Stack Racing Mustang Hood Strut Kit

    April 22, 2010

This strut kit works GREAT. It was nice to discard the prop rod and use these struts. Fit and work well. Very strong. Well worth the money! The directions leave a little to be desired, and measurements would could be a little more precise. Thankfully the directions are illustrated as well. You need to make sure that you have a pop rivet tool to install this kit.

    Be Careful Drilling!!!

    November 22, 2010

I installed the hood struts easy enough, but be very careful drilling the hood holes. After doing it, I'd advise folks to wrap your drill bit about 1/4" from the end all the way back. This way when drilling up into the hood you don't put small drill bit size dents in the hood of your car. The time it takes to wrap and unwrap the bit will save you from taking the car in to have 4 small "outie" dents repaired. Be careful drilling the lower holes too, the space is fairly tight where the holes need to go and it's easy for the drill chuck to hit and nick the paint. Also on the subject of drilling, drill one hole for the bracket, put the bracket in place and start the second hole. The bits have a tendancy to "walk" a bit and this will ensure your holes line up exactly. One last piece of advice would be to throw an old blanket over your fender and engine to keep the tiny metal shavings from the hood holes off your car, just be VERY careful if you don't have something large enough to cover both fenders without re-positioning the blanket so as not to put the shavings side down onto your paint. For the lower holes I'd have a second person hold a shop vac while you drill, sucking up all the shavings. The struts are pretty tight, when directed to compress them I thought I might have had defective struts at first. They require quite a bit of force to compress them which worried me, but after installing them they worked fine. I did not let go of my hood when raising it though, I didn't want it to rocket up and bounce. Hope this helps anyone looking to buy and install these.

    NICE

    July 02, 2010

Looks great. Easy install. Can't understand why Ford didn't spend a few extra bucks on this in the first place. Someone needs to tell Strack that the force on the struts is way too much. These are 60 lb struts, should be 30 lb, 40 lb tops. You have to remember to hold on the hood until it reaches the top. I know that I am going to have problems with the end fittings sooner or later.

    Great Product

    June 18, 2010

Full kit of parts and instructions. Easy to install and worth the effort. Good riddance to the stock hood bar...I always felt I would knock it out and have the hood come down on my skull.

    Great Product

    May 27, 2010

Very easy install, but you do need the proper equipment (rivet gun). Hood pops open very fast and needs to be held by hand as it ascends or else it bangs back and forth when it reaches the full open position.

    Nice Accessory

    May 11, 2010

Nice product. Make sure you center punch well on the hood or your drill bit will skid! Watch it when you open the hood! It slipped out of my hand when I was demonstrating to a friend. The hood flew up and broke the top off one of the struts! Be aware!
