How To Install a Power Window Switch on your 1999-2004 Mustang

Installation Time

30 minutes

Tools Required
  • Phillips Head Screwdriver
  • Flat Head Screw Driver

Installation Instructions:

1. Open Door and make sure car is off.

2. Look at the door panel, just above the handle bezel. There should be a slight indent near the top where it meets the rest of the door panel, gently pull this towards you. You can use a flat head screw driver to assist you, but it might scrape the paint.

3. Now, on the bottom left hand side, pull this side upwards towards the window, it should pop up easily.

4. Lastly, you can now pull up the bottom right hand side. Be careful as this one will be a little stuck in there, you must carefully grasp the entire bezel and pull it upwards. As long as the clip is still attached, there should be no problems. If the clip falls off, just put it back on the plastic tab so if it needs to be removed again, the tab will not crack. If you are missing your clip or it is broken, you NEED to order another set as it will prevent this tab from snapping.

5. Now you’re going to want to unscrew the two Philips heads holding the board with your switches on it, so that you can pull it out of its housing.

6. Now that it’s removed, you should see either two switches (Passenger side) or three (Drivers side). You’re going to want to gently grasp the malfunctioning power window switch, and wiggle it back and forth upwards until it starts becoming looser, and eventually pops out.

7. Take your new switch, and just plug it into the now vacant spot. At this point, you might want to turn your accessories on, and make sure the switch works. It should work perfectly fine, and if it does, you can continue with putting the switch back into its bezel, and securing it in place with the screws.

8. Once everything is in working order, secure the board to the bezel with the screws, and then put it back in reverse from how you took it out. (Make sure the clip is on the tab!) Take the bottom right corner, and gently push that in. Now, take the bottom left corner and push that in, and the top most clip should just slide into place. Everything should be working fine now. Enjoy having the windows down!
