Will this starter fit if I have a tko 600 trans?

JoshTT

  • This starter is made to specifically fit the T5 trans and bellhousing. Whether or not it will fit depends on the bellhousing and flywheel you are using for your TKO600.

Heat? Was just wondering if this was considered a "mini" starter and dealt well with LT header heat been searching for a good starter for when mine finally decides to go and I'd ideally like to only remove the header once to get the job done!! Thanks Pasquale

Jacks88LX5OH

  • This is not a "Mini" starter. However it is smaller than the older 5.0 starter that does not have the solenoid integrated into it. This starter is also more durable than the Original. Side note, double check if you need to remove the passenger long tube to get the starter out because you may not have to. If you are really worried about heat you can put a heat shield on it or wrap the header.

Do I still use the starter solenoid on the fender?? The pa starter has a built in solenoid???

Bozzy

  • The "starter solenoid" is attached to the starter. What you see on the fender is the starter relay, and yes you need to keep it.

Does this work on a 157 tooth or 164 tooth flex plate?

ninetytwonotch

  • I changed from a 164 to a 157 on my manual transmission 1964. Because I have a 157 I needed to order the starter for an AUTOMATIC transmisssion, The 157 flex plate is positioned/recessed 3/8 inch deeper compared to the 164 so you need the AUTOMATIC starter. All of these starters bolt up to every tranny, with either 3 bolt (AUTO) or 2 bolts (MANUAL). But the "AUTO" started protrudes 3/8 deeper. No one told me this so I have ordered 3 different starters until I figured this out. good luck

    PA Performance Starter for 79-95

Wired it up according to detailed instructions, no confusion whatsoever! Started up on first try, this is a very strong starter, almost felt like I was running a 16-volt system! I've had many other aftermarket starters, but NOTHING starts as strong or as good! I highly recommend and will not hesitate to buy again!

    PA Performance Starter Motor

The new motor is smaller, lighter, and more powerful than the regular '88 motor. If that's not enough, here's more: it's easier to work with and around. A quick tip on getting the OE starter out: take the front passenger tire off and use a 6" extension on a 10" ratchet through the suspension support.

    Very Tidy Little Unit

Installed on my new FRPP 347 in my 86 Capri. Had ZERO install issues, quality built piece and instructions are clear as day... car turns over very quickly..the best part was it took less than 5 days to ship to my door in Eastern Canada. Buy one.

    Killer Starter

Definitely worth upgrading to this unit, easier to bolt in, a little lighter, and you can hear the quality with each start. Easy install with clear instructions, very happy I chose to get this.

    A nice piece.

New in box is important instead of a refurbished unit. Replaced my starter because it would not turn over when hot. So far so good with the PA. Remove bolts from the front with long extensions, up and over the rack and pinion, etc...

    Great Starter

Pa Performance makes amazing products and this starter is no exception. Installation was a breeze and as always the included directions were easy to read and pretty straight forward. The only tricky part I found was getting to the top bolt on the starter. My advice: Use about 2 feet of extensions on your ratchet and get it from the front of the motor. You won't have to remove any parts and the bolt will come right off. From there this is a basic bolt on replacement that takes no time at all. Once you start your car you'll thank yourself for buying this one and not a refab. Thanks again American Muscle!

    Strong

Had a standard one i installed from the auto parts store. I was having some issues after my top end and complete exhaust upgrades. This on is smaller, lighter and STRONGER. Fit right in the stock location without and issue. Additional wiring was real simple. Instructions that came with it were crystal clear. Haven't had anymore starting issue. You can hear and feel the difference in this starter compared to the stock one. Highly recommend it.

    Very happy with new starter

Weighs about half as much as old starter . Brings 30 year old car back to life Extra wire that came with it had bigger connecter than post so I cut it and put smaller one on . You could use washer as well just be cautious not to touch other posts with washer or starter will not work correctly , other than that great addition to car . With certain long tubes is kind of difficult to reach upper bolt . I did it in parking lot with small jack , if you have lift it will be very easy . Great product overall

    Wooooow This starter Is Impressive!

This starter is most definitely worth every penny, I love the sound with every start up! The reason of a 4 star is Due to the slow Shipment. Ordered it on a Tuesday and got it on a Tuesday. I have ordered from other places and have received my items in 2 days. Heads up American Muscle, it really makes a different when it comes to NEEDS.... Again the starter Exceeded my expectations..
