Review & Install Video

What's up guys? Adam here with, and today I'm bringing you my detailed review of the SR Performance High Performance Universal 16 inch Slim Electric Radiator Fan with the aluminum shroud combo for all '79 to '14 Mustangs. Some of you Mustang guys out there with the early fox bodies all the way up to the late S197s may be experiencing some overheating problems with your engine, or maybe you just need some extra room in the front of your engine bay for major mods like a turbo. This mod can be especially useful for you guys and the guys out there giving your pony a beating at the track. The engine can really heat up to some dangerous temperatures under all that stress and that's where the SR Performance High Performance Fan can come into play. Mustangs can sometimes run on the hotter side even if you're just daily driving it like I am with my Cobra. And we all know that they can use a little bit of help keeping cool, especially during long commutes and bumper-to-bumper traffic during the summer months. Upgrading to a High Performance Slim Electric Radiator Fan like this one from SR Performance can definitely correct the overheating problems and be an ideal upgrade or replacement. This electric fan I have here today is a 16 inch, ultra slim electric powered one-speed design with an aluminum shroud included in the kit. This fan includes 10 blades as opposed to the 9 or 6 blades that sometimes come stock on the Mustangs. The CFM rating for those of you who don't know, is the Cubic Feet per Minute, basically referring to the velocity at which air flows into or out of a space, in this case, the space being the engine bay. Now, you don't want expect your quarter mile to have seconds knocked off, but what you can expect is your engine to run a little bit cooler, which can definitely help with the quarter mile in the long run. Some customers even saw a 15 degree temperature difference, which is obviously a very good bonus. As I mentioned before this is an ultra slim fit design, so for those of you running an intricate setup like a forced induction may require more room for a turbo at the front of the engine bay. This design may be very helpful in getting everything to fit properly under your hood. Now as I mentioned before this is a universal fan, meaning it will work with all '79 to '14 Mustangs including the old push rod 5.0 engines like I have, or the 3 valve V6 engines. Now with that said, it might require slight modification to make it work with your particular setup. Price-wise, this fan and aluminum shroud comes in at just about the $120 mark, making it a bit more expensive than the other options on the market, but you do want to keep in mind that it is universal and it does come with a really good quality shroud. Now it's not the most expensive option on the market, but when it comes to a fan that includes a high quality shroud such as this one, you can definitely expect a price bump over the kits that just include a fan by itself. Now the installation for this part, because it is universal, may differ for some users. How you actually decide to mount the shroud and fan to your radiator is completely up to you, but I have found that you can probably spend less than 10 bucks for metal straps just to get this mounted to the radiator. Now if you need a good reference to what I mean, we do have an installation guide on the site but I do want to point out that because it's universal, it will differ for some users, so the installation guide might not directly apply to your situation because it's not directly a plug and play job. The wiring for this is also completely up to you. Some may find it easier just to splice it into the factory harness, others may find it easier to wire it into a dedicated switch. Again, you may need to get a little custom with the wiring, but it's also very doable. From start to finish, this install may take you up to two hours. Once you get the factory fan out, most of your time will be spent doing the mounting and wiring for the custom universal fan. With that said, I definitely give it a 2 out of 3 wrenches on the Difficulty Scale. Just to quickly wrap things up guys, if you're looking for a way to cool down an overheating engine, or if you need some extra space for some major mods, this SR Performance Universal 16 inch Ultra High Performance Slim Electric Radiator Fan with the aluminum shroud may be for you, and you can get yours right here at

Replace or Upgrade. Whether you're replacing a broken stock fan or upgrading, this slim SR Performance one speed High Performance 16" Fan will increase your cooling capacity. Its slim fit is the answer to fitment problems with other aftermarket products and if you need more space for major mods.

Keep Cool. If you have serious mods or let your Pony stretch its legs on the track or strip, it's critical to keep engine temps down to prevent expensive problems. Even daily driven 'Stangs can overheat if the conditions are tough, like in bumper-to-bumper traffic, causing permanent engine damage. Protect your investment with this High Performance SR Performance Slim Radiator Fan.

Ultra Slim Design. Unlike your bulky stock fan which takes up a lot of room, the SR Performance 16 inch High Performance Slim Radiator Fan can be easily installed flush against your radiator leaving lots of room for other performance parts.

Full Warranty. This SR Performance Slim Radiator Fan with Shroud features a Full One Year Warranty.

Universal Application. This Universal One Speed Slim 16" High Performance SR Performance Fan can be used as an upgrade to an existing OEM fan for more efficient cooling or used to solve fitment issues with an aftermarket product. Dimensions: 24.65" Wide x 17.97" Tall x 3.29" Deep

Technical Note. As this is a Universal Fan modifications maybe required for installation.

Hi. I have a 91 GT . Do i need a new thermostat and thermostat housing with sensor to kick the fan on when it gets to hot? And do i need a adjustmant controler like the one that comes in SVE radiator/ fan kit at LMR ?

