Description
Full Ratchet Action. The stock factory shifter is fine for daily driving, but it has some serious drawbacks when it comes to street/strip performance. The Mustang B&M Hammer Ratchet Shifter has a full ratchet action mechanism for solid positive shifts, so there is no fear of hanging up between gears or missing a gear all together.

Reverse Lockout. To prevent you from accidentally shifting into reverse while your banging through the gears the B&M Ratchet Shifter features a reverse lockout mechanism. To shift into neutral, reverse or park positions, just lift the trigger and ratchet the shifter forward for each position.

Direct Fit Installation. The B&M Hammer Console Ratchet Shifter was designed to fit the 1987-1993 Mustang's center console with no modifications required to the factory AOD transmission. And to further simplify the installation this ratchet shifter includes the neutral safety switch, backup light switch, lighted gear indicator, leather shift boot and polished aluminum T-Handle.

Application. This B&M Hammer Console Ratchet Shifter is designed to fit the 1987 to 1993 GT and LX 5.0 Mustang's equipped with an AOD Automatic Transmission and meets NHRA and IHRA requirements.

Second gear? Hi, so will this shifter let me hang in 2nd gear a long as I want on a '91 Mustang without doing the 1-D-1 shufffle? If this shifter actually gives me my 2nd gear back on my AOD that would be pretty amazing!? Thanks!

  • Unfortunately for the AOD guys you still have to do the 1-D-1 Shuffle. However, this shifter makes it much easier.

B&M Shifter I have been looking at these shifters for some time, my question is do they work just like the stock shifter, meaning do you just pull it down to drive or do you have to racket it to get into drive? Then if you want to race your stang you can start out in low by racketing it down? Then racket up for 2nd & 3th and then drive? Do you still have to drop it back down after shifting into second to keep it in second? Thanks, MRGH

    Hammer Shifter from B and M

    This shifter can take a little getting used to and I suggest having a shop put it in to get the cable linkage right , but overall I enjoy this product , Real easy shifting on freeway from drive to overdrive comfortable fit in hand, great styling. Depending on the temp. outside can get really hot or freezing cold but that's of no concern still looks and works great sits back so you can access your CD player in your 5.0. Great product. Have received many compliments on its looks!!!!!!! Especially good sitting in a transmission with a shift kit!!!!

    Great product

    This was a replacement for my first B&M Hammer Console Shifter which lasted 10 years of daily driving and fairly regular track time before giving up the ghost. The original was heavily abused on a regular basis with the "AOD Shuffle" before I modded the valvebody. I expect this one to last as long, if not longer. It is a straightforward and fairly easy install. It took us a couple of hours on a Friday evening to remove the old and install the new one. B&M provides good instructions on the installation and the the all the parts needed are in the package. I would recommend this for anyone needing a good shifter in a street/strip machine.

    Just looks nice

    This does nothing your stock shifter can't do. It just makes the "aod" shuffle a little easier. Indicator setup is very poor had to hook my indicator light to stay on all the time cause you can't see without. I don't know why b&m hasn't changed gear indicator setup yet. Also indicator light wire was missing negative cable had to buy from b&m for 20$

    Great Action, Terrible Indicator Design

    The operation of the shifter works great. The indicator setup is a very weak design and needs a lot of tweaking to make the indicator work correctly (shifter indicator bracket drags on the cover and you must add grease to the indicator slides as the action is rough). Could definitely benefit from a redesign by B&M. Shifter arrived timely. Thanks American Muscle for the quick delivery.

    It's Hammer Time!

    This B&M HAmmer shifter fixes one of the few problems with the automatic trans 5.0. The shifter is so skinny and plain looking and the handle has become worn and faded from years of handling. The B&M looks beefy and changes the whole appearance of the console. It also makes driving an automatic fun with the ratchet function. I had a shop install it because it looked beyond my level of installation skills. Well worth it in my opinion. Love it!

    A must if you intend to race or shift on your own

    Overall im very satisfied but there were a few issues along the way such as the clips on the bezel they are hard to secure and I had to use crazy glue to hold them in place on the bezel otherwise they tended to pop off when installing the bezel. After the install was complete it is a little tricky to adjust the TV cable I viewed several You tube videos for some help and was able to attain a good adjustment after a few tries. The final product installed does look nice and really has a factory look to it. As for shifting its not like a turbo350 so it does take a little getting used to but what a difference compared to the stock shifter, I now have total control of the shifts and dont have to worry about messing up and upshift. Final opinion is a must have and take your time and the install will be easy and really looks great to.

    on the fence

    After a couple of weeks, the reverse lock-out only failed once. the shift cable only came off once, (same time). It was easy to install, the indicator LED is rubbing in the shift indicator, causing a scratch all the way up the indicator(looks like i bought it used). did I mention that its real shiny. I DO like the way it looks on the console, which fits perfectly..looks like it belongs there..
