Ford Racing Sport GT500 Mufflers on 2011 GT

I purchased these mufflers after lots of listening to exhaust videos online. I wanted something a bit louder than stock and with a deeper, more powerful tone. These mufflers fit the bill perfectly. Even though Ford designed them for the GT500 they work just fine on my '11 GT and sound amazing. They're not too loud as to wake my neighbors up when I drive off in the morning, but they're definitely a nice improvement over stock. I don't know whether it's true but these mufflers are rumored to be made by Borla. I can tell you that the sound and construction quality would be commensurate with Borla products. While these aren't the cheapest option out there, they are a good deal when compared with the Borla branded mufflers. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase.

A downgrade to the stock axle-backs

My wife purchased these axle-backs for her 2012 GT500 with the assumption that they would provide a slightly more aggressive sound over the stock ones. They fit nice, but they honestly sound terrible. All of the signature "mustang sound" is completely gone. No crackles and pops when rev-matching, no raspy sound when free-revving... nothing, very tame (sounds like a bone-stock Camaro SS). We removed them and put the stock axle-backs on. Beware before you buy these, they WILL make your car sound like a lame chevy, and you won't be able to return them once installed.

    Deeper, more refined exhaust note

The install was pretty straight forward. I removed the exhaust hangers, instead of loosening the bolts on the H-Pipe. It's a little tight getting bolts off with the larger stock exhaust, but I took my time. Install of the new axle-backs was a breeze since you have plenty of extra room to bolt up the hangers. Really glad I wore safety glasses since I had a bolt fall on my eye On the plus side, the tips looks excellent and the overall construction is really nice. Fit was spot-on. Overall, I really like the deeper tone these produce. Volume seems close to stock, maybe a touch louder. But what I really miss that 'nasty GT500' sound of downshifting into a corner where the stock exhaust popped and grumbled...it's just 'mean'. The FRPPs are almost a bit too refined IMHO. I'll keeps these on for now, but will look for another exhaust mod that might bring back some of the stock sounds I really enjoyed.
