JBA Shorty Headers

They are great. I bought the whole system from front to back. I did away with the cats. My 5.0 can breath now. And I used Flowmaster Outlaws on the rear. Talk about great sound and turning heads. Ilove

Upgrading to Headers Sir/Ma'am, because on how the 2013 Boss 302 exhaust system design is, which one is an easy bolt-on, a long tube headers or the JBA Ceramic Cat4ward Shorty Headers? What else comes with type of upgrade (e.g. O2 sensor extension)? Your assistance and response will be greatly appreciated. Bobby.

  • If you go with the shorties, gains will be lower than with long-tubes but sound will increase, mid range will increase, and you will need no additional parts (I would recommend getting stock gaskets if yours are damaged during removal. The paper ones that come with aftermarket headers aren't usually that great). Shorty headers are the easiest to install as they require little more than removing the bolts for the stock exhaust manifolds. Long-tubes will require more time and depending on tube length and design, may require you to disconnect the steering linkage and lift the motor a few inches to maneuver them in. Long-tubes' gains will be higher and have a better mid and top end. Sound will be excellent, deeper, louder, more powerful. You will need to purchase O2 sensor extenders to run these as well as figure out your states emissions laws as the relate to catalytic converters. You will either need to cut yours off and make or buy a matching crossover pipe or buy high flow cats and modify your existing crossover pipe. In either case, your car will be happier and you will be happier with them vs the stock exhaust manifolds.

Drone? Hp Gains? Louder? Will this cause any drones? How many Hp gains can i expect? HP gains noticeable when driving? How much louder can i expect this to be?

  • Your mufflers will determine if your exhaust will drone, not the headers. As for gains, dynos of similar tuned length shorties produced ~14rwhp and ~8rwtq, This was however achieved with the addition of an X-pipe after the cats. The advantage with shorty headers is not in their peak power numbers but in non-peak numbers which increased power across the entire rpm range. They do produce a deeper and louder exhaust note.

    My mustang GT can breathe

    February 05, 2014

I've read a lot of reviews whether shorty headers really give any performance gains, and was surprised that most people were against shorty headers. I completely disagree with those opinions, which is backed by my personal experience with JBA shorty headers (just got them installed at the shop in Northern California for $400). They have given me noticeable low end torque (which is what I was looking for), a definite sound improvement, the car now revs easier and the engine runs a lot smoother. I haven't changed the catback just yet (waiting for my Magnaflow Competition to arrive), but these headers give a nice power improvement even with factory catback. As you might know, California does not allow Long Tube Headers, so this was the only option for me. Besides, I wouldn't have considered Long Tube Headers due to their low-end torque loss, even if they were legal in California. So, this was a win-win situation for me. Please do more research if you're steered away from shorty headers by other "experts". They really do work!
