Review & Install Video

Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m checking out MGP’s front and rear caliper covers, fitting all 2005 and newer Mustangs. So here’s the deal, an aftermarket big brake kit is not exactly cheap, and painting your factory calipers can sometimes not give you the results you’re looking for. These covers from MGP are a great way to cover up those ugly factory calipers, while adding a little customization and helping to reduce the brake dust on your wheels. The covers are offered in a red or a black powder coat and with a number of different logo options. We have a couple here on the table including the red GT logo, the complete black Cobra setup, the red running Pony logo, and the black 5.0 logo, just to name a few. Taking a closer look at the calipers you’ll first notice a very durable T6 aluminum construction, along with that powder coated red or black finish. In addition we have the officially licensed logo right in the center, along with some simulated hardware for a more realistic look. The installation really isn’t all that bad and should take you about an hour from start to finish. Of course you will need to remove your wheels just to gain access to the calipers so make sure you have your jack handy. In addition you’re going to want to make sure 3/8” wrench just to tighten up the hardware on the covers themselves, but other than that everything is completely straightforward. So if you’re tired of looking at those rusty factory calipers and you don’t feel like forking out big dough for an aftermarket big brake kit, you’ll want to look into MGP’s caliper covers available right here at AmericanMuscle.com

Mustang Styling. This set of four Red MGP Caliper Covers are a great way to set off your new rims and they feature modern "Mustang" lettering on the front two covers and the iconic Tri-Bar Pony logo on the rear two. These Officially Licensed MGP Caliper Covers will give any S197 Mustang a big brake race ready look that will turn heads.

Reduces Brake Dust. These Caliper Covers not only look fantastic, but they also act as a protective dust shield to help keep your rims looking cleaner longer.

Quality Construction. MGP makes their Caliper covers from light weight 6061-T6 Aerospace Aluminum that is formed to the caliper for a perfect fit. The covers are then powder coated for a long lasting high gloss look. The installation brackets are TIG welded in place for extra security.

Easy No Mess Install. Painting your calipers can be messy and time consuming, but the MGP Caliper Covers simply install over your stock calipers and are held in place with the supplied clip and bolt. For a no muss, no fuss install.

Application. Designed to fit over stock brakes, this set of four MGP caliper covers include all the required hardware needed for installation on a 2005 to 2010 and newer V6 or GT Mustang.

Technical Note. A minimum of 1/8 of an inch clearance between the wheel and the brake caliper is required for proper fitment. We have found that the MGP caliper covers will require the use of a small 1/4" spacer to provide proper clearance with our aftermarket Bullitt wheels, see drop down option above

I have a 2006 v6 with 2012 gt wheels, will I need the spacers for both front and back,18 in wheels

Bigcat

  • The MGP Red Caliper Covers w/ Pony Tri-Bar Logo should work, however, since the factory off set for the 2012 GT wheels have a higher positive offset, it may require a spacer for sufficient clearance to clear the caliper covers and the back of the wheel spokes.

How do you determine if the caliper covers will fit? I read about rim size and some mention of spacers. Have 2007 V-6 convertible with 18" GT rims. Will they fit as is or do I need spacers and stuff?

BABSMustang

  • The off set has to be right if the wheels are 18 or even 20 inch really don't make any different if you have factory rims on your car than your good.

    Didn't fit on the back

The front covers went on extremely easy and fit properly. After installing the covers on the rear calipers, the clips scraped against the rotors when I braked. I spent quite a bit of time adjusting the shape of the clips to avoid the scraping, but had no luck making them fit. They do look amazing on the front, though.

    Caliper covers on 2008 GT-CS

Not at all pleased that they will not fit my California Special without wheel spacers. Almost, but not quite! I ordered hub-centric spacers because of the negative reviews of the 'universal' spacers. If you are not willing to do a little footwork and order more parts, do not buy. I will tell you more after a bit of time here in the winter weather of Denver's roads.

    Need Spacers

The covers look fantastic on the car, the only problem I had was the lack of spacers. Spacers ARE required for 2008 V6 Pony Package (17" wheels). It does not state this in the description so by the time I realized it the covers were scrapped.

    After market rims be careful.

Good buy and like the look. A bit of warning for those of you with after market rims. Apply very carefully and and take your time. I have 20" Neeper rims and I had to adjust the caliper covers many times before I got it just right. Make sure you don't tighten the screws too much or it will bring the corners of the cover opposite the screw out too far, and it will rub on the rim. Although the covers look good, I would like to see caliper covers w/o the faux screws.

    Good idea, but...

I loved the concept of Caliper Covers; they make the Mustang look great, and they can prevent brake dust from impacting the wheels. All good. Unfortunately, the MGP Caliper Covers fall short of the mark. Installation time is way more than the 1 hour suggested, primarily because of fit and finish. The covers just don't seem to go on smoothly; the clips are not secure; and they are impossible to maneuver into a point where they don't interfere with the wheels. I did finally install them, but not without one of the caliper covers losing an essential screw. I think the covers could go through some modification so that installation is easier.

Installed Caliper Covers in a snap!

I was able to install all four of these caliper covers in less then an hour, I have Roush Wheels and had no problem installing them with the wheels on. They bolt on securely, I have no issues with clearance, and I am very confident they will stay where I put them. The appearence change is awsome! I love them and Highly recomend these caliper covers! Minor install problems - great finished look though.

I have an 05 GT with the standard GT 17 x 9 rims. The rear covers went on easy and had plenty of clearence. The fronts required two additional steps to install properly with my rims. 1) The front rims needed spacers. These were supplied and shipped free to me no charge as soon as I made American Muscle aware of my problem. 2) Once I had the spacers on I still had a problem with the inside stick on weights for tire balance. I had to have these removed and go with regular front lip mounted weights for tire balance to clear the covers. Not a major deal but not quite the simple bolt on as advertised. The finished product looks absolutely beautiful though.
