Review & Installation Video

Dave from AmericanMuscle, today I have the stack racing 70mm throttle body, designed to fit the 96-2004 Mustang GTs. This will exclude the Cobra and Bullitt as they have a different style throttle body. The idea of a throttle body is to continue to give y

More Power. Increase the airflow in to your 4.6L engine for improved throttle response and more horsepower with a SR Performance 70mm Throttle Body.

Precision Crafted. This SR Performance Throttle Body is made from a permanent mold casting of 356 aluminum to produce a higher quality casting than conventional sand molds, which reduces porosity for an improved finish.

Application. The SR Performance 70mm Polished Throttle Body is designed to be a direct fit replacement on the 1996 to 2004 4.6L SOHC GT Mustang. 70mm throttle bodies work great on stock or mildly modified GT mustangs.

Will this TB work with the airaid TB spacer and the SR intake spacer on the stock plenum?

Muskrat14

  • If you are presently using your factory TB on the mentioned setup, then this TB will just replace your old TB.

Does this require a tune?

Jordan

  • Just adding a larger TB to your car will do little in performance, but enough that you should notice the change. Adding any performance item, a tune will give you the most it is capable, but it's not needed to feel it. Most times, just disconnecting your battery for five minutes will let the computer drop it's programming of how the car was driven before. Once you reconnect the battery and drive it a few days, it will relearn the new stuff added. You will notice the gain once the computer relearns. Things like cold air intakes, etc will just add to that. You just want to be sure nothing is blocking all that air getting into the engine.

What can I expect with this mod alone. I am debating on whether to buy this or not. How much HP and ft/lbs would I expect but just using this mod alone. My engine is bone stock so when this mod alone ( no tune , CAI , or intake plenum ) what gains will I see performane wise ?

Matt1125

  • Better throttle response, and <10 hp at wide open throttle. If you were to get a tune for it you would see more gains from it for sure. If you planned on doing more mods the SCT tuner would really be beneficial. I would do all your modding and then get the tune to include all the mods. So buying the CAI - SCT Tuner package last would be my suggestion. You can tell Bama tuning all the mods you have done and they will write you a tune that will get the most out of all of them. It's not cheap to mod a Mustang, just take it one step at a time, and have fun!

gains What kind of gains can I get with this with a cai and larger plenum and plenum spacer, with a tune?

Sean135

  • Iv tried different throttle body's and never found them to be of help unless your adding a turbo or super charger. Spend your money on cold air Intake and a BAMA tune, you will feel the difference. Rodstoy

    70 mm throttle body

Very easy mod to install. Directions say to have a helper just to watch to see if it fully opens up after you install the throttle cable. But I just used my cell phone and made a video will I pressed the gas peddle with my hand.

    Looks good

You don't notice much with a stock 97 gt but it will help a lot after I do a Pi swap. I also added at the same time the spacer and the upper intake and the SCT tuner.

    Ya Baby

I love that big intake sound at full throttle (if it didn't do anything else that would be worth it) and it opened up the top end (did the plenum install too). Easy install after watching video and reading American Muscle articles. Just drilled out the throttle cable slot before assembling anything. Put it all together on the bench first and it went on the car in thirty minutes without a hitch. Close attention to the position of the TPS and teflon around all vacuum fittings and the car idled perfectly. Hint, replacing the throttle cable, cruise control, and return spring is easier before bolting the mounting bracket back on top of the plenum. By all means do the plenum too it allows the airflow of over a 100 cfm more. I got all items on sale... so worth it.

The part is easy to replace.

The throttle body was quick and easy to fit. Two small issues, the hole for the throttle cable was to small, I had to drill it out. Having warned me the old sensor screws were difficult to remove and easy to damage, you could of given me knew ones. I had to replace them to finish the job.

    Great throttle body

This throttle body goes on the car fairly easily BUT *do remember to use a round file or drill to widen the throttle cable hole before you put it on because it is too small for the hole*. After you do that it goes on in 20 min and looks excellent with the polished finish under the hood. I really noticed how much smoother and more sensitive the throttle felt which made it all worth it! Would go great with a CAI!

SR Performance 70mm TB and Intake Plenum

Overall this is a great product and it is a bargain for the price. I noticed considerable power gains to my 02 Mustang GT and installation was not bad at all. I did have to file the hole for the throttle cable on the TB just a bit to get the end of the cable to slide in the hole but it took 5 minutes with a small metal file. It was a minor adjustment that should be expected with installations like this. I would definitely recommend this product and wow what a deal for the money you pay compared to some of the other brands. I would recommend installing the SR Performance Intake Plenum and TB at the same time because it is easier to do and you really get the full power gains with the TB by matching it to the SR Performance Intake Plenum.

    full SR performance intake

I install the SR Performance intake spacer, plenum and 70mm throttle body and all I could say is WOW! blew away all of my expectations! The install of the parts wasn't that bad, just hoses and bolts. When I took the car for a spin it was a hole new car! It seriously felt like my power doubled. You can hear and feel the car getting more air, and it gives you back a lot more power and a lot more throttle responsiveness. The car is like a whole new animal! 110% satisfied!

    Overall a nice addition!

I wish I had read these reviews before attempting to install this unit as I had the same issue as a number of other folks with the throttle cable hole being a bit tight. Otherwise an easy install. It's a nice upgrade, car idles better and has better throttle response in all ranges.

    Getting creative.....

I ordered the this throttle body last week Monday and got it on Friday installation was in 15 minutes with the right tools although i do advise be very careful with the throttle sensor screws cause they are so pressurized to hold that sensor there is a risk of stripping them....i used a dewalt drill and it worked....the only downside was that the hole for the cable is a bit small so you must improvise with a round filer which worked to make the hole a bit bigger and shazzam everything fitted like it suppose to be. After a test drive it is a noticeable change in the throttle response and how louder the intake and exhaust sound and yes you do feel the car jerk and pull you back as you flooring it....definitely recommend if you on a tight budget........thank you AM you guys will always have my business...
