1981 Mustang Overview
The 1981 Mustang again saw very few changes from previous years in the third-generation Foxbody designs. The 1981 model did feature the "Traction-Lok" rear axle, which were specially designed to decrease wheel hop.This was a landmark year, however, as 1981 was the first time in Mustang history that the hatchback outsold the coupe. This trend continued all throughout the rest of the Foxbody generation, up to 1993. Back to top
