Review & Install Video

Hey everyone, Justin from AmericanMuscle.com checking out a very cool spoiler option from MMD, I’m talking about the MMD ducktail spoiler available unpainted or pre painted for all 2010 and newer Mustangs. MMD is no doubt one of the leaders in producing cool and stylish aftermarket appearance parts for your Mustang, designed to separate your ride from the rest. If you want to stay up to date with all the latest MMD parts for your Mustang, just subscribe to our YouTube channel by clicking on the link below if you haven’t done so already. Alright so there are plenty of options for aftermarket spoilers for your S197, and it really all depends on what you’re going for styling wise, MMD’s ducktail spoiler is based off the 67-69 Shelby Mustangs, which feature that really cool iconic kick up in the rear which gave the car a much more aggressive look. The MMD ducktail spoiler is slightly different to other ducktail options I’ve seen and here’s why, first up it’s a one piece spoiler as opposed to being a three piece, which it’s going to look much better on the rear end of the car, it’s going to flow nicely with the roundness of the rear end, and it will install slightly easier. Even though a traditional ducktail spoiler does stick straight up and down, you’ll see the MMD spoiler features more of an angle, which in my opinion again flows really well with the lines of the S197. As I mentioned in the beginning you do have the option to pick this spoiler up pre painted to match your ride, the pre painted option does get sprayed right here in our state of the art paint booth, using the same base and clear coat that Ford uses on their Mustangs, so of course you can expect a perfect color match right out of the box, and more importantly it’s going to save you the hassle of having to get this part painted yourself. Of course if you do have a paint hookup you can always pick up the unpainted version here in front of me for a few bucks less. If you want a complete breakdown of all the colors available for this spoiler, just click the link below to head back to the product page if you’re not there already. The nice thing with the MMD spoiler is if you already have a factory spoiler installed on your ride, the new MMD spoiler will install using those existing holes, on the other hand if you don’t have a factory spoiler, you will need to drill a couple holes but no big deal whatsoever as long as you take your time, follow the detailed instructions, and use the included drilling template. Either way, figure about an hour if you don’t have to drill maybe 2 hours if you do, but if you do get jammed up you can always give us a call or shoot us an email should you need any help. So if you’re looking for an aggressive spoiler option that flows very well with the lines of the newer S197, all with the convenience of having a pre painted part, then you have to check out MMD’s ducktail spoiler available right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Ask a Question

What is the overall height from trunk to top of ducktail spoiler? My wife and I are both short. Our car is a convertible and we can't see any part of the trunk looking out the back. We checked, and if the spoiler is about 4' this would help. Thanks

Dickandjo

  • I measured mine and it is exactly 3.5 inches high from trunk to the top of the spoiler.

Backup Camera Can the backup camera for a 2013 MCoA V6 be worked into this spoiler?

DevereIII

  • It can work on the spoiler but you would have to contact your local body shop for them to cut then place the camera into it. This will require a lot of customer work for this to make this happen.

I have a 2014 , but I didn't get one with a spoiler installed .will there be instructions an a template so I can install this myself?

soulshepperd

  • The spoiler comes with instructions, as well as few a strips of paper to use as a template to help you with drilling. There are also videos online that show you how to use the template-strips properly. I personally didn't have to use them as I had the OEM spoiler, but it was nice to see that they were included nonetheless.

I have a 2014 v6 and am looking for a wing/spoiler but my mustang didn't come with one. Does it come with a template to install? so i know where to drill holes

dlandry

  • The kit does come with a "template" and instructions as to how to use it to drill the holes. The "template" are actually strips of paper that you use by first placing the spoiler where you want it on your trunk (so that it is aligned), then taping the strips down once you are satisfied with the looks of the spoiler. There are other templates that you can find online with specific measurements as well if you need a little more precision.

Black spoiler I have a white 2014 mustang, and I would like to put this spoiler on it, but I want it black. I'm just not sure if it would look good. Has anyone done this? I just haven't seen anyone with a black one, so maybe it wouldn't look good?

Ryan1212

  • Look at the customer pictures in the RTR spoiler add on American Muscle web sight. They show a white stang with their black spoiler that is similar to the MMD, and yes it looks pretty good.

