Hi I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is my breakdown of the SR performance short throw shifter fitting the MT-82 transmission found in all 2011 and newer 6-speed Mustangs. Before we really start getting into this SR performance shifter, I’m going to take our 2013 GT for a quick spin, so I can get a feel for the stock shifter and later compare that to the feeling of this SR performance shifter. Alright, so we’re out in our 2013 here, before we get our short shifter installed, and I’ve really been a big fan of this shifter from day 1 with the 2013, it’s got a good feel to it and for a stock car, it’s got relatively short throws, nice and firm, but when you really hammer on it sometimes, throws can get a little sloppy, I mean the actions real crunchy sometimes and I’ve actually missed a gear more times than I’d like to admit. So if the SR performance unit can make the throws a little shorter, maybe take some of that sloppiness out of it, then I’d definitely be a big fan. So with that said, let’s get our car back to the shop, get a little bit more in depth about that SR performance shifter, then get it installed. Taking a closer look at the SR performance short shifter, it’s constructed from a combination of both aluminum and steel, feels very solid overall in terms of weight. It does retain the reverse lockout function, which is a nice little safety feature, and you can reuse the stock shift knob with the shifter as well, or any aftermarket shift knob which uses a 12 by 1 ¼ thread pinch. As you can see, the general design of the SR performance shifter is very similar to other shifters on the market, but at a fraction of the price. As for your throws, you can expect to see a 25 to 30 % reduction in your throws which again isn’t quite as much as some of the other short shifters on the market today, however it’s definitely enough to notice a difference from your stock shifter. The big difference however between this shifter versus your stock shifter is the accuracy of each shift. This shifter will not only speed up each shift, but it’s also more accurate as well so you can eliminate those annoying mis-shifts. You will need to get the car a little bit up in the air just to finish this install so a set of ramps or jack-stands will suffice just fine. After getting the car in the air getting the shifter installed should only take you about an hour or less. Now that we have the SR performance shifter in place on our 2013, we’re going to get it out of the shop one more time to see if we’ve improved on our overall shifting experience. So we’re out in our 2013 GT with the SR performance shifter installed, and we’re just rolling through the gears right now, feels great, getting into the car I noticed the shifter sat about an inch or so lower than the factory shifter, not a big deal. The car is a lot easier to get into reverse, which I enjoy, because before with the stock shifter you really have to fight it to get it into reverse, not so much anymore, it just kind of goes up there without issue. It has cleaned up the experience a little bit, it’s taken some of the side to side movement out of neutral, and also while you’re in gear, but we’ll get to the biggest plus right now, the second to third mis-shift so let’s go into third right now. There you go, first through fourth, hammering on each gear, and I nailed every gear without problems whereas before, you would kind of get it into third and then you’d have to look for it a little it didn’t want to go, that is totally gone, this thing just slides into gear every time now, and that’s the biggest key with this shifter, it really does a good job, and overall, I think it’s great value. So that wraps up the SR Performance shifter, be sure to check it out right here at AmericanMuscle.com
