Hey guys. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and installing the Axial Smoked LED Third Brake Light for 1999 to 2004 Mustangs except for the Cobra. This is a smoked LED third brake light. So not only are you getting a smoked third brake light for a dark appearance but you're also upgrading to LED lighting. There are 12 LEDs in this third brake light. They're gonna be stronger, brighter, and last longer than your factory bulbs will. This is a direct plug-and-play replacement. So it's very easy to install. I'll call it a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. It cost about 40 bucks, and we'll go ahead and show you how to get it on your car now. For this install, we used a 3/8 drive impact gun, a deep 10 millimeter socket, and a short extension. All right, guys, to start the install you're gonna pop your trunk. Your third brake light obviously is right here. So if you pop the trunk, there are going to be two 10 millimeter nuts that are holding this light in place. We're gonna go ahead grab a deep 10 millimeter socket and undo those. And now we're gonna disconnect our electrical connection. From here, we'll be able to remove the taillight. So before we move the third brake light, we do need to remove the bulbs in the sockets from the third brake light. So, you'll just need to rotate these and then they'll come right out. Obviously, I'm just turning them to the left a little bit and then the socket and the bulb will pop right out. All right. And now we can pull the third brake light. All right. So we can pull our trunk down a little bit. We're just gonna push on the back of the third brake light and it'll come right out. All right, guys, so here we have our factory third brake light on the table compared to the axial third brake light. You can see, there is a pretty big difference in the appearance. First of all, the axial brake light has a smoked lens on it. So you get that dark look from this. You're also upgrading to LED lighting here with this. So you have 12 LEDs throughout this entire third brake light. They're gonna be brighter and stronger and last longer than the bulbs in your factory third brake light. They're rated for up to 100,000 hours of continuous use. So the other cool thing about this third brake light is that is completely plug and play. So if we spin it around here, you can see your LED bulbs are already in here. All you have to do is unplug the bulbs from your factory harness, plug them in right here, and then plug your overall harness back in. Bolt this thing down and you'll be good to go. So, before we get this installed in the car, we're gonna grab our factory harness and remove those stock bulbs. So all you have to do is pull each bulb out of the socket. So I'm just gonna grab them and they'll out easily. And now we can move to the car. All right. So at this point, we are going to set our third brake light in place and then we're actually gonna plug in our harness after the third brake light is in place. All right. We're gonna get the third brake light installed in the trunk. All right. So we're actually gonna get our 10 millimeter nuts in place right now too. These don't need to be too tight, but I will tighten them a little bit. All right. And from here, we can grab our harness. All right, guys, so now we're gonna go ahead and just plug in our LEDs into our socket. The way to do this is you're gonna wanna wiggle back and forth and then they'll plug right in. One thing to keep in mind though is that before we finish up our install, we will need to test to make sure that we have the polarity of these correct, meaning these can plug in this way or we can actually flip them 180 degrees and they can plug in this way. Your LED lights will only work one way though and there's no way to tell unless you just plug them in and test it. So once again, I'm just wiggling these back and forth to get them plugged in. If it doesn't feel like it wants to plug in, I'll rotate them 180 degrees and try to plug in the other way. There are four sockets that we're plugging into. The fifth socket is gonna keep the stock bulb because that's actually gonna be our trunk light. All right. So now we're gonna take our factory bulb. Get this up into place for our trunk light. We'll plug our factory harness back in and we'll go ahead and test the lights real quick just to make sure they're all working. So we just tested our third brake light, and luckily, we got all of the polarity correct. Once again, I'll remind you, make sure you test your third brake light. And if any of your LEDs aren't lighting up, all you have to do is disconnect from the socket, rotate 180 degrees, and then plug back in and it should work for you. That's gonna wrap up this review and install. Keep in mind that you guys can always check out this third brake light more online right here at americanmuscle.com.
