Review & Install Video

Hey, I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, here with a great accent piece to the engine bay in any S197 Mustang, thanks to these OE style radiator cover extensions fitting all 05-09 Mustangs. As you’re probably well aware, the factory rad cover in your S197 covers just the radiator itself, and doesn’t extend all the way to the fenders, like the 2010 and newer covers do, which can leave an unfinished appearance. That’s where these extensions come in. These OE style extensions extend the factory rad cover all the way down to the fenders which covers up all that dead space over the headlights, basically making for a much cleaner appearance underneath the hood. The extensions are molded from a high impact plastic for superior durability, and a factory like fit and finish. As for the install, this is honestly as easy as it gets. If you follow the included instructions and use the two included bolts, you should have no problem getting this job done in about 15 minutes. If you’re looking for a small part that can go a long way in cleaning up your engine bay, then be sure to check out these OE style radiator cover extensions available right here at AmericanMuscle.com

If the cover works with Ford Racing Cold Air Intake? I'm looking to add the Ford Racing 85MM Cold Air Intake later on after I add these.... Would the cover of the intake, cover the driver side panel?

Saber

  • Saber, I am afraid that it would. The bolt that attaches the bracket that the ABS module sets in has to be removed and replaced with a stud. That puts the mounting of the cold air intake right where the left side extension would go.Might be able to work around it,but would have to do some modification to the cover.Hope i helped a little.Redchuckb

Like most aftermarket products, these need a little help. Needed to line up and drill two bolt holes to hold down rear of each panel using existing bolts. Simply mark holes using peanut button on tops of existing bolts, place extension cover over bolt to mark, drill and use existing bolts to hold down rear of panel. Fit also required use of heat gun to get them to sit properly. Once installed they look good and complete the engine compartment.

Radiator ext. covers ~ the good and the bad

True, when you raise the hood these look great, cleaning up the engine compartment. However, the fit isn't that good. It can be modified, sure, but for the price that shouldn't be necessary in my opinion. I've ordered $5770 worth from AM and have always been super pleased over these past 4 years, but the covers could've been made to fit better. 1st, why have a hole that goes to nowhere. You have to drill a new hole (dead center of the raised circle) to attach the back bolt to the headlight support. 2nd, I'd pay an extra $10 to not have the cutout for the hood prop. For us that have hood shocks, that cutout takes away from the overall look. 3rd, the gap that joins the OEM radiator cover isn't consistant. Passenger side is good, drivers side much wider and doesn't run true. And 4th, the fit around the front of the headlights looks terrible when standing 6 feet back facing the car. I've read where guys have used spacers to eliminate that problem which I'll try, but again, for $70 they should fit better and not have to be fabricated. AM is still and always will be the best, and can't wait for my next order. Sorry this review is so lengthy.

Easy Install and Should Have Came Factory!

These should have came factory as it does clean up the engine bay completing the front and covering the bare headlight housings. You will need to plug for hole of not using prop rod but worth the clean look these give. I went unpainted to go with stock radiator cover. May paint eventually if I decide to airbrush it in the future as these are paintable.

    Looks Good

Easy install even with the hood prop. With the right tools and good measurements you can use your hood prop. Mine looks like it was made for it, they should design one for the hood prop.

    Makes the compartment complete

These covers complete the engine compartment. Ford should have added as original equipment. Only really thought about this after installing. Cleans up the area nicely. Fit is ok. The gap between the rad cover and these are a little wider than than I would have liked. Overall I am happy with these.

    Not Factory Finish

The black on these is not the same pebbled factory finish, but it matches close enough after applying some Armourall. They seem to be a little warped - I added some screws to keep them flat.

    worth it

these are a great looking add ons to help make the engine bay look clean...the ones i got however were not the best fit to say the least. I restore classic mustangs and if you have ever done work on an old stang you know alot of aftermarket parts dont really fit to well...well this was worse then most of those parts...i knew since i have a ford racing intake that i was going to have to customize the driver side but the passenger side was just as bad to get to fit just right. they did not come with a way to fasten them in the back so had to get some fasteners so they wouldn't flap around...all in all i would still get them again they do spoof up the under hood alot. install took maybe 48 minutes but like i said i made one custom

Review from Radiator Extension Covers - Pre-painted (05-09 GT, V6)

    nice fit

these extensions fit great, and its nice that they are drilled with 2 sets of mounting holes. The 2nd hole lines up with a hole above the headlight. To use that hole just pick up a 1/4" square nylon nut. The kind you use for licence plates. While you're there get some ford panel/trim retainers. The nylon nut fits perfectly in the hole and if you drill out the nut with a 1/4" bit the push retainers fit perfectly. That way you can secure them down with more than just the one bolt.

2007 convertible radiator extension covers - vista blue

They look great, however my husband had to by velcro to keep the outside corners down. They are only installed by one screw on the inside, which leave the outside possiblly rubbing against the hood. The velcro works great to hold down the outer edges. This way if he need to remove/repair anything below or behind, the piece can be easily removed.

Great looking addition but instruction are not too clear

I just installed mine and noticed no one is fastening these at the rear. I was going to use 2 way tape but here is a better way. Use a standard square license plate plastic nut and push it into the larger round hole in the radiator support (under the AM painted panel rear clearance hole). Use the supplied bolts to snug it up in the front and the rear. Do not over tighten it, it is only plastic. Fit and finish is great. Thanks AM, I will post a pic ASAP.

    Nice Dress-up Item

These really do dress-up and finish the front section of the engine bay, and the paint match was spot on. The right side extension on my set did not fit as well as the left - the plastic itself had some waviness to it. It also did not lay flat at the rear edge, so I used a small zip-tie to make it lay flatter. No big deal. Overall, I am pleased with the look.

Review from Radiator Extension Covers - Pre-painted (05-09 GT, V6)

    really cleans up front end

I've been meaning to buy these for a long time, and I'm glad that I finally purchased them. They really clean up the front end. They hide all of the ground wires and top of the headlights. This particular set even has a cutout for the hood prop, so they're perfect if you don't have hood struts just yet. Under the hood, it gives the front end a smoother look from fender to fender. Speaking of smooth, that's my one complaint. The texture isn't smooth, but it's no where near the same as the factory radiator cover as it says in the product description. I guess that helps if you want to paint them, but my car is black so there was no need. That being said, there's enough difference in texture that it's very obvious that they do not match at all. Because of all the ground wire mounts, they also don't sit flush and line up exactly right, particularly on the passenger side. I moved a couple of the ground wires and played with them until I got them lined up pretty good. All in all, I'm happy with my purchase and I'd recommend them to anyone that likes a clean look under the hood.

    Painted radiator extension covers

The covers are very nice and easy to install. If the 2 bolts(4 included)doesn't hold as you would like, double sided 3M tape will hold very well, instead of drilling 2 additional holes. Overall, a nice dress up.

    Extension Covers

I was some what disapointed in this. There was not a hole for where the screw was to go. My friend had to drill a hole for it. I called American Muscle on this & was told to use velcro to hold it in place. For $119,00 I did not expect that. Have orderd things before & always been pleased with items. Jan Weatherford

    Made well and fits good..

I found these pieces to be very sturdy and well made. They are very easy to install and fit well. I painted mine myself and they turned out great. If you are not to fimiliar with prepping and painting parts especially plastic, I suggest you should buy the pre-painted ones. I found them a little pricey for plastic pieces but they do make a nice clean, finished look to the radiator.
