How To Install a Carbon Fiber Decklid Panel - Emblem on Your 2010-2012 Mustang

Installation Time

30 minutes

Tools Required
  • Painters Tape
  • Fishing Line
  • Plastic or Wood Wedge
  • Flathead Screwdriver
  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • Lint-Free Cloth
  • RTV Adhesive

Time Required: 1 hour install & 12 hour dry time

Removal Procedure:

1. Tape off the area surrounding the rear emblem with painters tape. (This will prevent any scratches to your paint during the removal process.)

2. Using a hair dryer or heat gun; heat up the double sided tape that attaches the rear emblem to the decklid.

3. Using a plastic or wooden wedge; carefully begin to pry the emblem away from the decklid. (You can also use fishing line and pull it through behind the emblem. Be careful not to scratch through the paint.)

4. With the emblem removed; use a hair dryer or heat gun to heat the adhesive holding the black center portion of the emblem to the chrome trim ring.

5. Pull fishing line through behind the black center portion of the emblem. You may also have to use a flat head screw driver to pry the center portion away from the trim ring. (No need to save the trim ring, it will not be re-installed on the car.)

Installation Procedure:

1. Apply RTV adhesive to the black center portion of the emblem and place it in the hole on the decklid panel. (At this point you will want to level it to your standards. I chose to use a level surface to make sure it was perfectly straight.)

2. While the RTV adhesive is drying remove the painters tape from the decklid. (I chose to let the emblem adhere to the decklid panel overnight before attaching the entire assembly to the decklid but you can chose how long to wait based on the recommendations on the RTV adhesive you choose.)

3. Wipe down the decklid with rubbing alcohol and the lint free cloth.

4. After the RTV adhesive has set; remove the backing from the double sided tape on the backside of the decklid panel.

5. Line up the decklid panel on the decklid without letting the double sided tape make contact. Once the tape touches the decklid it’s on there for good; you only get one shot. When the decklid panel is lined up on all sides press it on to the decklid.

6. Apply pressure to the top and bottom of the decklid panel for thirty (30) seconds and then to both sides to help the double sided tape adhere. Allow this to set for at least an hour before driving and avoid rain snow or car washes for at least twelve (12) hours.

7. Enjoy your new rear.
