Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

Hey guys, Alex from americanmuscle.com, and today I'm bringing you my quick review and breakdown of the SR Performance Aluminum Cold Air Intake in black, fitting the 2005 through 2009 Mustang GT. So In this video, I'm gonna talk about who this kit's going to appeal to. The construction and materials that went into this. What you should be expecting in terms of performance. What you should expect to be spending, and then we'll take a very quick look at what's entailed to get this installed. Where I'm gonna be giving this a very easy one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and about an hours worth of labor, but I'll have a little bit more for you on that later. So the SR cold intake that I have here today should definitely appeal to any three-valve GT owner out there that no matter your intentions or what you're doing with your car, be it having just the more improved daily driver, weekend warrior, or a show car. This is definitely gonna appeal to you or any Mustang owner out there that's looking to improve your throttle response, horsepower, and torque, all while making it look that much cleaner under your hood. So not only is this gonna be a great mod for some of the aforementioned reasons here, but this is hands down one of the first modifications that most if not all car enthusiasts should throw into their car, as it's again gonna help throttle response, torque, as well as horsepower. But something that I really like about this kit is the fact that it's not gonna require a custom tune or a handheld tuner. And that's gonna be due to the fact that this sleeve right here, or essentially where your map goes is gonna be fooling your engine computer from throwing any type of codes. All right guys, so taking a look at the construction and materials here. It was evident right out of the box. This is definitely a very well-built kit despite this being a very bargain friendly option. Now, we're gonna see that this is gonna be manufactured out of aluminum which is then gonna be hit with a black wrinkle coat finish. Which is a little bit tough to see based on where you're watching this from, but it's honestly something that's very sharp. This is going to come included with absolutely everything to get this onto your car. Including the couplers, even your filter right here which I might add that this is going to be a washable and reusable option. So when it comes time, and it's a little bit on the dirty side, simply pull it out, give it a little bath, throw it back in, and you're good to go. Now one thing that I do want to mention is that with an aluminum intake in comparison to a roto-molded plastic style, it's not gonna yield as high horsepower numbers as what you might find with a plastic, and that's gonna be due to metal contracting and expanding when it heats and cools. Now at the end of the day with a three-valve GT, I would expect to be picking up high to single high numbers here. But if you're really looking to maximize your gains, I might suggest pairing this with a handheld tuner as it will yield that much more horsepower. All right guys, so in terms of the pricing here, you should expect to be spending only about 200 bucks for this kit. Which in my opinion is very aggressively priced, and is gonna be somewhat for the budget minded person out there that doesn't wanna spend an arm and a leg on a cold air intake. Now on the flip side here, if you're gonna be looking at some of the other options on the website, you're gonna see that their pricing can and will fluctuate a lot. It's gonna be based on the brand, the materials, as well as what kind of filter it's gonna come with. But at the end of the day, I really think this is gonna be a great investment for someone that's looking to pick up a little bit of horsepower, torque, throttle response, as well as make their factory intake look that much better. Okay guys, so switching gears to the installation portion of the video. Just like I had said up top. You're gonna be looking at a very straight forward one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and about an hours worth of labor to get this onto your car. Now the ease of installation is definitely a huge selling point for me, as it should be for any motorhead out there. As it doesn't matter if you're a novice wrencher, or if you're a very experienced backyard mechanic, you're not looking at anything nuts to get this on. I suggest having a full socket set, a little bit of patience, and maybe a six-pack of beer. Now I do want to mention that this is gonna be a quick glance at what's entailed to get this installed onto your GT. A couple steps might be missing, but you're gonna have a very solid set of install instructions to help you get this onto your car. But to start, you're gonna need to pull your negative battery terminal, pull a couple breather hoses and clamps from your throttle body, and then start working down to your air filter or air box portion on the car. So once you're down to your air box, you're simply gonna pull the 10-millimeter bolts, work back up to your master flow sensor. Carefully remove that, as if it's damaged, you're not gonna be a happy camper. And once everything's out, it's gonna be as simple as throwing everything back together in your car. And again, very simple one out of three in the difficulty meter. Probably around an hour to get this onto your car. All right guys, so just to wrap things up here, some final thoughts. I definitely like this option from SR based on the fact that this will be one of the most budget-friendly options that we carry on the website. Not only that, it's gonna look great under the hood, help you pick up a couple horsepower and improve your throttle response, and even make a little bit more noise under the hood. So that's my quick review and breakdown of the SR Performance Aluminum Cold Air Intake in black fitting your 2005 through 2009 Mustang GT. Available right here at americanmuscle.com

