Merideth: What's up, guys? Merideth with americanmuscle.com, and today we're checking out the PowerStop Z23 Evolution Sport Brake, Rotor, and Pad Kit for the front fitting all 2015 and newer GT Mustangs without the performance pack and EcoBoost with the performance pack. Now, brake maintenance is a job that you'll eventually have to do, especially if you are taking your Mustang to the track occasionally or just doing any spirited street driving. Now, this kit here will be a perfect replacement and upgrade specifically for daily driving and lighter performance applications, making it a great step up from the factory style options without going overboard if you don't necessarily need it.Included in the kit will be two rotors as you see here, and the Z23 pads that will give you that extra stopping power that you may need. Now, while this does increase your braking performance, the brakes will remain very comfortable due to the no noise design and will also keep your wheels cleaner for longer with minimal brake dust, which is a huge bonus to cut down on wheel cleaning maintenance. Now, in addition to the brakes offering vital benefits, the rotors do as well with the vented, drilled, and slotted features and the factory style veining, and that's going to keep the system running much cooler compared to other entry level options. Now, the slotting will also be essential in cleaning the surface of any dust or gases to keep contact optimal with the brake pad and the rotor and keeping your braking more effective. Now, getting into the construction, starting off with the rotors, these will have a premium cast iron design with a zinc-coated exterior to hold up to weathering very well and keep from rusting on the surface of the rotor. Now, the rounded slots and the beveled drill holes will also be precise to make sure that your braking is efficient like I mentioned before and, of course, add that sharp appearance to your Mustang. The pads will have a carbon fiber ceramic compound which will be tough and resist excessive wear over time, even with that spirited driving that I mentioned, and will also have a dual rubberized shim on the back to keep the brake noise to a minimum. Now, the kit will also come with everything you need for the install, including all the stainless hardware, as well as the grease for the back of the pad so there's no questioning the kit when it comes time to putting it on your ride. Now, this kit for just the front will come in at about $300, making this one of the more affordable choices available in the category. Now, like I mentioned, this is a mid tier kit when it comes to the performance, intentionally for that hybrid driver, which in turn doesn't skyrocket that price point, which is a big benefit. Now, this also is just for the front, which allows you the ability to customize your brake setup as a whole and save you some money if you are on a separate maintenance schedule. I also just think if you're looking for a bump in performance compared to the factory replacement choices but don't need an advanced track-ready setup, then this is gonna be a fantastic option for you.Install will be a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter and should take you about two hours to get the job done. I do wanna mention that when you are putting this system on that you will need to use the lubricant in the kit to spread it across the back of the brake pad for proper installation. Now, speaking of the install, one of our customers here has put this on their Mustang and is going to walk you through what that process looks like step by step. So that is going to wrap it up for me. Let's go ahead and get into the install. Now, for install, you will need some basic hand tools, including a breaker bar and a ratchet, a 15-millimeter socket, and an 8-millimeter wrench, a small extension, some pliers, a flathead, and a hammer to loosen up the rotor if you have to, as well as a wire brush to get rid of some of that rust. Now, it is also important that you have some brake cleaner on hand with a rag to clean the rotors before popping them on. It will also help you if you have a brake bleeder tool on hand, but if you don't and you do open up that bleed screw to push the piston back into place when getting those pads out, I do recommend to bleed your brakes and add some fluid once you're finished.Male Speaker: To start, we're gonna remove the brake caliper, but we're gonna turn the wheel to the left to get behind it. We're gonna use a breaker bar to get behind the caliper here and remove that bolt right there. Broken loose. It's broken loose. Now we're just using the smaller wrench with 15-millimeter on it to get them off. Remove the caliper now. Just set it in an area that the brake line isn't gonna be mangled, stretched, or anything so that you don't mess up your brake lines. Now you're free to get to your rotor, but to get the rotor off, which might be stuck on there, you're gonna wanna grab a hammer and grab the whole rotor, and then you'll be able to remove the rotor. So there's rust on the part where your rotor goes on. Just get a wire brush and wanna clean off that rust so your new rotors have a good flat surface to sit on the new rotor compared to the old rotor. What you're gonna wanna do is grab some cleaner and clean off the surface of the rotor for any oils that they used to pack it and get it all nice and clean. And you wanna do the same thing with the back of the rotor, same cleaner all around. Wipe down with the towel nice and clean, free of any oils that'll mess up your braking. And now you can take your rotor, make sure you see this front passenger side, put it on. Might help to put one of the lug nuts on in case it moves just so it stays in place while you're putting your caliper back on and everything.Make sure it doesn't move. There we go. And we can take our caliper and set it back in place. Then we'll just take one of the screws, put it back there so as to hold the caliper in place onto your rotor spindle. The caliper attaches to the spindle. So we're gonna wanna tighten these bolts up. And then once you get them tight with a wrench and 15-millimeter, you're gonna wanna torque it back up to spec, which on this car is 85 foot-pounds. You can go ahead and torque and torque it back up to spec. The brake pad's out, this little clip in the back. Set that there. And there's slide pins. Sometimes they're a little crusty, so I'm gonna fight them out. Sometimes you need a pair of pliers. Stubborn, sometimes you have to pull them. And we'll lube those up really good. Once those are out, this little piece retaining clip will pop out too. Then we're gonna press the pistons back into the calipers so we have room for the new pads. It's an 8-millimeter. Break it loose and have it. Then you use little brake bleeder tool so you don't spill all over the place. Then you can break it loose. Use a screwdriver and just pry gently between the rotor and the pad and it will shove the fluid back into place. You may do the inside ones just the same. Sometimes you have to go back and forth a little bit each side, makes it all the way seated. Just lots of room in there for the new pads. The pad's out, both inside and outside. Before we put them in there, we wanna make sure the slides where the pads slide on are nice and clean. Get all the crap out of them. Old brake dust. Now we put a new pad in.Now we have new pads. And we should have made sure the squealers go towards the top and on the inside. The first pad, slide in there, and the second pad, line them up so that the holes are there. I like to put a little grease on the caliper slide pins just to make them easier to go in. And everything kind of moves a little better when they're greased. And we put the bottom one in, all the way in, nice and easy like. Take our little retaining spring, and make sure it's over the top of that one all the way in. And then the new retaining clips supplied by the company. And there's little tiny holes that they go into on each, the top and the bottom. And this goes into a hole on the caliper. [inaudible 00:11:06.600] pins. I need to use some pliers to rotate the pins so that everything sets in through that little hole in the back of the caliper housing. Once all that's done, you're ready to put your wheel back on. Make sure you take your lug nut off if you use the lug nut to hold it in place.Merideth: So that's gonna wrap it up for my review and the install of this PowerStop Z23 Evolution Sport Brake, Rotor, and Pad Kit for the front fitting all 2015 and newer GT Mustangs without the performance pack and EcoBoost with the performance pack. And you can find this right here at americamuscle.com.

