Work with Pypes Pipe Bomb? I have a Pypes cut and clamp x pipe and the pypes pipe bomb. I know the x pipe will be taken off. But will the Pypes pipe bomb still get enough airflow ? or will it just add to the exhaust note ? Or what?

  • I also have pype bombs and almost all the exhaust comes out the back, my side pipes don't even get very hot. In my opinion these side pipes are pointless with pype bombs. I'm going to switch back to stock exhaust to get more back pressure and force more air and noise out the sides. did gain a little horse power with the x pipe and side pipes though, I can feel it in the seat. no dyno numbers sorry.

Will this work with any lt headers, or only shorties

  • American Muscle recommend shorties but if you have the mechanical know how you can make long tube headers work with these. I did in the car sounds 10 times louder.

First off I have a 2010 mustang with frpp manifold and cams. I have a completely stock exhaust and this is the perfect additions. I have a manual tranny and that prevents any exhaust drone. Best way to picture this exhaust is stand by your exhaust now and if you want that noise on the side of you then get this. It is not louder than my stock mufflers nor is it quiter. It is literally perfect. When you get on the gas fully it blends in with the rear exhaust to awesomeness. It will make your car sound like a beast and turn heads. I did have issues with the install, I needed to torch my exhaust to stretch the ends to make it fit on my pipes. If I did not run into this issue it would have been done in three hours tops. (Because my car is a 2010 I did not need to drill holes for the bolts). It fits perfect and if you want to hear your exhaust note without having to get extremely loud out of the back with mufflers then buy this. And if it gets to loud you can always put the restrictor plates on but with windows up and music on low and you can't hear the side exhaust anyways. Also thanks Andy for getting the missing parts and restrictor plates here in a hurry AM IS THE BEST

good sound, but pain to install

    November 25, 2012

First of all the experience of driving with these pipes on is incredible. The angry rumble sits right next to your ear when you sit at idle. Step on the gas and at around 2300 rpm it gives you a nice bubbly note that follows you everywhere. step on the gas even harder and she turns into an angry snarling beast. You'll definitely be turning heads. The fit however is not so good. Ford Racing did a good job of engineering these pipes to work with the s197 but it's not perfect. What was supposed to be a 2 hour install ended up being 5 hours of trial and error. When the pipes come in the box they will almost assuredly be tightened together the wrong way. You should test fit all the angles of the pipes before proceeding with cutting. You will have to cut your pipes and you will have to drill into the side rails of the frame, because the attachment to the side of the car will never line up perfectly. However, do a good job with it and you can have that side pipe placed so perfectly that you'll never see it there unless you get on your knees and look for it. I am running my car with stock cats and Pype bombs axle back. In my opinion running the side exhaust with pype bombs or any other muffler-delete is pointless because the noise and drone coming out the back almost completely mutes whatever is coming out the sides. And because the exhaust out the back is so free flow almost no gases or noise come out the side. Because I've been driving with these for two weeks now I've tuned my ears to hear what is coming out the side. I may switch back to stock mufflers to hear more. Also mine didn't come with the restrictive plates for a quieter sound, but why would you need them? Louder is better!

Takes some work but worth it

    March 21, 2014

I've never worked on an exhaust so I wasn't sure what to expect. Some weld splatter on the side pipes and the welds were a little harsh looking. Took time to get the clamps on and adjusted. Took a few times to get it into the chassis. Other hints... you'll have to remove the rubber flaps in front of the tank and be patient with the blind nut. That thing drove me nuts. Use a reciprocating saw and you'll cut your time in half. Not loud at all unless driving next to a barrier or wall. Yes, it can be tuned to be quieter, but I'm old and it's not too loud at all. Overall, a great kit. I'm glad I installed it.

This one goes to 11....Like going from Mono to Surround

    October 03, 2013

Already had a FRPP X-pipe, so this install wasn't as long if you were to have to cut the factory H-pipe out. Had some issues with the kit, but that was installer error. The sound on this kit is not obnoxious at all but it adds some volume and a beefier/ballsier tone at idle and mild/mid accelleration. Wide Open it sounds down right evil :) This is paired with Borla S-Type axle backs on my 05 GT and they compliment each other really well, but I think with the Borla's being louder than stock, you lose a little of the tone/effect that you would have with only the quads in a stock configuration. Having these on my 05 GT, I really hope FRPP continues to add these to their lineup for future Mustangs (15+). Would do it again in a heartbeat.

    maybe, maybe not

    April 01, 2013

This took 8 hours to install and I have all the conveniences of any shop. The fit took the longest and even had to swap out sides. It didn't matter which scenario I went with, the pipes will not come out of the side and even if they would have, nowhere near a mounting hole. Once I was able to get them into the pipes below the cats, they went right in to the pipes coming out of the back. It did push the rear tips out an inch and a half which kinda looks pretty good actually. I will have to have a couple pipes made so they can come out of the side. I never received some of the bolts or both of the oval spacers. It does sound good though

It was fairly simple to install. Very tight though and need minor adjustments. I think it made the exhaust note slightly louder. The big difference is its like going from stereo to surround sound. It defiantly spreads out the sound much better. I recommend this I just think ford could have done a better job with the fit.