Improves Horsepower. This SR Performance Cold Air Intake kit completely replaces your GT Mustangs restrictive stock air box and paper filter element with a high flow filter assembly for a noticeable increase in horsepower and acceleration while providing filtration of harmful power robbing dust particles. The SR Performance CAI improves the airflow path into your engine creating more power.

No Tune Required. Unlike other Cold Air Intakes on the market for the 2005-2009 GT mustangs this SR Performance CAI does not require a computer re-tune. The engineers at SR Performance really did their homework to improve your pony's power using the stock tune.

Reusable Filter. Included in this kit is a SR Performance High Flow reusable air filter. So there is no need to go out and buy a new filter every few thousand miles. Just clean the filter, re-oil it, save money, and go.

Black Wrinkle Coat Finish. The SR Performance Cold Air Intake not only improves your pony's horsepower and acceleration, but improves your Mustang's under hood appearance with an aggressive baked on black wrinkle powder coat finish.

Easy Install. The SR Performance Cold Air Intake kit is designed to install easily with basic hand tools. No extra modifications or special tools are required for the installation. All parts and instructions are included.

Application. This SR Performance Cold Air Intake System is specifically designed to fit the 2005 to 2009 GT and Bullitt Mustangs equipped with the 4.6L engine and does not require re-tuning the vehicles computer for operation.

  • You can clean the filter with soap and water. Remember to rinse the filter extremely well with lower pressure water. Allow the filter to completely air dry. You do not want to install the filter while there is still water in it. As for oil for the filter, I suggest the K&N Recharge Kit. You can use most filter oiling kits with the SR Performance Filter.

  • With the SR Performance Aluminum Cold Air Intake - Polished (05-09 GT) you are looking to get about 10-15HP gain. However each car is different and the environment around you will also factor into how much HP your car gains.

  • Hello, you would have to search for a Cold Air Intake that would have a CARB EO Number, unfortunately the SR Performance Aluminum Cold Air Intake - Polished (05-09 GT) does not have a CARB EO Number, so this Cold Air Intake wouldn't be legal in California. You would have to find a Cold Air Intake like the C&L Street Cold Air Intake w/ 83mm MAF - No Tune Required (05-09 GT) http://www.americanmuscle.com/cnl-cai-0509gt.html for example. Notice how it has a CARB EO Number and it also states: "CARB Certified. Best of all, this Mustang C&L Cold Air Intake Kit is 50-state smog legal under Carb EO# D-640. Carb Certification is for models with a production date of 5/2005 or later."

  • I am sorry but the SR Performance CAI is not CARB Certified. If a product like a Cold Air Intake is CARB certified, we will list the CARB EO number under the Features and Description on the product page. Do want to make a note that, some CAIs we carry for the 2005-2009 Mustangs are only CARB for certain years. If you have a 2007 GT, the Airaid Cold Air Intake with the Sythamax Dry Filter is CARB Certified. Hope this helps!

Will it fit any aftermarket throttle body? I'm wondering if it will fit any aftermarket throttle body as well as the stock one.

    Quick and simple!

This product was fairly simple to install but was a little tricky due to the fact that it didn't come with a instruction Manual, but it wasn't that hard to figure out and I was surprised to actuly notice the HP gains! Not a bad product!