  • This SR Performance Universal 16 in. High Performance Slim Electric Radiator Fan w/ Shroud is a universal fan, so it may be configured multiple way. You may wire it on an on/off switch, a thermostatic switch/controller or you may wire it to a power source that is on when the ignition is on.

How well does this work with the SR radiator and a single turbo on the 4.6?

  • The SR Performance Universal 16 in. High Performance Slim Electric Radiator Fan w/ Shroud does flow a high amount of air, however, for forced induction applications, specifically a turbocharged application which generate massive amounts of heat, a single fan may not be sufficient, especially with a stock radiator. If you are working with limited space in your engine bay, we would recommend installing a fan in front of the radiator and reversing the fans polarity so one fan pushes air, and the other pulls. We would recommend the Mishimoto 14 in. Performance Slim Electric Radiator Fan, Item 80210, for an addition 1300 cfm.

For a 2013 GT, will this fix (as in a direct bolt on without modification) the Mishimoto Performance Aluminum Radiator - Manual you also sell?

  • The SR Performance Universal 16 in. High Performance Slim Electric Radiator Fan w/ Shroud is a universal product so it will not be a direct fit, however, with a little DIY the fan & shroud can be installed with ease.

I have an 87 stang GT. Do I have to purchase an overflow tank for the radiator or can this kit run without one? And does this kit come with the needed wiring or will I need to purchase wiring? Is there anything else this fan will require that is not in this kit? Thanks

  • You should be able to reuse the overflow tank with this fan. This kit will also need the wires to be spliced together.

Will this work on a 2005 With Ati pro charger set up? Its the HO intercooler setup.

  • The SR Performance Universal 16 in. High Performance Slim Electric Radiator Fan w/ Shroud is a universal fan and shroud kit that may work with almost any application. If you set-up has approximately 3.5 inches of clearance from the radiator, it should fit, however, some trimming could be possible.

Would this fit directly into my 2001 mustang v6 3.8 ?

  • The SR Performance Universal 16 in. High Performance Slim Electric Radiator Fan w/ Shroud (79-14 All) is a direct fit into most Mustangs from 1979-2014 including the 2001 V6 3.8L Mustang. For exact fitments, see our "Will It Fit My Mustang?" tab on each page.

    Better than stock...

When I opened the box, there was missing parts. Parts I could live without. But still missing. It's light in weight and slim. I have a 2011 gt with the steeda CAI, boss 302 intake manifold and run the performance tune. So I recognize that I run high temps. While its 85-95 degrees. Looking to lower those temps so I can use my AC. Using the heat I get around 185. and AC I've seen up to 213. The fan prolongs the temps from reaching that high but can still reach that high easy. So I'm looking for more options without completely breaking bank. If using this fan in a 2011 or a similar set up, ditch the aluminum shroud and just attach it to the stock shroud. The 3 screws line right up but you just got to buy longer ones. Don't waste time making it fit. Trust me

    Lot more space

The install was easy took me about 30 minutes to install it but I took my time and p.s. put the screws in a container so u don't have to loose them. Any way got more room then the bulky stock and it's worth the penny I would recommend this to any mustang driver out there

Pretty wimpy looking fan. You get what you pay for, wish I would've gone with the mishimito dual fan and shroud instead.

    awesome fan for great price

I have a mild 302 and live in the hot 105 degree desert and almost always have my ac on, and this fan keeps my car running pretty cool. I would like to say though it didn't fit with a supercharger 8 rib pulley and if your running or going to run a supercharged foxbody I will honestly say this fan will not be able to keep up,but for what I'm doing it works pretty good. also there should be more specs on fan.

Good product help keep my foxbody cool, had to get straps, nuts and bolts, and self tapping screws to install it. Came with screws that did not use, did not come with the roll of whatever it is in the picture. It works though all that matters.

    SR Performance Electric Fan

I just received my fan today, and it was packaged very nicely. The fan appears to made of good quality parts, and there was minor modifications to make it fir my fox body, but anyone with any type of mechanical skills can install it. It keeps my fox running slightly cooler than my stock fan, and I noticed some extra ponies under the hood. Let's face it, everyone likes x-tra ponies. I would recommend anyone thinking about purchasing this fan to pull the trigger. Thanks again AM!

    TOP NOTCH Product

This fan finally did the trick! The 14 inch version that is actually made for the 97-04 mustangs just doesn't cut it. The blade design in this fan is definitely superior, and of course the extra 2 inches in size helps as well. Install was quick and easy, al in all good product!

    Too little... Too much....

Got the fan but when I opened it up, the fan was smaller than the stock fan. It had smaller straight blades and I don't believe it would move enough air so I sent it back. American Muscle was very good to work with though, no complaints about AM. My 4.6 is procharged and needs more air movement to stay cool. Going with a Reische thermostat and rewire the stock fan.
