Product Features

  • CNC-cut from 8620 gear steel
  • For street or track use
  • Superior quality
  • 4.10 Gear Ratio
  • 8.8" Ring Gear Diameter
  • Fits 1986-2012 V8 and 2011-2012 V6

Improve Overall Performance. Wake up your V8-powered Pony and get better acceleration off the line with a set of steeper gears. These high quality 4.10 gears from Motive will give your Mustang more pull off the line and get you into your power band faster for quicker quarters and lower ET's.

Superior Construction & Precision Fit. These Motive ring and pinon gears are CNC cut from high grade 8620 gear steel, and factory lapped for precision fit. Each set is hardness tested prior to leaving the factory to ensure the highest quality. Unlike other brands, Motive Gears do not have a reputation for "gear whine".

Recommended Upgrade. Changing the rear axle gear ratio will throw off the calibration of your Mustangs speedometer, but a Ford Racing Speedometer Recalibration Tool (94-10) is an inexpensive way to fix this issue.

Application. This Motive Performance Plus Ring and Pinion Gear set will fit all 1986 to 2012 V8 Mustangs including GT, Bullitt, Mach 1, Cobra and the 2012 V6 Mustangs equipped with the 8.8" rear end. A master bearing kit is recommended by most installers, especially on high mileage vehicles, see drop down option above.

Attention 2010 and newer Mustang Owners. Starting in 2010 Ford changed the inner rear gear pinion bearing in all 8.8" equipped Mustangs. Because of this you will require a new 8.8" rear gear pinion bearing (Ford part# 9L3Z-4630-A) for proper installation, please see drop down option above.

Technical Note. Installation costs will vary, but a good rule of thumb is between $250 and $300. Be sure to work with a reliable shop that you trust for installations. You can also save money on your installation labor by having your Trac-Lok rebuilt at the same time as your gears are installed. A master bearing kit is recommended by most installers, especially on high mileage vehicles, see drop down option above.

    Plan First...

These 4.10 gears from Motive were the third modification I had done to my GT. The difference in acceleration was very noticeable. One thing everyone warned me about was a drop in fuel efficiency, which I did not see. The gears allow the engine to operate at a more efficient speed, which won't really affect mileage if you keep your foot out of it.Another common misconception is a drop in "top speed." That is totally false. Your top achievable speed will actually increase now that the engine will be operating at a slightly higher rpm. Sure, the top redline speed is lowered to 156, but unless you can run 8's in the 1/4 mile, you have nothing to worry about. These gears did have a little bit of whine, mostly heard when no load was placed on them (coasting). Unless you hear excessive whine (almost like a loud hum heard at all times), you have nothing to worry about. I recommend you give these gears a couple of heat/cool cycles before putting the pedal to the floor. That hardens them up.Lastly, plan things out before you get 4.10s. For an N/A Mustang, they provide a good increase in acceleration at the cost of 500 rpms. If you plan on supercharging your Mustang, I urge you to consider 3.73s. Overall these are a very good set of gears, and ideal for most Mustang owners. I recommend purchasing the differential bearing kit with these gears.
