Easy to install with the 3-piece design. Sound is great combined with the Borla Stinger S-type exhaust!

Great sound. Went around the block on Easter Sunday and it snapped some necks. If you have a 5-speed BBK is the way to go. Texas Motor Speedway here I come.

Ask a Question

Will this fit slp long tube headers if i got a automatic transmission?

StangWang78

  • This x-pipe will only bolt up to stock manifolds or shorty headers. To install Long Tube headers, they would require the use of a shorty style mid-pipe to compensate for the longer length of the headers.

Would it be an easy swap from the BBK catted X-pipe? I have the BBK catted x-pipe on my 03 mach 1. Would swapping the two be fairly easy? Do the fit any different?

Crisp

  • It should be a fairly easy switch as they both fit in the same location, only difference is that this off-road version doesn't have the cats. Hope this helps!

Question Resolved

Will this X pipe bolt up to any catback system without modifications? I have borla stingers currently and want to know if it would fit this catback or others?

Mach1Nick

  • It should. This, and most others, are designed to replace the stock mid-pipe, regardless of after cat exhaust.

so im getting the slp loudmouth 1 will these sound good cuz i dont want it to sound like my car is choking to sound good lol

domenic

  • I had the BBK Pro-Chamber H-Pipe with the SLP Loudmouth 1 catback exhaust with shotgun resonators and it sounded wicked! The fitment and look was excellent! It will definitely be very loud with the X-Pipe, maybe a little raspy and pop quite a bit during engine braking. However, I love disturbing the peace so that setup was right up my alley!!

i have an 04 gt i ordered the mil eliminator. do i need the o2 extensions too?

hurleystang

  • Yes, the driver's side O2 sensor will be moved back about a foot so even with the MIL eliminator you will be short. Not too bad though, the extensions (you have to buy two) are about $20 and snap right in. Be sure to have a zip tie handy as there is some slack and the wire will touch the exhaust if left to hang. There are plenty of spots to zip tie. Mines all hooked up and so far no check engine light.

    Nice system!

Easy enough to install. Had to modify flange at left manifold to prevent a slight leak but otherwise fit perfectly. Sounds great! Make sure to get extensions or MIL eleminators for rear O2 sensors also, luckily I already had a pair.

    Great upgrade

About an hour to install, need o2 extensions, and either eliminators or tuner to turn off the o2 sensors. Much louder then the stock h pipe and has an angry growl whenever you step on it.

    This thing scares people

My current setup is stock headers, The off-road X, and SLP 1 cat-back. This thing honestly sounds vicious and angry. The downshifts and pops that come from this are insane. Anything over 2000 RPM makes the car sound like it's screaming. Definitely would recommend, just be prepared to never be able to sneak around with this in.

    Too loud

I did not buy this pipe from AM (disclaimer). I have a borla atak cat back that this pipe leads into... Sounds amazing idling. Give it any gas and you sound like a fartbox Honda on steroids.

you want loud? you got it!

bought this to swap out my catted pypes x pipe after the cats failed. what a difference, i am running the pipes violator catback, and with this X it sounds great. fitment was spot on and actually fits up closer to the body than the pypes unit. sound at idle and cruise is minimal, drone almost non existent, but hammer on it and be prepared to turn heads, and wake neighbors.

    Disaster

Absolutely terrible. Do not buy this product unless you are looking for a big headache. I thought this would be a one day job because the description says it will bolt right up to the stock manifold, wrong. This project has turned into a 3 week process as I can only work on it on weekends. Reason why you shouldn’t buy this number 1, the driver side flange that comes on this BBK x pipe does NOT seal. Poor design is the problem here, the flange literally tightens down before the pipe does, which leaves the pipe not sealed and loose. To fix this problem I had to buy a separate flange that lined up with the manifold studs. Then cut it and weld it around the BBK x pipe so that it would do what a flange is supposed to do, seal the pipe. My next problem was with the connection between the x pipe and the mufflers. The ends of the x pipe were almost exactly the same as my mufflers. To get them to seal properly I had to angle the pipe upwards which didn’t allow me to tighten down the manifold ends correctly. This created a mismatch between the manifold portion and the muffler portion of the x pipe and put a ton of stress on the clamp that BBK provides. I didn’t feel comfortable leaving the pipe the way it was because I just couldn’t get enough meat on both ends of the clamp to tighten it down completely and seal up the huge leak it was causing. So I went to a muffler shop and had them weld the clamp to both ends of the x pipe. Finally once I got the pipe on and I started it up ready to hear that awesome sound all x pipes should make, let’s just say it was very disappointing. Yes, it was louder and the tone it make in idle is ok. However, after taking out for a spin I quickly changed my mind. The x pipe makes a very awful sound when shifting. Basically, when decelerating from 3 or higher rpms it sounds bad. Poor design, poor sound, and way too much time involved is why I gave this x pipe the review I did. Do Not Buy.

Very sorry to hear you had such difficulty installing this mid-pipe. I'm forwarding your feedback over to BBK to ensure they're aware of these issues. Give us a call if you'd like to try another x-pipe that should fit much better!

    Like it but...

Pretty straightforward installation however the driver side did not line up and it took some rigging but I got it. Sounds great and man at the top end my car really pulls! One complaint, it hangs to low for my taste... I scrape everywhere on my SR Springs. Anyone know how to fix this?

    X-Pipe freed up some ponies.

Great addition to increase flow in the exhaust system. I have it hooked to a Flow Master exhaust and together with the BBK Throttle Body and CAI / Bama Tuner it was a good bang for my buck purchase.

This is the first we've heard of these having a problem lining up. If you are still having difficulty, I'd suggest taking it to a shop to see if they can line them up properly. If they can't and the x-pipe is defective, we will gladly ship you out a replacement!

    Fantastic, but..

The sound, fantastic, Power Gain, very noticable. It's music to my ears. But, it clearly says FACTORY O2 SENSOR PLACEMENT, on the description. And it's not, at least not for my 04 GT, the 2 plugs on the downpipes fit fine, but i'm missing 1 foot of wire on the passenger side, and 2 1/2-3 on the drivers side. If you're planning on buying this, then buy some o2 extensions too. I'm going to sauder some copper wire on and make it work. Overall, worth it, really really really worth it.

    Great

Really easy to install. BBK always makes great products. It really opens up the car with my bbk cai, 78mm tb, roush side exit pipes and a bama custom tube. This is what mustang should sound like. Had to get new o2 sensours for the frount, the rear ones are turned off with the tune so no need for mil eliminators.
