Hi I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, here with a way to keep your Coyote motor clean, and sludge free, thanks to these JLT oil separators available in a black, or satin finish for all 2011 and newer Mustang GTs. So what do these do? Well, just about every internal combustion engine has what’s called PCV, or Positive Crank Case Ventilation. Basically what this does, is allows the oily vapors and gases that are produced during combustion, to escape the block or crank case in a controlled manner. A lot of times these oils and gases are routed through a PCV valve or a breather tube, back into the intake track to eventually be burned off by your engine. The only problem with this is these vapors can eventually dirty up the intake manifold over time and in some very extreme cases can cause damage, or lower your octane rating by diluting your fuel. This becomes even more of an issue on supercharged or turbocharged cars, where crank case pressures are increased, causing even more of this oily by product to occur. That’s where these oil separators from JLT come into play, these mount in line with your Mustang’s PCV system to catch any excess oil vapors or sludge. As a matter of fact, we did install one of these on our 2011 GT here a little while back, and since then we’ve been doing some spirited driving, and a few Dyno pulls, probably totaling 50-60 miles. Let’s take a look inside and see what we’ve collected. Alright, well there you go, that would have otherwise ended up back into our intake manifold. Taking a closer look at the kit, you’ll notice it’s actually pretty simple. JLT uses a 2 ounce, Billet aluminum collector, that’s available in your choice or either a satin silver, or a black finish, They also include these two preinstalled factory hoses, making this a completely easy plug and play install that should take you no more than 30 minutes. All you need to do is remove your factory tube connected your valve to the intake manifold, and plug the new JLT setup in its place. You will notice there are two PCV hoses on your Coyote motor, one on the passenger side and one on the driver side, does this mean you need to run two oil separators? Well, JLT claims that 80% of the oil and sludge on the Coyote motor comes from one side. Of course running one for each side would be the best option, especially if you’re running a boosted setup, but that’s for you to decide. So if you want to invest in a product that will help keep your Coyote motor free from sludge, then going with a product like this JLT oil separator would be a great place to start.

Reduce Sludge. In your Mustang's engine, crankcase exhaust is re-circulated back through your PCV system and intake, taking with it large amounts of oil vapors. This JLT Oil Separator kit installs in your PCV line to filter out oil before it can get into your engine's intake - where it doesn't belong - and cause damage. 

Premium Quality Kit. This high quality kit includes the JLT Oil Separator, which features billet aluminum construction with a black anodized finish for superior style and durability. The 2 oz. tank base is easily removed for draining during oil changes, and is designed with a o-ring for a leak-free seal. Plus, JLT added a Ford Motorcraft metal mesh PCV pre-filter to prevent any oil from getting back into your intake.

Easy Installation. This complete kit includes a factory PCV line that has already been modified with the necessary fittings and attached to the separator for a true plug-and-play installation.

Application. This JLT Oil Separator kit is designed for 2007 to 2014 GT500 Mustangs. Designed for direct installation on the passenger's side only (same side as the PCV valve).

How often do you have to empty? Just wondering how often you have to empty the catch can and what could happen if you forget to empty it?


  • I checked mine every 2500 miles and was about 1/4 full. It only takes a couple of minutes to check it, so what ever you feel comfortable with is good.

    JLT Oil Catch Can (pass side) '08 GT 500

    It took longer to open the hood than to install this thing... It works GREAT! I did not know that there was that much oil going through that hose. I liked it so well I got the drivers side as well. Highly recommend this Catch Can. **NOTE** If you are only gonna buy ONE catch can???Get the PASSENGER side...

    Quick and easy

    The look and quality of the are excellent. It appears as if it came from the factory. Install time was about two minutes and fit perfectly. It just give a little peace of mind knowing it's helping to keep my intake a little cleaner. I had the JTL on my '11 GT so I'm confident that it works.

    A MUST

    This is a must on any gt500. All gt500s should come from the factory with a factory oil separator on the passenger side. You will be amazed when you see how much oil this unit catches.

    Needed Upgrade

    This is a truly awesome product! I noticed when doing the install after removing the old PCV tubing that there is light oil film inside the tubing. This was a fear of mine from the start so this was one of my first and very NEEDED UPGRADES!! I will be doing the Drivers side next. Thanks JLT for a very nice compact package the fits under my strut tower brace and is very easy to work on, and American Muscle for helping me making sure this fit my 2013 GT500..

    Easy install

    Took me maybe a whole minute to install. Unclip the old line and then clip in the new oil separator. It's literally that easy, and it's worth it for the peace-of-mind you will get.

    Great product. Highly recommended.

    Wish I had known about this sooner. The idiots at my local Ford dealership changed my oil one time and put in 9 quarts (6.5 is capacity). Since the car was garaged for most of the winter after the oil change, I never checked it. When I changed the oil myself, I discovered the error. My plugs were fouled and my intercooler will likely need replacement due to the error. The car was driven about 500 mi after the change. I did not have the "catch can" installed. I learned about this product through Internet research after the incident and feel much better having it installed. I have already emptied the can once and was glad to see it doing its job.
