First, the cons: Poor quality control, heavy
I purchased a pair of these tires in July 2016 and mounted them on a new pair of 17 x 4.5 Darkstars.
Installer had difficulty balancing one of the tires, which required 6 oz. of weight to achieve proper balance. Upon installing these tire on the car and taking a test drive, tire shake was noticeable from the suspect tire. further inspection showed visible lateral and radial tread runout. So, it was balanced but out of round. Not having time to seek replacement of the tire prior to an important upcoming race weekend, I decided to live with the situation and run the tire, but this speaks of poor quality control at MT. Not what I'd expect from a specialty tire at this price.
Heavier than they look:
Also, please note: these tires are heavy for their size. They actually weigh 25 lbs. each! Considering that my 285/35R19 Bridgestone Potenza RE-11street tires weigh 31 lbs. each with over twice the width. So, the majority of any weight reduction improvements for drag racing come from the lighter wheel and not the tire. There is reduced rolling resistance and drag as well, so it's a useful upgrade, just not the weight reduction you might expect.
Now for the positives:
Probably the best choice for a front runner with Brembo brakes to clear. There are limited options available for 17" front runners out there so this is likely the best of those. These tires do handle reasonably well during street driving to and from the track. Just don't try to push them in the corners, cuz they will roll over. They will give you warning but the threshold is pretty low. Be smart. Be safe. They perform adequately in the wet but, again, remember how little tread you have to work with and what they are actually designed to do.
These tires do look cool with a set of sticky Mickeys out back and I've gotten numerous compliments on the look at the track and shows.
Overall, I'd hafta say these tires are very average to just OK in my opinion. They are more of an appearance improvement than performance upgrade in my opinion.
I will probably go with something else next time around.
