Description
Improves Horsepower. This BBK Cold Air Intake kit completely replaces the factory air box and restrictive paper filter element in your V6 Pony with a high flow filter assembly for a noticeable increase in horsepower and throttle response, while filtering out destructive power-robbing dust particles.

No Tune Required. Unlike other Cold Air Intakes on the market for the 2005-2010 V6 mustangs the BBK CAI does not require a computer re-tune. The engineers at BBK really did their homework to improve your pony's power using the factory tune.

Reusable Filter. BBK designed their high flow cotton air filter to be reusable, so there's no need to go out and buy a new filter every few thousand miles. Just clean the filter, re-oil it, save money, and go!

Black Wrinkle Coat Finish. The BBK CAI not only improves your pony's horsepower and acceleration, but improves your Mustang's under hood appearance with an aggressive baked on black wrinkle powder coat finish.

Easy Install. The BBK Cold Air Intake kit was designed to install easily with basic hand tools. No extra modifications or special tools are required for the installation. All parts and instructions are included.

Application. This BBK Cold Air Intake System is specifically designed to fit the 2005 to 2010 V6 Mustang with the 4.0L engine and does not require re-tuning the vehicles computer for operation.

Review & Install Video

Hey guys, Mike Wilson here with AmericanMuscle.com, standing here with the BBK cold air intake kit for the 2005-2009 Mustang V6. We’re going to combine this with a Bama race tune to see how much horse power and torque we get. But before we do that, we’re going to make a dyno run stock so we get some baseline horse power and torque numbers. Stock, our 2005 V6 automatic put down 172 horse power and 196 ft/lbs of torque. The BBK cold air intake kit is a great first modification that combines both power and style. By removing the factory restrictive airbox, and replacing with an open element reusable air filter, and a straight intake tube, you’ll notice increased horse power, torque, acceleration, and a throaty engine sound. And its bright, chrome finish, will definitely enhance the under-hood appearance of your Mustang. Now we’re going to install this cold air intake, which should take less than an hour, and can be done with simple hand tools you have at home. Along with the cold air intake, we also installed one of our 93 octane Bama race tunes. A custom tune from Bama performance adjusts engine parameters to maximize your performance through optimized air/fuel ratio, spark advance, enhanced throttle response, and for automatics, increased shift firmness and adjustable shift points. Now lets do another dyno run, see what kind of horse power and torque numbers we can get. We installed the BBK cold air intake kit along with a Bama performance tune and our car put down 192 horse power and 218 ft/lbs of torque, gaining as much as 23 horse power and 32 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. We installed the BBK cold air intake kit and a Bama performance tune all in under an hours time using simple hand tools, and gained as much as 23 horse power and 32 ft/lbs of torque.

Water Problems? I've heard that Mustangs (and less awesome cars "like it") with CAI's have a problem accidentally sucking water up (like when going through a puddle) is there a CAI that has a baffle or some sort of system to prevent water from getting into my beloved engine?

HntzGal

  • When I was looking at a CAI I was on the phone with AM talking to someone, and he was saying that the intake sits high enough in the v6s where it shouldn't be a problem so long as you're not running through lake Tahoe.

Does this model have removable inlet restrictor if I choose to use a tuner later? AM indicates that some CAI models have a removable inlet restrictor, but doesn't indicate which ones. I would like to Know my options before purchase.

Rich81

  • No this model doesn't have the restrictor it is a straight shot same size start to finish.

Under the hood cleaning Can i Leave the intake filter on when i clean under the engine or would i have to take it off. i usually go to the car wash and spray down the engine with water. will the water mess up the filter?

Druml1n3

  • It's always a good idea to remove the filter or wrap it with a plastic bag use a couple of elastics to hold it in place to keep it dry. I would suggest washing your engine when it's cold to avoid any cracking due to the high heat. Also try to avoid any electronics under the such as ECU, and alternator when using a high pressure washer.

intake is the first way to go

I was searching for the right intake and this one just gave me what I was lookin for it looked great under the hood and it fit perfectly, it gave more power to my little pony because of the cold in take I got better gas milage and a better response and to make it better with the right tools it took me under 10 minutes to install and I didn't have to do a toon up like most of the others require one It was a little money to spend but it was worth it if you want to get more power and better gas a cold airintake by bbk is the first step you want to take

    Freakin` Awesome!

This part opens up the car so much and makes it so much easier to accelerate. Every mustang should have one of these. I have an automatic trans so its made a world of a difference on my stang. The black looks way better than the crome in my opinion also. Instillation is easy peasy.

    Great Upgrade

I could tell a definite horsepower and torque increase as soon as I drove it. Install took about 1 hour as I took my time. AM website had some great pictures to help make sure everything was in right. Every V6 Stang needs one of these.

Cold Air is a Breath of Fresh Air

Installation is super easy for this part, the only major difficulty was when I found the screws you reuse on the Mass Air Sensor housing are two long and require the addition of washers to make them snug down properly. Am wondering if my stock screws (requiring T20 torx) are longer on my model than others, I can't believe all there CAI's shipped with holes two short to accept the entire length of the screw. A washer should not be required. Anyway, that plus a minor nit with that rubber edging they provide are the only thing that keeps this from being a 5 Star rating.

Good, but will throw a code.

I love this intake, I'm not sure if its giving me much of a performance gain but its definitely given my stang better responsiveness. The sucking sound isn't too bad either. My one gripe is that this intake will throw a lean code. I did an idle re-learn and it went away but it came back when I was stuck in traffic for 2 hours the other night. Gunna try to do another idle re-learn and repeat until I get a tuner.

    Fantastic CAI

I bought this CAI about 6 months ago, I thought it was great and it was BUT then I tuned my car with a Bama tuner and it is even more useful now! Without the tune I only had about 5 more horses but with the tune you will gain 20+ horses. Either way tune or not this is a great mod! Easy install! No problems! Perfect first mod too!

    Quick Improvement

The intake was very straight forward to install only took me half an hour and the fitment was perfect everything fit where it should. As soon as I turned the car on I instantly noticed the difference and of course that great whistle sound! Definitely noticed a throttle response and increase in mpg. Great price and quick shipping and easy upgrade any mustang owner should have one!

YES it will fit the 2010 4.0 V6

As being the odd-ball, one year only 2010 4.0 V6 I can confirm that this will indeed fit. I called and spoke to a salesperson who did "suggest" that it may not fit, but her listing did indeed say 05-10. I received the box of goodies I ordered the next day. Listed on the BBK packaging it conflicts what I was told as being only up to 2009. I installed it that afternoon after work, being careful not to damage anything just in case I needed to return it. After about 45 minutes I had the CAI installed with out a hitch. My only suggestion would be to ditch the old style hose clamps and replace them with T bolts. I am extremely happy with my purchase and the service I was given by AM.
