How to Replace a Halogen Headlamp on a Fifth Generation Mustang (2010-2014)

Step 1: Pull the hood release cable located on the interior of the car. The release is located on the far driver’s side, below the dash. Once released, unlatch and open the hood, resting it in the open position with the factory hood prop.

Step 2: Locate the headlight bulb release tabs on the backside of the Bulbs. These bulbs are at the far corners of the radiator support, where the support meets the fenders. (Figure 1&2)

Step 3: Twist the tabs ¼ turn counter clockwise to release the bulb from the housing. Once turned, pull straight back on the bulb, and remove it from the housing.

CAUTION: BE CAREFUL TO LEAVE THE RED RUBBER O-RING UNDISTURBED. IF IT DOES FALL OUT, MAKE SURE TO REINSTALL IT INTO THE HOUSING, OR REPLACE IF NECESSARY.

Step 3: unplug the headlight bulb from the electrical harness by pressing the release tab on the connector. (Figure 3 & 4) Properly dispose of the old headlight bulb. 

(Use care when handling the bulbs!)

CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN HANDLING THE NEW HEADLIGHT BULB. TO INSURE 100% PERFORMANCE OUT OF THE BULB, KEEP THE GLASS OF THE BULB FREE OF DIRT, DEBRIS, AND FINGERPRINTS. IF THE BULB IS NOT CLEAN, CAREFULLY WIPE THE DEBRIS AWAY WITH RUBBING ALCOHOL ON A PAPER TOWEL.

Step 1: carefully insert the new headlight bulb straight into the housing, and twist the bulb ¼ turn clockwise.

Step 2: Lightly tug on the bulb handling tabs in a backward manner to insure proper fit. The bulb should be free of any play in either direction, and should have a very snug fit into the housing.

Step 3: reinstall the electrical harness connector to the back of the headlight bulb.

Step 4: Turn the ignition key to the accessory position, and turn on headlights. Inspect the Headlights for operation, correct color, and light focus. Once complete, turn car ignition off and remove key.

Step 5: close the hood of the Mustang, insuring that the hood is properly latched and locked. Upon completing this swap, you should find the headlights much brighter and whiter than before!
