Review & Installation Video

Hey, Justin here with AmericanMuscle.com, taking a closer look at Magnaflow’s competition series catback exhaust fitting all 2011 and newer Mustang GTs. The competition series continues to be a popular choice here on the site, thanks in part to it’s very aggressive tone, along with the solid performance gains this kit offers. The system is constructed from 100% stainless steel and features 3” mandrel bent tubing which is going to be the norm for the majority of aftermarket catbacks for the 2011 and up Mustangs. That aggressive tone comes from these competition series mufflers, which feature a straight through design, really freeing up that exhaust flow. Finally, everything exits out these hand polished 4” tips. As far as price is concerned, you’ll find the competition series to be in the mid to high side of the price range, but still not as expensive as some other exhausts on the market. Getting this catback installed is fairly straightforward, and should take you about 2 hours using standard hand tools. Now let’s hear how Magnaflow’s competition series sounds compared to our factory exhaust.

See our 2011 GT Project Car Now

Add Horsepower. Stop choking your 5.0 with a stock exhaust and enjoy more horsepower with a Magnaflow Competition Cat-Back. By reducing backpressure and giving your Mustang GT or GT500 a free-flowing exhaust, you'll see great power and torque gains. In fact, our 2011 Project car has this same system with the off-road x-pipe, and was dyno tested with a peak gain of 19 RWHP and 18 ft-lb of torque. Plus, you'll set the stage for future mods.

Aggressive Musclecar Sound. Give your 2011-2012 Mustang GT a deep, aggressive rumble that will make lesser cars clear a path at lights with a Magnaflow Competition Cat-Back. This premium quality exhaust features free-flowing, straight-through mufflers that increase power and give your GT or GT500 an unmistakable musclecar sound.

Magnaflow Quality. Each piece is made from 3" mandrel bent stainless steel tubing for long life and a perfect fit. The straight-through mufflers end with brightly polished 4" stainless tips that exit in the stock locations for impressive styling.

Application. Made to be a direct bolt on, this catback will bolt straight up to the factory Mid-Pipe without any extra modifications required on your 2011 or 2012 Mustang GT or GT500 to give it the deepest, most aggressive sound possible.

Will this fit a 2013 GT Will this Catback Exhaust kit fit a 2013 Mustang GT?

LuisC

  • Unfortunately, it will not fit the 2013 GT. Magnaflow has totally separate systems created for the 2013 models. We are set to have them available on the site in the very near future!

    Loud and Bad@ss

Loud is an understatement.... I love this exhaust because the car sounds mean. This plus a CAI and Tune makes this car a true BEAST. You can hear this combo blocks away so if you are afraid of a loud super aggressive bad@ss exhaust look elsewhere.

    Sounds like a supercharger!

I noticed a better throttle control with this combo. Car has a slight whine/whistle now just like a supercharger. I have had people ask if I have a supercharger. Well worth the money!!

    2011 Mustang GT Exhaust

This exhaust is for people that want an agressive exhaust, power, and a nice deep rumble in the lower RPM's. In the higher RPM's it screams. Not for those that want just a little more rumble.

    Catback Exhaust

I am extremely satisfied with the exhaust. I love the rumble sound. I had the high school auto shop install the system and it only took them 1 class to install(around 90 minutes) The kids loved installing it and they loved the sound also.

    Best 1st Mod for Any 2011 5.0

Absolutely awesome. 1 HR install. Perfect fitment. Sounds like a race car. Definitely freed up some horses. This is what this Pony is supposed to sound like. Love the throttle response. Falls back to idle a bit faster and pops as it does. Just what I wanted.

Great product. Well worth the money! If you don't have access to a lift find one! Nearly impossible to get factory mid pipe over the rear end to remove without a lift! But I love it now that it's on!

    WARNING!! Not for lowered stangs.

Install is as described by others. Getting out the stock stuff is harder than putting this on. Sounds good and just loud enough but one MAJOR problem. I installed Eiback Pro-Kit springs and now even with stock bump stops, the axle hits the exhaust tubes even over small speed bumps. I've adjusted it to best case which has left my talipipes crooked and looking horrible, but is just plain engineered wrong and doesn't leave room for suspension travel. Im now constanlty on the brakes everytime I see any bump to try and avoid my new 2012 GT sounding like a budget junkyard build. If you want to lower you car (and they need it to look decent) shop for another system.

I'd suggest taking your Mustang to a local shop to get it looked over. I haven't heard of this problem in the past and they should be able to make some adjustments for you! Hope this helps!

    Great Sound

Just bought these with out the X Pipe. They sound great and give your stang a good throaty sound. Wish that NY would allow the X pipes because i would love to hear my baby whine. Little bit expensive and had to have ford install them so it ended up being 1000+.

    car bottoms out

I love everything about the exhaust except the fact that the differential smacks into the exhaust non stop. I even had ford take a look and they couldnt adjust it. I also have j and l lower control arms and eibach suspension which i got after i installed the exhaust. The car bottomed out even before i installed the suspension but after the new suspension was intalled its even worse. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I plan on putting the stock control arms back on and seeing if that helps. Other than that the exhaust is great but it is a deal breaker. If i had to do it again i wouldnt buy this oroduct.... would love an answer to this.

I think that this cat-back is good for louder than stock but if your going headers x-pipe I would turn my head and look elsewhere...I think that most would consider this exhaust to be way too loud for daily drivers. I still think it would be ok with stock headers and mid-pipe.

    • Response from AmericanMuscle

Any time an x-pipe is combined with an aggressive catback system, it will be very loud! Catted x-pipes would be slightly less raspy and loud as an off-road version. You could combine the catback with an h-pipe to tone down the rasp and give you more of an old school, deep muscle car sound.
