Radiator ext. covers ~ the good and the bad

True, when you raise the hood these look great, cleaning up the engine compartment. However, the fit isn't that good. It can be modified, sure, but for the price that shouldn't be necessary in my opinion.

Radiator Extension Covers Will these fit a 2007 Shelby GT,do they have a cutout for the shelby CSM # drivers side. If not can you cut one in?

bruno Year: 2007 Model: GT

Good Question (0) (0)
  • bruno, no there is no cut out on the extensions, but since they are made of a high grade thermoplastic, a few "sharp" razors and a lot of patience, you can cut what you need into them. bulldog

If the cover works with Ford Racing Cold Air Intake? I'm looking to add the Ford Racing 85MM Cold Air Intake later on after I add these.... Would the cover of the intake, cover the driver side panel?

Saber Year: 2008 Model: GT

Good Question (0) (0)
  • Saber, I am afraid that it would. The bolt that attaches the bracket that the ABS module sets in has to be removed and replaced with a stud. That puts the mounting of the cold air intake right where the left side extension would go.Might be able to work around it,but would have to do some modification to the cover.Hope i helped a little.Redchuckb

Answer This Question

Will these fit with CAI kits? Wanting to know if these extension cover will, fit on my 2006 Roush Mustang, with the Roush Cold Air Intake kit installed, with out modifying covers? If they need modifying, I will wait till the plain black plastic becomes available.

Radiator ext. covers ~ the good and the bad

    August 25, 2011

True, when you raise the hood these look great, cleaning up the engine compartment. However, the fit isn't that good. It can be modified, sure, but for the price that shouldn't be necessary in my opinion. I've ordered $5770 worth from AM and have always been super pleased over these past 4 years, but the covers could've been made to fit better. 1st, why have a hole that goes to nowhere. You have to drill a new hole (dead center of the raised circle) to attach the back bolt to the headlight support. 2nd, I'd pay an extra $10 to not have the cutout for the hood prop. For us that have hood shocks, that cutout takes away from the overall look. 3rd, the gap that joins the OEM radiator cover isn't consistant. Passenger side is good, drivers side much wider and doesn't run true. And 4th, the fit around the front of the headlights looks terrible when standing 6 feet back facing the car. I've read where guys have used spacers to eliminate that problem which I'll try, but again, for $70 they should fit better and not have to be fabricated. AM is still and always will be the best, and can't wait for my next order. Sorry this review is so lengthy.

Easy Install and Should Have Came Factory!

    September 02, 2011

These should have came factory as it does clean up the engine bay completing the front and covering the bare headlight housings. You will need to plug for hole of not using prop rod but worth the clean look these give. I went unpainted to go with stock radiator cover. May paint eventually if I decide to airbrush it in the future as these are paintable.

    Looks Good

    June 15, 2010

Easy install even with the hood prop. With the right tools and good measurements you can use your hood prop. Mine looks like it was made for it, they should design one for the hood prop.

    Not Factory Finish

    May 01, 2012

The black on these is not the same pebbled factory finish, but it matches close enough after applying some Armourall. They seem to be a little warped - I added some screws to keep them flat.

2007 convertible radiator extension covers - vista blue

    October 11, 2011

They look great, however my husband had to by velcro to keep the outside corners down. They are only installed by one screw on the inside, which leave the outside possiblly rubbing against the hood. The velcro works great to hold down the outer edges. This way if he need to remove/repair anything below or behind, the piece can be easily removed.

Great looking addition but instruction are not too clear

    July 26, 2011

I just installed mine and noticed no one is fastening these at the rear. I was going to use 2 way tape but here is a better way. Use a standard square license plate plastic nut and push it into the larger round hole in the radiator support (under the AM painted panel rear clearance hole). Use the supplied bolts to snug it up in the front and the rear. Do not over tighten it, it is only plastic. Fit and finish is great. Thanks AM, I will post a pic ASAP.

    Makes the compartment complete

    March 01, 2014

These covers complete the engine compartment. Ford should have added as original equipment. Only really thought about this after installing. Cleans up the area nicely. Fit is ok. The gap between the rad cover and these are a little wider than than I would have liked. Overall I am happy with these.

    worth it

    April 07, 2012

these are a great looking add ons to help make the engine bay look clean...the ones i got however were not the best fit to say the least. I restore classic mustangs and if you have ever done work on an old stang you know alot of aftermarket parts dont really fit to well...well this was worse then most of those parts...i knew since i have a ford racing intake that i was going to have to customize the driver side but the passenger side was just as bad to get to fit just right. they did not come with a way to fasten them in the back so had to get some fasteners so they wouldn't flap around...all in all i would still get them again they do spoof up the under hood alot. install took maybe 48 minutes but like i said i made one custom
