Increase In Performance.   Bolting on a Pypes V6 True Dual Exhaust Kit to a stock 1998 to 2004 V6 will yield an increase of 15 to 25 more horsepower! This Pypes V6 True Dual Exhaust Kit includes both the off-road X-Pipe and Cat-Back needed to give your Mustang an impressive throaty V8 sound and increase in rear wheel horsepower.

Turndown Tips. The Pypes V6 True Dual Exhaust Conversion kit is designed with tips that turn down under the rear bumper, similar to the 1987 to 1993 GT, so no cutting or modifications are required to the stock V6 rear bumper cover.

Track-ready X-Pipe design.   Pypes designed this system with an off road x-pipe to eliminate the power hogging catalytic converter from the horsepower and torque equation. For street use, consider installing the Pypes V6 True Dual Exhaust Catted Kit.

Quality Materials. Both the off-road X-Pipe and Cat-Back are constructed from mandrel bent 2.5" 409 stainless steel. The X-Pipe features welded reinforcement plates for additional strength and the Dual Cat-Back features Pypes Street-Pro 3-chamber mufflers for an aggressive throaty sound.

Application.   The Pypes V6 True Dual Exhaust Kit is specifically designed to fit on any 1998 to 2004 3.8L or 3.9L V6 Mustang for more power and a more aggressive sound. Intended for off-road use, does not include catalytic converters. Technical Note: May require the use of O2 Sensor Extensions for proper installation. Some cutting to the flow tubes is required.

Ask a Question

What catalytic converter will fit on these exhaust pipes?

Mike

  • You can always add in the Pypes High Flow Ceramic Catalytic Converter Kit (86-10 All), item # 20036, (http://www.americanmuscle.com/pypes-ceramic-catalytic-converter.html). In order to install these, you will need to do some cutting and possibly welding. There will not be room to just bolt these up between the X-Pipe and the headers. For an easier route, I suggest getting the Pypes True Dual Catted Exhaust - Turndown Tips (98-04 V6), item # 20113, (http://www.americanmuscle.com/pypes-dual-conversion-turndowns-9404v6.html). This Exhaust Kit is exactly the same as the Off-Road except it has been cut the correct length for the catalytic converters.

Question Resolved

Is there any reason this won't fit a v8? I'm doing a GT clone on my v6, but want to be subtle about it (i.e, no bumper cutouts, no badges, etc...)

Cerberus

  • The piping size on a V6 is going to be smaller than a V8 and the exhaust will be routed slightly different towards the motor. This kit may have to be modified to work correctly with your setup.

Will this exhaust fit a 1996 V6 mustang?

bogie

  • This exhaust will not fit a 1996 V6 Mustang as the piping size is going to be smaller than those that would fit on a 1996 V6. If you were to try to make it would, it would need custom modifications to be used correctly.

    Idle sounds nice but .....

Installation took about 4 hours, a total of 4 jack stands used, and 3 jacks. Uninstalling the stock pipes were easy until i got to the cat back. I couldn't pull it out so i got lazy and cut the old pipe off. There is Probably a easy way but w/e. Had only 1 issue while mounting the rear driver side tail pipe the hanger didn't reach the mount so i had to buy a hanger from oreillys and modify it. Over all no welding was needed. Idle sounds TERRIFIC but when you hit 5 grand you have the HIGH PITCH BUZZZ sound LIKE A HONDA :( i don't think open chamber mufflers were a good idea for this kit. I was kind of disappointing having 2 friends with V8s straight piped. It totally has it's own sound as far as the raspyness i wish i could get rid of it. :( When you floor it it has a quick high pitch ZINNNNNG/rasp. But over all i guess it doesn't sound to bad. and my car can finally BREATH. SO far i have the diablo tune, SR cold air intake, Borg Warner performance ignition coil, plat plugs and Borg Warner wires and now i have a duel exhaust. I may be experimenting with different mufflers to get rid of the raspy sound

    Great system but..

