13 GT Hood Scoop

The template was so so. The install wasn't bad and didn't take long. The fit isn't perfect. The left side looks good but the right gaps a bit. Overall it makes my car look sick.

Are the bolts necessary? I just received my MMD prepainted hood scoop for my 2014 GT and it looks awesome. My only hesitation is drilling the hood on the brand new car which makes this mod irreversable. This will most likley be my forever car that I will pass down, so any mods that I make I would like to be able to take back to stock as styles change. Is the 3M tape enough to hold the scoop on under normal conditions? The car will be garage kept and only driven on nice days. I will drive it hard on occasion and on short trips. Just don't want to drill the hood. Can I get away with just the tape?

  • Yes you can just use the 3M tape, but just know that it's not an intake or duct where the airflow will go inside the hood to give some cool air to the engine. The force of the wind will just be pushed inside of the hood scoop and just be building in more force and if you're going fast the scoop in time will loosen and fly right off and possibly hit someone or someone that is behind you and cause problems for you later on which I would want to avoid.

    MMD Hood Scoop - 2014 GT ... SCORE !!!!!

    September 28, 2013

I had a 2012 GT with the OEM scoop ... loved it ... and have been eagerly awaiting a suitable one for the 2014. MMD nailed it with this product. Not including a little prep work, the install took less than an hour - including my nailbiting while drilling thru my new car's hood. I might add two details to the otherwise pretty good instructions ... ONE: DO NOT drill the two 1/2 inch hole enlargements for the front two bolts all the way thru the hood - just thru the "hood framework" to allow access to the bolt with nut and washer, tightening same against the 1/4 inch hole drilled from the top. And TWO: DO NOT use the 3M Adhesive Promoter on any painted surfaces, just on the plastic underside of the new scoop and grill insert. I used a little extra rubbing alcohol on a microfiber cloth to "clean" the hood area for adhesion. The adhesive promoter provided was on my fingertips and seemed to "etch" the paint on the new scoop, which I was thankfully able to rub out with a little 3M compound I had on hand. Otherwise I am VERY happy with this product. It truly looks like an OE option and adds to the GT Style.

    Looks Great

    August 09, 2014

I'd give 5 stars on this but I ended up with a gap in front corner on the drivers side. It appears as if the bolt pulled a buckle in the hood causing this. It's not horrible but disappointing on a brand new car. For the average onlooker it's not immediately obvious. I get tons of compliments on my car as it's totally dressed out with parts from AM

Makes a Mustang really look like a nasty muscle car

    November 22, 2013

This hood scoop was just the finishing touch to my tricked put 2014 V6. The only problem or set back was the template did not quit match the bolt pattern on the scoop. So be sure to set the hood scoop on the pattern to check the hole spacing. Just check it and make any needed adjustments. Follow the instructions exactly as stated when appling the two sided tape and you will end up with a really cool addition to your Mustang

    Great Look!

    September 16, 2013

I have been waiting for a product like this since I got my '13 over a year ago. I had some small concerns prior to purchasing but I got great support from Alex in Customer Service. The Scoop arrived in one day (Wow!). Took a little bit longer than expected to install but because I had to drill holes in my hood, I did not want to risk being even 1/32 of an inch offline. The install went exactly as instructions indicated and those directions are spot on. With some of the mods I have on my Stang I get lots of looks and nods of the head. With the scoop on the hood, guys are pulling up next to me at lights and rolling down their windows to pay homage. Real "Muscle" car look! Thanks American Muscle!!

    HOOD SCOPE

    November 08, 2013

This Hood Scope fit,s perfect. I have 2 racing stripes from front to back at the center of my car and it took longer to center it ( the hood scope ) than it took to install it.The color matched perfect with the rest of the car.

    looks good but!!!!!!

    January 07, 2015

This is an excellent looking scoop and I love the look but the honeycomb insert causes the front left and right corners to be raised about an 1/8 inch. It will not fit smooth all the way around the edges. Also the template is not spot on so measure a lot. I installed it 2 different times with the same results and finally went to a body shop the only way to make it work was to grind the insert down to fit the hood. I decided to return it instead of going through all the hassle. American Muscle gave me a refund and paid for return shipping. I may have got a defective scoop I'm not sure but I decided to go with a different scoop cause I now have 4 holes in my hood.

    Aggressive Modification

    December 11, 2014

Let's be honest, the project MMD car showed this thing off like a badass. I finally pulled the trigger on the black friday sale, and I will say I am happy with the results. What YOU need to know before you buy it: 1. If you're a perfectionist, you might be upset with the fit. Where the hood meets the scoop where the screws are pulling them together, the fit is super close, and where the screws aren't, there's a slight gap. *You will only notice if you are looking very closely. 2. The paint match is exact, no issues there. 3. The stencil is just ok, as it is hard to maneuver around the curvature of the hood. Just measure every direction several times and pull really tight with masking tape. 4. The 2 screws for the front part do not come all the way out the bottom of the hood, making getting the washers and nuts on almost impossible. And the washers are bigger than the half inch hole you drill...So I had to use some old smaller washers I had laying around. (Why I won't give 5 stars, stupid mistake imo). Bottom Line: Great looks for a great price, but there are a few things MMD could have done better. Check out the pictures, recently uploaded white mustang with black vents.