      Description

More Stopping Power. PowerStop Z23 Evolution Stop Brake Rotor & Pad Kit makes updating your Mustang’s brakes fast, easy and affordable. This is achieved by cleverly matching their cross-drilled & slotted rotors with their ceramic pads together for that big brake feel without sacrificing drivability.

Construction. Components in this PowerStop Z23 Evolution Stop Brake Rotor & Pad Kit are precision machined, molded and carefully slotted for a perfect fit in your Mustang. Rotors are manufactured from G3000-grade castings with zinc dichromate plating, which prevents rust and corrosion.

Cross-drilled and Slotted Rotors. Rounded slots help sweep away dust, keeping a constant clear patch on the rotor surface for safe, smooth braking. Drilled holes allow for maximum cooling to keep your brake temperature down during extreme conditions.

Z23 Evolution Stop Ceramic Pads. PowerStop Z23 Evolution Stop Pads features a premium carbon-ceramic compound that has 20% more stopping power than your stock pads. Evolution pads offer a uniform friction density throughout the pad, making it durable thanks to OE positive molding technology.

Low Dust and Noise Pads. Carbon-metallic construction means that these pads produce significantly less dust. They also produce less noise than your stock pads thanks to their high-quality rubberized shims.

Easy Installation. This PowerStop Z23 Evolution Stop Brake Rotor & Pad Kit is a direct bolt-on upgrade without the need to make any modifications.

Backed by a 3 Year/36,000-Mile Limited Warranty. The PowerStop Brake Rotor and Pad Kit is covered by a 3 Year/36,000-mile limited warranty. It doesn’t cover failures of components due to disc thickness variation (DTV) or normal wear. For more information on this coverage, please visit the manufacturer’s website.

Application. This PowerStop Z23 Evolution Stop Brake Rotor & Pad Kit is designed to fit all 2015-2023 Standard GT and EcoBoost Mustangs with Performance Pack.
