Was quite undecided on either chrome or black considering i have a blacked out 05 GT, but black pins looks sleek and aggressive on black, definitely would recommend to another black mustang.

Hey, Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, here with a way to add some of that aggressive Shelby styling to the front end of your late model Mustang, without having to drill into or permanently modify your ride. I’m referring to this hood pin appearance kit from Modern Billet™, available for all 94 and newer Mustangs. Modern Billet™ is a company that specializes in designing and producing a wide variety of interior and exterior styling accessories for your Mustang using nothing but 100% quality Billet aluminum. I want to address the obvious thing here, these are not functional hood pins, I know this is going to bother some people but the fact is, this an easy and relatively inexpensive way to get the exact same look, without having to drill into your hood. As for the kit itself, you can see it is actually pretty simple, it does include the baseplate with simulated hardware and pin, attached to this stainless steel lanyard which is about a foot or a foot and a half or so in length. As for these baseplate options you do have a couple of different choices, we have a bright chrome option installed on our 98 GT behind me, or also a semi gloss black powder coat. Again, one of the biggest selling points if you will with this kit is that there’s absolutely no need to drill, instead the baseplates attach to the hood using the preinstalled 3M tape on the back, while the other end of the lanyard usually installs in a hole on the back side of the hood around the hood liner area. Because of this the install couldn’t be any easier, simply clean the area first using the supplied alcohol prep pad, measure exactly where you want that base plate to go, remove the protective backing on the 3M tape, and adhere to your ride carefully. Because this is pretty easy, we’re going to call it 15 minutes from start to finish. So if you want to give your Mustang a taste of that iconic GT500 styling, without drilling into your hood, then you have to check out one of these hood pin appearance kits available in chrome or black, right here at AmericanMuscle.com

Ask a Question

What material are the leads made of? I'd like to use this kit to determine if I like the look of hood pins before installing a functional kit. What material are the leads made of? Do they wear through the clear coat/paint after a while? Trying to determine if I need to order a clear bra to protect my new paint.

Bryce

  • The lanyards and pins are made of durable stainless steel and they shouldn't wear through your car's clear coat or paint!

Is this a permanent mod? If at some point I want to take these off (which I doubt), are these easy to get off or are they pretty much not removable. Just curious. Thanks!

SeaLight

  • They are removable. It is just an appearance modification. They are not functional.

Removal? How difficult is it to remove the hood pins? The 3M material doesn't harm the pain or anything, right?

TDoggyDog

  • The 3-m tape will not harm the finish and the pins are relative easy to remove.

I bought the appearance kit one year ago and by October the cables had rusted out and the protective layer cracked. I was disappointed till I decided to try and get a new set from AM. Customer service was great and a new set was shipped. I think the durability has changed and this new set looks much nicer. Thanks AM.

    Black Pins Review

I ordered these pins about a week ago and installed them in under 15 minutes after some very careful measuring. The service was very good and the pins look highly satisfactory and realistic.

Review from Modern Billet Black Hood Pin Appearance Kit (79-14 All)

    Hold like crazy

After looking at every picture on reviews where placement was concerned, laid these on the hood until I liked what I saw. I must've measured every which way possible until I was convinced I had them centered properly. Then, use blue painters tape as a guideline to do two sides of the pins. When you peel off the back of the 3M tape, make sure you know right where it's going. It's on there forever once it makes contact. Keep a pin into the mounting bracket so that the hole is lined up where you want it. (don't eyeball it in other words) I wanted mine going east to west, but that's just personal taste. Then, (and this took the longest in installation) I wanted to mount the cables under the hood, so used two self starting screws with hex head and screwed them into the top of the radiator cover. Trick here is getting the cables the same length, and having the right amount visible wrapping around the hood. This is tricky because you have to close the hood to see where you're at. I've seen some cables from hood pins on cars that was uneven, or twisted up in the wrong way and it looks bad. Maybe I'm just anal, but if you take your time these things look great and add that muscle touch, even though they're just cosmetic. My '69 Mach had the real deal, and this is as close as you can get without drilling real holes in your hood. I love 'em.

Great Add-on! Simple, fast, and easy

This hood pin appearance kit was a breeze to install. I used the bolts from my aftermarket grill to secure the wire and it looks great! It was a pain to make sure they're even on both sides but it didn't take that long. Good quality and the wires were coated with plastic so they won't scratch your hood over time. Great deal!

Black Hood Pin Appearance Kit (05-13 All)

Looks great but only the part with the stickers fit. I am unable to attach the pins under the hood, the loops that are supposed to go over the bolts are too small.

Review from Modern Billet Black Hood Pin Appearance Kit (94-04 All)

Very cool and easy appearance mod!

I installed this set on my GT because I love the look of the old muscle cars with the pins and lanyards. This set looks just like the ones from the old days! The instructions tell you to make sure the plates are placed exactly the same on both sides as far as how the pins go in but I rotated mine a bit to give it a more "purpose built" look, just like the old days! Awesome looking mod for sure.
