More Horsepower And Torque. Replace that restrictive factory intake and throttle body with a BBK Performance Cold Air Intake and Throttle Body Combo Kit from AmericanMuscle for more horsepower and torque. This BBK combo kit will greatly improve your engines incoming airflow path to produce more useable power and to increase throttle response.

No Tune Required. Unlike other Throttle Body and Cold Air Intake Combos on the market today for the Ford Mustang this BBK Combo Kit does not require a computer re-tune. The engineers at BBK Performance really did their homework to improve your Pony's power using the factory tune.

78MM Bore. Your GT's stock throttle body is a restrictive 56mm, choking off airflow and keeping your Mustang from giving you everything it has. But the BBK Performance throttle body features a generous, free flowing 78mm single bore design for significantly more air to feed the fire under your hood.

Reusable Filter. BBK designed their Cold Air Intakes with a reusable high flow cotton air filter. So no there is no need to go out and buy a new filter every few thousand miles. Just clean the filter, re-oil it, save money, and go!

Easy Bolt-On Installation. This BBK Intake Combo Kit is designed to be a straight forward install with just basic hand tools. No extra modifications or special tools are required for a simple 2 hour installation.

CARB Certified. Best of all, the BBK Mustang Cold Air Intake in the kit is 50-state smog legal under Carb EO# D-245-14. The BBK 78mm Throttle Body is not CARB Certified.

Application. This BBK Performance 78mm Throttle Body and Cold Air Intake Combo Kit is specifically designed to fit the 1996 to 2004 GT Mustangs equipped with the SOHC 4.6L V8 engine.

Please Note. A 78mm throttle body works great on a heavily modified or supercharged GT mustang, because stock or mildly modified GT's do not flow air enough to benefit from the larger Throttle Body.

Air Intake Velocity So my exhaust is basically wide open with o/r x-pipes, glass packs, no catalytics for now and only thing still stock is the headers. I want to get these two items but have heard that you need to be careful opening up the intake and exhaust too much becasue of velocity of the air coming in and it actually loses power. Is that something to actually worry about here or will I still see improvements? Thanks a lot!

  • I had the same setup with O/R x pipe and borla catback and stock headers with this bbk 78mm tb/plenum and CAI and with a proper tune I saw improvements!!

How much more horsepower does it make?

  • The BBK CAI and 78mm Throttle Body Combo (96-04 GT) does not need a tune and depending on the other modifications that you have in your Mustang, this combo could gain you between 5-7HP.

I currently installed this and my throttle body cable does not go in the whole on the throttle body combo any ideas ? has this happened to anyone else and how did they fix it ?

  • I am sorry to hear about that! Why don't you send us some pictures to our support email and we may be able to help troubleshoot this with you! I will put the link to our contact info below.

If I buy this kit for a 2002 mustang stock gt will it gain horsepower?? Also is it good to buy this kit and then tune car up? If so how much horsepower will it get

  • This kit will gain horsepower when installed into a completely stock vehicle. The horsepower gain is always going to be a relative number with different variables which will depend on the climate you live in, octane of gas, a tune, and other various things. Since I had previously mentioned a tune, a tune will maximize the power that you can achieve. Again, that is also a relative number as there are many various tunes you can choose from.

my question is will the 78MM be bad for my car? i noticed in the description it says please note that the 78 MM throttle body is for supercharged or heavily modded stangs.. on my 02 GT with 70k miles only performance mods i have are this same BBK kit as well as bbk underdrive pulleys currently installed, soon i will add more performance parts but for now is it bad on my car having the 78MM?? soon i will look to add a full exhaust system (headers, midpipe, catback) also 4.10 gears w/bama tuner combo kit.. thanks.

  • I installed a 78mm on my 2004 mustang gt several months ago. Any noticeable performance improvement? Yes, noticeably quicker throttle response and much louder huffing sound of air coming in. Any noticeable problems or damage or lowered mpg or power? Nope, none. Would i do it again? If someone up and stole my bbk 78mm plenum would i replace it? Definitely yes! That loud huffing sound when i trounce down on the pedal is priceless.

    Easy to install, some issues

For the most part, both of these where easy to install. Car with all hardware you needed with gaskets. The cold air intake was kinda finicky to get fitted and the hose they supply for the pcv is to small so you have to really force the plastic pipe in or sorce your own hose. First time I started and drove the car I noticed an immediate difference in throttle response. The only problem I have now is that when you step on the throttle the intake whistles. I went to online forms and bbk's official customer service and it seems that the whistle from the intake happens with alot of there products and I'm not the first person thats had an issue. I guess bbk's answer is to send it back...or take a dremel and smooth out some edges inside the throttle body.. I dont know about you but when I spend almost 500 bucks on a product I shouldn't have to modify or try and deal with returning a product that I bought from a company other than bbk.

    Increase Throttle Response

It really brought the mustang to life! You can tell instantly that it improves the throttle response and can feel the power difference. Only took me an hour or so to install with minor mechanical skills. Worth the 400$ and you won't regret it!

    Hits and Misses

I should start off by saying all in all this is a great product and I'd buy it again. With that said, there are a few thing I think could be improved on. First would be the instructions, there are essentially no images. So with limited mechanical knowledge, it can be difficult to understand all of the steps. Luckily there are some great supplementary resources here on AM and on YouTube. Second would be the quality of some of the parts, the PCV tip you attach to the throttle body/plenum for example. The stock part is a metal fitting while the replacement from BBK is plastic. Lets just say after having to use a pair of pliers to get it snugly attached, it wont be coming back out. Also the small bit of hose that connects the new intake tube to the PCV pipe seems to be just a bit to small. Had a very difficult time trying to get the PCV pipe into the hose adapter. Time will tell on the quality of the filter vs a KandN. That is another hassle, having to go up through the wheel well to attach/clean the filter since it doesn't fit through the hole in the engine bay. On the positive side, all of the above are now just a good story to tell while we admire the sight of it under the hood, the sound, and the increased performance.

    You need a tune.

It says "with the new technology you will not need a tune for the kit" that is a lie I put it on my 2001 Ford Mustang gt and when I'd floor my mustang it'd rev to 2500 rpms and sit there a tune is needed for this lit from my understanding. I also may be wrong
