Description
Improve ET's and low end torque. Are you looking to get more low end grunt off the line and lower ET's at the same time? Then look no further than installing a set of steeper gears in your Pony. This Ford Racing Ring and Pinion Gears are perfect for street, road, or race use. Complete Kit. This Ford Racing Gear and Installation Kit comes complete with all the components needed to swap out your ring and pinion gear. It includes Ring gear, Pinion gear, 1 bottle of Friction Modifier, 2 bottles of 75w90 Gear Oil, gaskets, seals, shims, bearings and all the required hardware.

Legendary Ford Racing Quality. When you're adding performance parts to your Pony, you can't go wrong by installing parts from the folks that know it best. Ford Racing's legendary quality ensures years of hassle-free use.

Recommended Upgrade. Changing the rear axle gear ratio will throw off the calibration of your Mustangs speedometer, but a Diablosport InTune Tuner or a Bama SF3/X3 Power Flash Tuner is a quick and easy way to fix this issue.

Attention 2010 and newer Mustang Owners. Starting in 2010 Ford changed the inner rear gear pinion bearing in all 8.8" equipped Mustangs. Because of this you will require a new 8.8" rear gear pinion bearing (Ford part# 9L3Z-4630-A) for proper installation, please see drop down option above.

Application. This Ford Racing 3.73 Rear Gear and Installation Kit is designed for use with 8.8in solid rear axle equipped Mustangs, including the 2005-2014 GT, Bullitt, BOSS, Shelby GT500 and 2011-2014 V6 models. Application Note: Does

not fit 2013-2014 Boss or Shelby GT500 Mustangs with axle codes S-215-D and S-219-D.

Technical Note. Installation costs will vary, but a good rule of thumb is between $250 and $300. Be sure to work with a reliable shop that you trust for installations. You can also save money on your installation labor by having your Trac-Lok rebuilt at the same time as your gears are installed, see drop down option above.

3.73 gears and install kit 2011 V6

The gears deliver as advertised. The lag experienced in the low end by most new Mustangs is resolved. The 2.73 OEM gears just aren't enough to bring the ponies up to speed quickly. You will lose gas mileage.

    3.73 gears and install kit 2011 V6

    May 23, 2013

The gears deliver as advertised. The lag experienced in the low end by most new Mustangs is resolved. The 2.73 OEM gears just aren't enough to bring the ponies up to speed quickly. You will lose gas mileage. The install costs by a professional were a little pricier than the estimates I saw. But confidence comes at a premium. Bottom line, these gears will get you into the Mustangs sweet zone quicker and with authority.

    Big Bang for Buck

    May 14, 2013

Hands down the most noticeable improvement in performance to date on my vehicle. I have installed a short shifter, Eibach suspension and purchased the SCT with tunes, but nothing has woken up the machine nearly as much as the rear gearing has. It feels more like a sports car all the time...daily driving is exciting. Sixth gear is now useable and you can even accelerate in it. I think 4.10's would have been too much unless drag racing was all I did, but I think the 3.55's might have done a good job too, but no complaints with the 3.73's...very sporting. If you still have the stock 3.31 then your car is still asleep....put in a lower gear & wake it up...today :).

Should have installed these years ago!

    September 26, 2013

I bought my Mustang GT brand new back in early 2007. For over 6 years I drove it with the stock 3.31 gears and loved every minute of it. I always got great MPG on the freeway with them (~28-29) and had never driven a Mustang with shorter gearing so I was very satisfied with the performance. After having the FRPP 3.73 gears installed this week, I wish I would have taken the leap a long time ago! Of course acceleration is improved, but for me the most noticeable improvement was passing power. I daily drive my Mustang and it is so nice to not have to downshift from 5th to 4th when I want to pass on the highway. It now seems as though the car is always in its powerband and makes for a vastly improved driving experience. I debated for a long time between 3.73 and 4.10, and I'm glad I went with the 3.73s for my daily driver. I have not noticed a drop in mileage, but I did have SR underdrive pulleys installed at the same time as the gears, likely balancing out the loss from the gears. I had the gears installed at a reputable local shop for $300. If you're on the fence with these, stop thinking about it and do it!

    Smart Choice

    June 13, 2013

This set of gears really made a difference. The power out of the hole is really improved. I just wonder how the 4.10s would be. I think these are a good compromise for driving on the street.

    2009 GT

    November 22, 2013

My GT came with stock 3.31 gears. This is a big improvement over the stock gears. Would definitely recommend these gears to anyone. For a daily driver these gears are perfect.

    Better than stock

    November 03, 2013

We had the stock 2.73 gears in our Mustang for over 1.5 years while we did engine upgrades, but the car never would accelerate from a standstill to 3000 RPM's in decent time. Finally broke down and bought the 3.73 gears and it made a huge difference. The car takes off a lot easier now, doesn't feel like its struggling to get into the upper RPM range. As long as you can resist the urge to floor the gas, MPG drop should be minimal, even gain in city. Installation kit helped us get the best deal for installation costs since we had all the parts supplied. I would recommend an extra bottle of gear oil though.