I love the way the new exhaust sounds, it really comes alive at 3500 rpm. I have a 2000 v6 manual and it revs a lot easier and you can definitely feel the extra power. The one issue I have with the system is the fitment. To get everything on the tips had to sit at a bit of an angle, and the hanger on the passenger tailpipe is poking through to my bumper because of this I can't give this 5 stars, but overall it's a great exhaust and I would absolutely buy this product. Thanks AM. ps you will need to get a set of MIL eliminators to avoid a check engine code for running rich.

    off road pypes

Good looking pypes, not that easy to install on your back, but I got it done.Put shorty headers on first then put on the rest front to back got it all on and had to take it to a shop for them to weld them and make some adjustments. looks good and sounds nice my wife loves the sound when I get on it going down the road. Car is a lot better running now it brought it to live with all the modes I did to it.Plus I plan on taking it to the drags want to see my improvement at work.

    Very impressed

Overall the exhaust is amazing. Installation was a little difficult even though I had an extra helper and I had access to a shop to do it on a hoist. The exhaust fit together well EXCEPT the two tail pipe hangers that sit under your rear bumper did not fit the exhaust hangers properly SO I had to cut the hangers off of the tailpipe and re-weld them back on in a location where they would slid into the hanger under the bumper properly. Other than that, it fit good. I also LOVE the sound of this exhaust. It has a very personalized sound. It grows down low, but then the top end sound peaks very high and the power gain is amazing. The power keeps gaining all the way until red line. I love the product.

    Great Exhaust!!!

I bought this exhaust just last week and it took me and a couple of my friends a weekend to put in, the only thing i didn't like was i wished the hangers would attach from the muffle as it is now the pipes are sitting like 2 inches off the ground but i'm bringing it to a local muffle shop soon, overall its really loud and it turns heads and in a weekend I've had three people ask it was a V8, good system defiantly recommend

    Eleanor's exhaust.

Slightly universal. After measuring and cutting the exhaust system to fit my car it went together rather well. Important note be sure to mount the clamps sideways or upside down to avoid scraping the pavement. It does hang a little low.

    Loud and raspy

Bought this exhaust seemed like a good deal. Instalation took about 4 hours wasnt too hard taking old exhaust out went and bought new bolts, washers and nuts for the exhaust manifold flanges, went in peice by peice one of the tail pipe hangers didnt quit align but it was an easy fix to get it to fit properly. Gonna be taking my car in to get the exhaust raised up a bit cause it sits 2" off the ground. Sounds really awesome at idle and low rpm but higher rpm is super raspy definately a unique sound can be heard from blocks away.

    Pypes True Dual Off-Road Exhaust

The product was really easily put together, am not really happy with the actual muffler , too much cab noise . Will be replacing mufflers with something a little tamer, over all nice system

    Leave It To The Experts!

took my system to an exhaust shop in town.everything is tucked up nice and neat and away from drive shaft.they did an outstanding job. i have a cammed v6 that makes my Pypes system with Pace Setter headers sound angry. even at higher rpm i think it sounds good.i get accused of having a v8 all the time. (they think the 3.8 high performance badge on the back is bs) i like the turn down tips over the GT look because it is a v6 and i want to stay true to that. its a great system for the money but if you don't install exhaust systems for a living then i wouldn't take on this task.

    Don't waste your money

This has got to be the most ill-fitting, poorly made exhaust system I have ever installed. And I've installed JC Whitney exhaust systems. I don't think these people have ever even looked underneath a Mustang. None of the hangars were properly positioned. I've got more baling wire holding the thing up than anything else. The bolts holding the flow tubes to the X-pipe were way to short, so I had to buy new hardware. The whole right side sits way closer to the driveshaft than I'm comfortable with. The mufflers sound HORRIBLE!!! It's a Mustang, not a souped-up Civic. There's another $100 for some good Cherry Bombs. And the whole thing hangs just a few inches off the ground so it drags every time I hit a bump. And the thing that really irritates is when I decided to replace the O2 sensors, just 2 weeks after installing the exhaust, both upstream sensors had to be removed with an impact. Which stripped the threads. Which meant another $140 for a heli-coil repair kit for the sockets. AND THEY BOTH SCREWED IN JUST FINE, smooth as a baby's backside. I'm also looking at about $250 dollars to my local exhaust shop for modifications to make everything fit right. The only good thing I can say about this system is the performance increase was impressive. Don't waste your money on this. Just take your car to a shop and have it custom made, you'd be money ahead. And if they give you any grief about cats, haul it in on a trailer and tell them your building a dirt track car.
