I was looking at this H pipe due to the two piece design. I currently have the Pypes off-road H pipe which I love, but it's got small leaks through out the clamped areas. It's also causing me to throw a code even with Eliminators. Anyways, I noticed both the Pypes and JBA have great ratings. Just wondering if anyone has made the switch from Pypes to JBA yet. Would it be worth switching over? Any difference in isound? Etc. thanks in advance

  • Both of these pipes will have a classic muscle car sound. The JBA h-pipe will be a direct bolt on with flanges which should not cause any exhaust leaks. You'll definitely enjoy the low rumble that JBA pipes have to offer.

installing slp cats on this H-pipe? Will i have to do any mods on the pipe.? like pipe expanding on the pipe??since its a 2 1/2" o/d on one end & 2 1/2" i/d on the other..

  • You will have to expand the pipe downstream of the cats. This pipe does not hang low, read other reviews. There may not be space between cats and body using this pipe. I have this pipe on my 03 Mach1 and my wife has the SLP catted x-pipe on her 03 Mach 1.

Will a tune be required after the installation of this H-pipe? I have an '03 Cobra with a SLP Loudmouth II cat back installed. I'm going to retain the stock headers for now but next spring I'll be adding S/C and idler pulleys, colder plugs and a larger heat exchanger. If I need a tune, I'd rather just do all of this at once instead of putting the car on the dyno twice. I've read that the car may run lean and experience idle decay. Help!?

  • Installation of the JBA Off-Road H-Pipe (99-04 4.6L) will require a tune since you are eliminating your catalytic converters.

Will this hook up to bbk shorty headers?

  • The JBA Off-Road H-Pipe are designed to work with with stock location headers. This should work with the BBK shorty headers, however, since manufactures has different tolerances, it may not bolt up 100%. We would highly recommend using the same manufacturer for the headers and the mid-pipe for proper fitment.

Will this fit an automatic 2000 Mustang GT? I have an automatic 2000 GT and by my understanding some off road mid pipes will not fit, but this one does not specify.

  • Yes. I have a 2004 automatic gt. It fits just fine and sounds amazing. You definitely won't regret getting this off road pipe.

O2 extensions or MIL eliminators I'm looking to get an h-pipe for my mustang but i read you need extensions for the rear sensors. Now if i end up buying it and get the MIL eliminators would i still need the extensions?

  • I did not need any extensions on my install which is on a 2000 gt. But the MIL eliminators will add about 6 inches more to the length of your O2 sensor connections.

Fitment was great but after a few days of driving it sounds like I have an exhaust leak where the pipe meets the manifold. Could possibly just need tightened up. Paired nice with my SLP catback, was just the loud I was looking for.

    That deep tone

I had this H-pipe installed with a set or Borla stingers and it sounds amazing. When I turned it on for the first time coming out of the shop i couldn't help but smile. I've always favored the old muscle car tone compared to the rasp you get from an x-pipe and this H-pipe was everything i wanted and more. It is rather loud when you stand on it though and anything over 75mph on the highway gets old.

    Great quality, fit and finish

I tried another cheaper O/R H pipe from a competitor of AM. I had used this competitor for years before I bought a Mustang and found AM. It was a piece of junk. Did not fit, poor quality but was cheap. I finally got them to take it back and I immediately called AM. Spoke to Bill and explained I wanted the pipe to fit!! He recommended the JBA. What a great piece! Outstanding quality on the material (stainless), welds, fit and finish! Although it was priced a fair amount higher, it was worth it. Thank you AM!!!

    Sounds Soo Good

I just received this h pipe along with my slp lm1 today. And installed in an hourish. Just let me say it sounds so good, Cant say what it sounds just by itself, but with the 2 combined it was that exhaust note that i was looking for. When you down shift it sounds like thunder, not all that rasp you get with a bbk or/x and flowmasters. I switched from bbk or/x to this cause i was sick of the " tin can" sound the two made together. Hope this helps. Oh and fitment was perfect, no exhaust leaks and it doesn't hang low like the bbk x-pipes do.

    High Quality, Sounds Great

Exhaust is well made and sounds great. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars across the board is the passenger side header gasket provided with the kit basically desintigrated after a day at the track. I recommend this exhaust, but if you plan on running some track events, get a replacement gasket from Ford.

    Amazed how good it sounds!

The install was pretty easy being a 2 piece design. It took a little adjusting to get the angle perfect, again, being 2 piece made it easier. I'm running the JBA Shorty headers, this JBA H pipe and Flowmaster American Thunder system. At start up and idle, it has the perfect balance of loudness and tone. Its a deep tone at idle. Going through the gears, it gets alot louder, and has a mean old school growl to it. If you do not want a raspy, rediculously loud exhaust, like I did, this is the one to get!