Review from MMD Ducktail Spoiler - Pre-painted (10-14 All)

    Beautiful fit and finish

I installed my MMD spoiler two days ago. Overall, extremely satisfied with the product. The pre-painted spoiler was painted perfectly barring one slight imperfection that I found. It was so small that I decided it wasn't worth sending it back for a new one. Packaging was questionable... I would have hoped that MMD/American Muscle would have put a little more effort into making sure that damage would be unlikely during shipping. The box it came in was mangled (not AM's fault, but the fault of UPS). At first glance at the box, I thought the spoiler would be in pieces when I opened it. Luckily, it was not. However, it was only protected by a thin layer of foam and some bubble wrap. Perhaps using a Styrofoam mold to completely encase it or even packing peanuts would be a safer way of transporting it. After I inspected it and made sure that everything was in the box, I set out on installation. I applied it in 45 degree weather while it was pouring outside (I was in a garage) and the 3M tape gave me a lot of trouble. 3M tape is sensitive to environmental conditions such as humidity and temperature. If you attempt application in a cold, wet environment, I can assure you that the 3M tape included with this spoiler will not bond to your Mustang. The fit of this spoiler is perfect. No gaps to speak of. The spoiler sits perfectly flush and the screws ensure that it isn't going to go anywhere. I am thankful that the MMD spoiler re-uses the factory mounting holes in the deck lid. Otherwise, I don't think I would have had the stomach to drill into my car! The look is great. The factory spoiler was just too small. This thing harkens back to the Shelby's of old. Do not worry about rear-ward visibility. While this spoiler is tall, it isn't so tall that it renders the rear view mirror useless. The paint job on the spoiler was stellar. Looked identical to that of the factory spoiler. That's all I can think to say about the product at the moment. Thanks AM!

Great addition to the vehicle performance.

Installation was pretty easy. Only difficult part was figuring out where to drill the holes since my mustang came spoiler-less (wish they had a template for that). With a little creativeness and tape I figured it out very quickly. Just over an hour. As for performance, it does provide a good amount of down-force to the rears and it is very noticeable. My rear wheels catch a lot better and quicker. I have less tail-wag around sharp turns as well. All in all a great spoiler for any type of driver. I think it's an essential upgrade for any mustang owner looking to make their car a little more race worthy around turns.

    Excellent....

The quality of this spoiler is excellent. Great fit and finish, easy to install and most importantly it looks great. Most time consuming part was removing the factory spoiler, but that's no problem with trim removal tools and a little patience. Total time of install was about 45 minutes.

    MMD Ductail Spoiler- Not Painted

...Have not installed it yet, but did do a "mock-up" with some color on the spoiler to see how it would "line-up" and "look" with the rest of the car. I can honestly say "perfect"! Had a Custom Body Shop remove OEM Spoiler and they will do the "official" painting and install. Waiting on that after the racing stripes are done so it all flows smoothly! Great Price and Look! Will send photos when all finished in the next couple of weeks. Thanks MMD

    Looks awesome

This spoiler looks awesome, perfectly matches the color of my car. It shipped extremely fast (2 days from ordering to arrival). It took me about 3 hours to get it installed, but I don't do work on cars ever, and I own no tools and don't know what I'm doing. It took me way longer to remove the old spoiler. The only issue I had was getting the adhesive tape along the front edge to actually stick down. Right now mine is a bit loose. Like, if you shut the truck it rattles and you can jiggle the whole thing with your hand fairly easily because the front edge isn't sticking down properly. If anyone has any tips let me know.

    Finished The Look

The best description I can give for this spoiler is an exaggerated GT spoiler. It looks fantastic. Little wider at the base and a little taller. As stated the hard part is removing the stocker. If you've got a heat gun and some razor wire this doesn't take long at all. I went with unpainted as I wanted mine to be flat to go along with the rest of my color scheme.

    Good bang for your buck

The spoiler adds a very nice look to your car. It has only been on for a few days, and I have had multiple compliments. The one end came a little bent, but nothing sand paper couldn't fix. I just wished these products came a little more secure in box. The only complaint I have is the paint looks a little wavy, but I am just OCD and notice every thing.

Seek Help Adding This Great Looking Spoiler!

This is an incredibly nice looking spoiler that I added to my '14 V6 Mustang. It is well made and the paint match was great. The only word of caution is that my installation would have gone better if I had a helper with the final step of positioning and adding the spoiler to the rear deck. It is extremely difficult for one person to position the spoiler with the sticky tape ready to attach and then lay the spoiler on the deck and add the four attaching bolts. This took several tries before I put the plastic back on the tape and added the spoiler's first two bolts, and then pulled the tape out and seated the spoiler, and then tightened all four bolts. While doing this the spoiler got away from me leaving some long scratches on my rear deck that I am trying to polish out. Overall, this is a great looking addition to my Mustang and is highly recommended, but I should have had a helper there for the final installation. There were none there at the time.
