Mustang Third Brake Light Installation Guide (05-07)

The below installation instructions work for the following products:

• 2005-2007 Mustang Smoked Third Brake Light

Here at American Muscle, we're all about DIY (do it yourself). Of course, there's nothing wrong with seeking out a little bit of tech help prior to taking on an installation on your own. Our Mustang installation guides will provide valuable instructions and hopefully answer any how-to questions that you may have along the way.

Removal of OEM third brake light and installation of the new third brake light took less than ten minutes. This is a fairly easy swap from factory to aftermarket.
Note: This Third Brake light is designed for the 2005, 2006, and 2007 Mustangs, it will not work correctly for the 2008+ Mustangs.

• None – all work was done by hand

1. Open the trunk and inside pull the trim panel straight off of the underside of the trunk lid. This panel is held into place at two points, one on each side. Merely pull one side away and then the other.


2. Locate the lighting assembly and disconnect the wiring harness from the bulb socket.


3. Remove the bulb and socket as one unit from the brake light bracket. Merely pull the unit out from the light fixture. See fig. below.



4. The OEM third brake light is held into place by four tabs, two on each side. Press the two tabs facing outward and push in slightly. The light will become loose. Push one side up and out and then the other. The light should come out easily. See fig. below.



5. Carefully position the LED brake light into place and gently snap it in to the trunk lid.


6. Connect the wiring harness to the LED brake light.


7. Test the connection to make sure the brake light is working properly before reattaching the trim panel.


8. Attach the trim panel in the same manner it was removed. Insert one side in and then the other and snap the panel into place.
