Featuring a high-output motor with internal gear reduction, this High-Torque Mini Starter has much more cranking power than the stock starter.

Technical Note. Must use diode protected fender well solenoid when used in non-production applications.

Is this starter much smaller than the stock starter? I need to fit this between kooks long tube headers.

  • Yes it is. Great starter, I have one. Transmission has to be pulled. Longtube headers will fit with no issue.

    Good Starter for Long Tube Headers

    I just recently installed Kooks 1-7/8" long tubes on my mustang and ended up replacing the starter with this unit. My original starter was working fine, but I ended up over torquing the ground wire and broke the stud off of the solenoid. I saw they had this unit which is supposed to be smaller than the stock starter and has more starting torque, so I took a chance and ordered it. At first glance, it appears to be the same size as the stock starter. however after installed there is more clearance between my headers than the stock starter. Also the claim that it has more starting torque is true. Sometimes with the stock starter it seemed like it would struggle to start the engine, and I don't even have 10K miles on my car. With this starter the few times that I've tried it, it starts instantaneously, and just feels smoother when turning the key. On other thoughts the wiring harness they provide you with will be unnecessary for most people, and could be omitted to cut cost. If you need to replace your starter or are just doing long tubes, I would definitely recommend this starter.

    Top Notch Quality

    For the record, I didn't NEED a new starter, but I am going to be doing a clutch job soon and this caught my eye. I read Robb10's review of this starter and he really seemed to like it. There's not much other information posted online for this item so I thought I would try it and share my experience. The starter itself is very high quality and is slightly smaller than the stock starter in size. It weighed 6.6 pounds on my scale vs 8.4 pounds for the stock starter. It came with all new mounting bolts and nuts for the electrical connections, as well as a new wiring harness. I personally did not install the new wiring harness because it is the same gauge wire as your stock wiring and there is no good reason to undo your stock wiring harness for the install. This means that installation for the new starter was just plug and play. I was very curious as to what the starter would sound like after reading Robb10's review, and it does have a unique sound. It's not as deep and loud as the stock starter rumble, but it's quieter overall and has a subtle high pitched motor whine to it. Overall it sounds more refined and efficient. The first noise that other people will hear will most likely be your engine exhaust firing up and not the actual starter. I noticed that my stock starter would occasionally struggle to start my engine but this one always starts it very quickly. Overall I'm pleased with my purchase and you can't go wrong with Ford Racing parts!

    Installed the FRPP Hi-torque Mini Starter when replacing all of the clutch components. This starter is no joke. I HIGHLY recommend this particular model. The brief sound it makes when engaged is something to experience. Never in my life could i have imagined getting such a kick from hearing a motor start up. real gear heads will get a grin when heard. It is top notch. I'm so glad I got it. Surprised me when first engaged, in a good way.
