      Video Review & Installation

Justin: The J&L Passenger Side Oil Separator that we have here today is gonna be a great way for 2011 through 2017 GT or Boss owners, along with 2015 through 2020 GT350 owners, looking to help keep those intakes and valves a little bit cleaner over the long run. Now, the J&L will pack a made-in-the-USA build consisting of a 3-ounce billet aluminum canister, along with that silver finish in all of your factory lines and fittings for right around that high $100 price point. So, if you didn't know, your car has what is called a PCV system or positive crankcase ventilation. Now, the purpose of this system is to help regulate and remove the fumes and vapors caused during combustion from the engine crankcase to help alleviate crankcase pressure. Now, if it didn't do this, or if this system didn't exist, well, you would otherwise have oil leaks, seal damage, and all that other bad stuff. Now, the government EPA, whoever wanted to mandate that the PCV system be sealed and not allow that stuff to escape to atmosphere. So, therefore, engine manufacturers or car manufacturers had to make sure they used engine vacuum to draw these fumes and vapors out, and then ultimately plum them back into the intake where they were eventually to be burned off during the next combustion cycle. Now, yes, this all sounds great in theory problem solved, right? Well, not so fast. A lot of times these oily vapors end up leaving this oily residue, not only into your intake or intake manifold but also on the backside of valves, which can lead to a host of issues. And that's where the oil separators come into play. Now, the J&L here is gonna utilize a combination of a stainless steel mesh, and an aluminum honeycomb filter housed in the top portion here, which will basically allow the vapors to pass through the J&L separator, formally known as JLT, where at that point, the filter media up top is gonna collect and isolate that stuff, and allow it to drop down into your 3-ounce canister here and still allowing fresh clean air to pass through the PCV system as intended. Now, for your reference here, guys, J&L claims that emptying this junk every 5,000 to 7,000 miles should be good, but in my experience on different applications, they tend to fill up quickly, so... And this can definitely change depending on a few different variables, such as engine condition, weather conditions, and so forth. So, basically, what I'm trying to tell you is not a bad idea to check it a little bit more frequently. Now, as far as your construction is concerned here, gang, well, pretty simple design overall, right? You got a billet aluminum canister for the main material here and they do finish it off, in this case, in the clear anodized satin finish, basically a silver finish. But if you wanted a more stealthy option, well, J&L does is also make a black finish as well. Now, this is the Mustang-specific passenger side kit, which does include the factory-style hoses here along with the factory-style fittings. And, again, the entire kit has been made in the USA.Now, if you did want full protection from both passenger and driver side isolation, J&L does also make a driver side kit that you can find here on the site in both satin and black. Now, as far as your installation is concerned, guys, very simple stuff. Again, factory-style fittings, basically plug-and-play. So, therefore, site's gonna call it a pretty soft one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, maybe 10 minutes of your time to get everything in place. But now to give you a better idea of just how this job will go down, we actually have an AM customer to walk you through things now. Check it out.Man 1: Okay. Today, we have the JLT 3.0 Full catch can for a 2011 Mustang GT 5.0. First thing we gotta do is disconnect the old hose. It's got two quick connects, super easy, no tools required. Okay? And we take the new part, snap it into place.Man 2: And the fittings are made to be adjusted, they twist. There we go. All right. Then you got to take your wrench, put it on that fitting, and hold it so that you can attempt to make it as level as possible, which might involve a little rotating of these. Let me see if I can make it adjust that way once sit up like that. So turn it like that, then turn it like that. Well...Man 1: That's okay. It can go with an angle, as long as it's, kind of, straight. You look at it from this side. Can you tilt the bottom in at all? No, this hose right here's sitting up?Man 2: That's it. So that's...Man 1: But I'd rather rest on the hose instead of on the tank on the front.Man 2: Right. Well, it's totally resting on its own weight.Man 1: Yep, looks good.Man 2: But there are mounting holes if you want to put it on something on a bracket.Man 1: On the bracket. Okay. All right. Folks, that's it. It's that simple.Justin: But wrapping this one up, guys, if you are looking to help keep the inside of your engine a little bit cleaner in the long run, well then, you'll wanna check out an oil separator from J&L right here at americanmuscle.com.

      Description

Reduces Engine Sludge. Did you know that engine sludge is robbing your Mustang of power? Well it's true. Engine crankcase exhaust "blow-by" is an oily vapor that re-enters through your PCV system and over time will coat the inside of your intake and throttle body. This oily vapor will then congeal into a gummy mess better known as engine sludge. However, you can stop the formation of this sludge by installing a J&L Version 3.0 Air/Oil Separator. An Air/Oil Separator (better known as a catch can) captures these blow-by gases before they are able to re-enter the system preventing the formation of engine sludge in the first place. A J&L Separator is ideal for use on all Mustangs no matter the application.

Version 3.0. J&L improved on the designed of their old Oil Separator with the introduction of their new and improved Version 3.0. The first big change you will notice is that the Version 3.0 Separator has a larger 3 oz capacity, that is almost double that of their previous model. Another important difference is the filter media. Older J&L Separators used a Ford Motorcraft pre-filter, but now J&L uses a 1/2" thick 1/16th" aluminum honeycomb filter with a mesh stainless steel screen to trap even more fine oil vapors than before to prevent them from gumming up your engine.

Superior Quality. This J&L Oil Separator Company Air/Oil Separator is proudly manufactured right here in the USA. J&L CNC-machines their Air/Oil Separator from a solid block of billet aluminum for superior strength. Designed with a rubber o-ring, this Separator will maintain a tight leak-free seal. The base features a knurled texture, so that it can easily be gripped for removal during routine oil changes. J&L then completes their Catch Can in a durable clear anodized satin finish for impressive good looks and long lasting corrosion resistance.

Easy Installation. J&L Oil Separator Company engineered their Separator to be installed in under 10 minutes with just basic hand tools. This kit comes complete and includes two PCV lines with stock-style quick-disconnect fittings that allow for an easy plug-and-play installation. All the necessary parts are included, with no cutting or extra modifications required.

Application. This J&L Oil Separator Company Version 3.0 Satin Passenger Side Air/Oil Separator is designed for use on 2011-2017 GT, 2012-2013 BOSS and 2015-2020 Shelby GT350/GT350R models. Installs on the passenger side, same side as the PCV valve.

Technical Note. This J&L Air/Oil Separator is not CARB certified, therefore it is not legal for use in California or other states adopting California emission standards. It is intended for off-road use only.