Great Product but No Instructions Provided

Good quality, was easy to install after looking at pictures on the internet. For some reason the manufacturer doesn't include instructions. You will not need the small black bracket that comes with the kit. You will discover that the PCV hose won't fit and lock due to the new angle of the inlet tube on the new piece. After careful study I slipped a long socket over the inlet tube on the engine (not the air intake inlet tube) and moved it (bent it) to match the new angle to get a proper fit. DON'T bend the inlet tube on the aluminum piece or you may breake the weld. The one on the engine valve will move either with plyers or by slipping a tube or socket over it to move it.

    Decent product.

Had a lot of trouble with the mounting shield and the tube end to the throttle body doesn't seem to fit perfectly. So I had to do without the shield, so far it doesn't seem to affect the performance. The shield seems to be to long at the bottom as it was cutting into the hose and wiring. Also I wasn't able to close the hood with the shield.

    SR performance intake

To start, I received the intake about 4 days after I ordered it, you really can't be that shipping. When the intake arrived it didn't come with any instructions which was a little frustrating but if your mechanically inclined and have an idea as to what your doing you really don't need them, fitment was easy the only problem I noticed was that the MAF sensor cable was barely long enough to reach out to the new MAF cut out. Overall this was an easy install and a good product. I also noticed a little more throttle response.

Just wanted to let you guys know at Am and everyone else out there that this product is amazing.IT took me about two hours to install with the help of my 12 year old son. You can feel the difference instantly, especially during your take off. The install was easy and the look it gives your pony under the hood, even better and they really mean it when they say no tune required. I got my intake about two months ago and till this day no check engine light has come on. Once again am does their job with another satisfied customer. If your looking for a little extra power for cheap money, I recommend this product. thanks Am.

It looks amazing on my 2006 GT and it's added a little more torque and hp as well. It's a must have for not only when you are chillin with your buddies showing off your rides and what you have under your hood but for performance as well!!

If your looking for a low priced cold air intake this is what you want. Installation time was about 30 min. The only problem was no instructions came with the intake. I was doing good till I came to the part of the plate that the air filter sets on. Went inside the house and looked at the picture on line and put it right on no proublem. Thanks AM for this intake. Also makes my 07 GT engine compartment look sharp.

    Needs instructions

Looked fairly simple, until you start putting it on. I got it on and still have a bracket & bolts left over I can only assume this was for different year models? I had to drill one of the bolt holes a little bigger since the factory bolt wouldn't pass through it. But overall it's a nice piece of "shiny" for under the hood. No difference in performance.

SR Cold Air Intake for 2005-2009 Mustang GT

Product is well made and looks very nice (see picture) once installed. No instructions provided but very straight forward and basic upgrade that you can do yourself in about an hour. I did a loose fit first on the SR intake so all the clamps and rubber tubes lined up, then tightened everything snug. Much improved and a great value at the price. Good quality item.

    Good Product, Disappointing Install/Fit

I was hoping for a relatively simple install on this product as promised, but the instructions were absolute garbage (had to watch youtube videos to figure it out) and in my opinion, the fitting should have been MUCH better. Instead of 1 hour, it took me 4 hours and two trips to AutoZone to get the Torx screwdrivers the instructions said I didn't need... With a few very minor adjustments during manufacturing, this part could have fit much better. The PCV hose is extremely tight and the connection to the heat shield feels very forced. Happy in the end, but a frustrating install.

    fitment issues,more than hour needed

The throttle body coupling is super tight fit,pcv line barely stretches(get a regular hose), hardware didnt have instructions so the bolts supplied dont make sense where to go(will need to go through fender well to reach one bolt and rubberized bolt goes from heat shield to maf pipe)...but otherwise the final fit is nice and tight all around,no codes yet like others have gotten and definitly can hear that suction when you tap the gas!! Worth the $200!

    Get what you pay for

The product is not bad, but I would not recommend it for anyone looking for much in terms of performance. The intake BARELY fit in my 2006 GT and this is the only mod I have under the hood. I think it looks nice and it even sounds pretty sick when your out for a ride. However, I did not notice much of an increase in throttle response. Overall I would probably go with an Airraid, K/n or Roush. I only purchased this because the sale was for 99$. P.S: They really should include instructions, if you lack in the common sense area you could have some trouble.
