Description
Improves Handling. Improve the sloppy handling of your Mustang by replacing those old worn out, stock factory rubber bushings with a brand new set of Prothane Upper Strut Tower Bushings for more responsive handling and better overall driving performance.

Polyurethane Construction. Prothane bushings are made from a polyurethane material which is far superior than standard rubber. Polyurethane is unique in that it has the elasticity properties of rubber combined with the durability of metal, making it ideal for suspension bushings.

Application. This pair of Prothane Mustang Upper Strut Tower Bushings are designed for use on all 1983 to 2004 Mustangs, including the LX, V6, GT, Bullitt, Mach 1 and the SVT Cobra models.

Q & A (2 Questions, 5 Answers) Ask a Question

Are these necessary/work with Steeda caster camber plates? I currently have Steeda caster camber plates on my car and have a lot of poping and noise when turning the wheel and when encountering uneven surfaces (parking lots, man hole covers, etc.,). This condition have become quite bad; however, the car now has 166,000 miles. This condition did not start when the caster/camber plates were installed; however, I did have a sever "pop" when I hit a pothole once the c/c plates were installed.

  • somewhereinTexas Yes, these will work with Steeda caster plates. However, before I did anything with a vehicle that makes front end noise. I would completely check it out or have a qualified front end person check it out for worn or damaged parts. Duke 7

  • theonehander These bushings are for the front strut tower, that you see when you open your hood. You are looking for upper rear shock bushings. These usually come with a new set of shocks, so there is no need to replace these with standard style shocks. However, if you have specialty style shocks, like coil over rear shocks from Chaise Works or something similar that cost $200 each. Then I would contact that company. Duke 7

    Exellent product

I'm very please with these strut tower bushing. With my old stock bushing when the strut was unbolted from the actual wheel/spindle you could grab the struts and they had a lot of movement. With these new bushing install when I tried to move the sturt it wouldn't budge. Definitely helped with the sloppy handling in my 96 cobra. Very strong part. Only part that was tricky was that you actually have to grind the old rubber bushing off of the cover on the top of the strut and the directions didn't explain that clearly. Other than that exellent product thanks AM

    Great set of bushings

I recently replaced all the bushing, springs, and shocks on my 2000 GT. These are a must have if your going to be replacing shocks or just want a great bushing over factory spec. The front end is much tighter and handling increased greatly. I couldn't have done it without getting these bushings and American Muscle.

    Strut Bushings

These prothane bushings are really worth the money. Excellent quality replacement for either worn/cracked strut tower rubber bushings or even as in my case 170k+ old ones. Was able to do myself but NOTE: does require modification to the existing oem strut assembly. Hardest part of entire installation and the reason I rated fit a "4" was removing the rubber bushing from the very bottom strut housing was annoyingly difficult. Without a dremel or in my case a bench grinder, it could have been even more ridiculous and time consuming. Also - be sure to take everything off and back on in sequence, otherwise it can look a little tricky for a novice/amateur/backyard mechanic, not impossible but did leave me scratching my head... especially before I figured out I needed to actually physically remove the bushing, not just set the other one on top of the existing one ;)

    Better than stock

I needed some bushings to tighten the front end to match the rearend control arms and these did the trick. Handling is far superior than the original rubber style and the car is now more responsive. Installation was a snap.

    Installation Tip

Much stiffer than the stock bushings. Easy to install. The only thing to note is that I had a little trouble getting the strut nut back onto the threads because this product does not compress easily. I discovered that it is best to seat the upper bushing into the camber/caster plate with a hammer or a mallet. This will allow you to easily get the nut started onto the threads. With this little trick the second side went in very quickly!

Installing Prothane Upper Strut Tower Bushings

The Prothane bushings are very much stiffer than the OEM. They take a little work to install; you have to cut the old bushing off the strut cover, but it's not hard. I cut the old bushing off with a box cutter and ground down the remaining rubber with a belt sander. After I figured out how to do it it went pretty quickly and I am very happy with the results.
