Hey guys, it's Sarah with americanmuscle.com, and today we have a review and install the PowerStop Z26 Street Warrior Brake Pad and Rotor Kit for the rear fitting your '15 and newer Mustang EcoBoost V6 and GT. This is perfect for the Mustang owner who wants to replace their brake pads and rotors in the rear and wants an upgrade over OEM. This kit was designed for daily driving or street use and improves your braking performance minimizing fade, thanks to the drilled and slotted rotors and carbon ceramic pads. The cross drilled and slotted rotors keep your brakes cool and clean and the carbonate ceramic pads give you that added pad bite thanks to the harder compound brake pad than factory. Now, keep in mind you will get the most performance out of doing a full kit rather than just the rear. Now, PowerStop offers lots of options for your Mustang ranging from an OE replacement kit all the way up to a track day setup. Now, this Z26 kit is gonna be one step under that track day option. It's definitely gonna get you more performance than an OE replacement kit would without going through the full track day setup. Now, keep in mind the pads in this kit, because they're one step under the track day, are gonna be quite a bit harder than your OEM. So, you may see some additional noise, but that's definitely the trade off for the added braking performance. So, as far as price goes, this kit comes in at around $175 which will run you a bit more than an OE a replacement would. And for your money, you're getting the upgraded components to deliver more braking power. I'm giving this install a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. It features directive bolt-up installation and can be done within two hours. So, with that said, let's jump into our install. For this install you will need a ratchet, an 18-millimeter ratcheting wrench, a 14-millimeter socket, a small extension, the tool to twist in the rear caliper and a caliper hanger tool. All right, so the first step for the uninstall for the rear is to grab a 14-millimeter socket and remove both the bolts at the back of the caliper. All right, with our 14-millimeter socket remove both the bolts holding on the caliper. Then you can wiggle the caliper loose and remove it off of the bracket and pads. We're gonna grab a caliper hanger tool and hang it out of the way...careful not to put tension on either the brake line or the e-brake cable. All right, for these caliper bracket bolts, they're kind of in a area with not a lot of space, so we're using an 18-millimeter ratcheting wrench. You can use a socket and a ratchet as well. But this one is pretty long, we can get a good amount of torque on it to be able to crack it loose. So, we're gonna leave that one in a tiny little bit so we can pull out the bottom one, and we're not fighting with the bracket trying to release. All right, remove the bolts and then remove the bracket off your car. All right, so the rotor is pretty loose back here. If for some reason yours is not, you can tap on back right in the area where the caliper came off with a rubber mallet and then wiggle it loose and remove it off the car. All right, so with the caliper bracket off of the car, we can remove the brake pads. Go ahead and just slide them out. We're also gonna remove these clips as well. They have new clips in the kit so it definitely doesn't hurt to upgrade these. You can use your hands or a flathead as well. Just pry them off. And just take a look at this area underneath here. You may want to clean it up so the new clips will go over nicely. Grab your new clips, line them up over top of your caliper bracket, and press them into place. Now you can grab your brake pads, slide them in here. It helps to angle them and then turn them a little bit into place. Make sure you're leaving room for the rotor to go in the middle and the one with the filler is one on the back. All right, now we can finish up our install. All right, so now that we have our factory pads and rotors uninstalled for our Mustang, we can check them out side by side with our PowerStop kit. Now, the most obvious difference right here is our drilled and slotted rotor which is going to help keep our brakes cool and clean as I said before. In addition, a little bit less noticeable is the carbon ceramic compound of our brake pads, which are gonna be a much harder compound and give you more braking performance than the pads on your factory setup. They also include the clips for your brake pads, which are nice to have and really complete the install. So, with that said, let's finish it up.All right, so now we can install a rotor. Keep in mind these are directional. So, you wanna make sure you're grabbing the proper side. We have the driver side here. And also you wanna spray it down front and back with a little bit of brake clean just to clean off the oils that come on it from the factory. Once you've done that, go ahead and line up the rotor overtop of your studs and I like to throw on a lug nut just to make sure it stays in place while we finish up our install. All right, so now we can install the brake pads that we just put into our caliper bracket overtop of the rotor. Go ahead and reinstall your factory hardware. Grab your 18-millimeter ratcheting wrench or socket and tighten these down. All right, so at this point we need to spin the piston into the caliper. Now, this is not like the push-in style. This is a little diffrent, a little more tedious to do. So, we're gonna grab this tool. It looks like a little block, it has pins on it, and it helps us twist the piston into the caliper. We're going clockwise in order to tighten it in. We're using a ratchet and an extension. You definitely do not wanna use impact for this job. It's pretty delicate and you wanna go slow, make sure it's twisting in nice and evenly. You just wanna go as far as you need to in, in order to clear the new brake pads because they're quite a bit fatter than your worn out ones. We'll go right about as flush as we can get, then go ahead and line up the caliper overtop of our brake pads.Grab the factory hardware and thread it back in. This is a good time to take a look at your sliders, your rubber boots, make sure everything is in good working condition. And if not, while you have everything apart, you wanna consider replacing it. Once you have both of those bolts in, grab your 14-millimeter socket and tighten these down. All right, so once you're complete with this side, you wanna repeat that process on the other side. Make sure once you're jumping in your Mustang, you pump the brakes to seat the calipers to the new brake pads and make sure you have a nice stiff brake pedal before you drive anywhere. But that is gonna do it for the review and install this kit. And remember for all things Mustang, keep it at americanmuscle.com.