    Jab off road h-pipe

Install was a little tricky because the bolts that were supplied were not long enough(bolts for the clamps). Once we got past that it was pretty straightforward, it should be noted that my buddy is a Ford mechanic so he is quite skilled. I would say it took an honest hour and a half to two hours (also changed oil). The pipe that we took off was a BBK-X pipe with high flow cats which was rubbing on speed bumps and driveway aprons all of the time. The car definitely has a more aggressive sound, it is much louder, feels like it makes more power and does not rub on the ground at all. I would say it is about 30 louder than the X pipe with cats and the tone is just a better sound to me. I picked my buddy up on the way home from the install and took him for a ride and he was blown away at how good it sounds and stated that "this is the way a Mustang should sound". Sorry no pics.

X Pipe resonating/rattling woes? Look no further.

If you’re disappointed with how the BBK off road X pipe sounds on your car with the resonating/rattling sound inside and rasp/popping outside, you are looking at the right product to fix that. I ran the BBK offroad X pipe with Flowmasters for a summer, being in my mid-30s I was embarrassed to have passengers and drive around town because it sounded like a cheap, racer-boy car inside and out with all the resonating and popping. After reading that X pipes are inherently more raspy than H pipes (I read that before buying the x pipe but didn’t take it seriously), watching countless web video clips, and overcoming the thought of tackling more nasty back-on-the-floor exhaust work with bad result, I put this offroad H system on. It’s been weeks since I put this on and I’m still high as a kite that my car finally sounds like it should – deep, controlled, tasteful, and muscular. Best yet, no more tinny rattling sounds inside the car. Also, being a 2-piece system (unlike the BBK X pipe 4 piece) it’s much easier to install and align, and less places to leak. There were only 2 minor cons I ran in to. First, the included gasket is just a flat piece as seen in photos, where the OEM style has the raised lead crush ring. Maybe the included gasket would have been fine, but I wasn’t taking the chance, I sprung the 7 bucks for an OEM style from the auto parts store down the street. Second, the bolts included to mate to the catbacks were not long enough, I had to go get ¼” longer bolts to make it work (2 bucks for automotive grade bolts at a local hardware store). In the end there is no replacement for having a car sound the way you want; if you like deep, muscular sound versus the raspy, popping sound of an X pipe, this is the mid-pipe you want.

I did A LOT of researcher before finally deciding on this pipe, and I can say it absolutely exceeded my expectations. The pipe is loud as others have said, but unlike an X pipe the sound is very clean with no rasp. If you want a nice deep sound from your Mustang, this pipe is the way to go. My only small complaint is the included gasket was very cheap and after the initial install I had a pretty noticeable leak between the pipe and the passenger side manifold. Luckily my original gasket was still in good shape, so I just doubled it up with the new one and leak is gone. As always, a fantastic product and fantastic service from American Muscle. BUY THIS PIPE! You will not be dissapointed.

Great product! Easy installation! Direct fit no modifications needed. Local muffler shop installed in less than 50 minutes. Great sound. Deep rumble and great sound when crushing between 1500-3000! Been trying to find this sound for years and this product helped bring it to life. Used with bassani cutbacks on an 03 Mach 1.

    Great quality and fitment

Make sure you have 1/2" drives and U joints, otherwise getting off the stock H pipe just isn't going to happen. When you install this, put antisieze on the factory threads for the studs, and buy new nuts - it doesn't hurt to buy a heavier duty exhaust clamp than what JBA included (my only complaint). Go slow and even when you tighten the exhaust nuts, and know that you have to crush the steel of the H pipe over the collector dome on the driver's side to get a leak free fitment. Well worth the effort, and a great quality piece that fits awesome and doesn't hang low at all.

    Very good quality all around!

They had a sale on it, and I'm quite happy with how good it is. It's all stainless and the quality is really nice. It bolted right up with very little trouble; maybe 1.5 hours or so. The two piece construction makes it pretty straightforward. Make sure you get the passenger side header connection good and tight. I thought it was but had a fairly decent exhaust leak at the flange, so I had to crawl back under and torque them down some more. Don't be afraid to muscle up and make sure you tighten them evenly or it will try to cock sideways. I have it paired with regular Magnaflow mufflers (not the Magnapacks), and it sounds REALLY nice. Not too loud at idle, but thumps really good when you're on it. It might be a smidge loud for me (I'm 36 not 16), so I got some Pypes M80's to weld in the H-pipe. The only knock is that the 4 rear bolts where it connects to the mufflers are SHORT. They need to be like 1-2" longer. I had to use some longer bolts which I fortunately had around. I was able to use one of the supplied ones on each muffler connection, but it barely grabbed. If they supplied longer bolts it would've been a perfect 5 stars. Don't hesitate to buy though. It's GREAT!
