Description
Engineered By Ford, Improved By Steeda. Engineered by Ford as original equipment for the Shelby GT500 and Boss 302 Mustangs, this innovative differential cover was designed with cooling fins to reduce overall gear oil temperatures and to increase rear end housing rigidity for improved gear set and bearing life. Steeda has then taken this unique cover one step further by installing fill and drain plugs for ease of maintenance. Finned Aluminum Reduces Heat. Constructed from light-weight cast aluminum the Steeda Mustang 8.8" Differential Cover features a finned design that dissipates heat much faster than the stock factory unit to prolong the life of your ring and pinion gears.

Recommended Upgrade. When changing your differential cover it is recommended to upgrade to fresh Royal Purple Synthetic Gear Oil. You will need 3 quarts of Gear Oil.

Application. This Finned Steeda Differential Cover is designed to fit the 1986-2014 Mustangs equipped with the 8.8" solid axle rear end, including the 2011-2014 V6, 1986-2014 GT, Bullitt, Mach 1, 2007-2012 Shelby GT500 and 1993-1998 SVT Cobra. It will

not fit 1999-2004 Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) equipped SVT Cobras. Technical Note: The O.E. application of this cover has the axle vent on the axle cover. All other 8.8 rear ends have the axle vent already installed on one of the axle tubes. Use the included vent plug to fill the vent hole on the cover and continue to use the existing vent on the axle tube.

    Good Product, Check your Hardware

    November 30, 2012

The cover from Ford is a very nice piece, made even better by having drain and fill plugs added. I do think it will really keep rear end temps down having the large fins and being aluminum. Both the drain and fill plugs are magnetic, which is a plus. Also it clears my aftermarket panhard bar just fine. As the title says, check the hardware they sent with the cover. Mine was 1 bolt short, plus out of the 9 bolts they did send, 6 of them were grade 5 bolts and the other 3 were grade 8. This probably wouldn't bother most people, but I found it to be pretty sloppy on Steeda's part

    nice diff cover

    March 22, 2013

I had the Steeda differential cover installed when I had my stock 3.55 ring & pinion and limited slip differential swapped out for 3.73 and a Cobra locking diff. I chose the Steeda cover because it was essentially a Ford Racing part with fill & drain plugs and had no issues with clearance of my adjustable panhard. The cover looks sharp, and with just a few hundred miles on it seems to be doing great--no leaks.

    Looks Great

    February 23, 2014

Only time and some laps around the track will tell the performance gain of this product. The construction of the cover is far superior to the stamped steel factory unit. The stoutness of this cover should add rigidity to the housing. An added bonus is that it looks great installed, and the fit was perfect.

Great replacement for the cheap stock cover

    July 01, 2013

I'd recommend picking this up if you are replacing gears to extend the life of them, plus it comes with a drain/fill plug for easier maintenance when the time comes.

    As Promised

    April 22, 2013

Received product on time, as promised. Product quality and condition were first rate, as promised. Installation was straight forward and I took far more time draining and cleaning the old fluid and differential than I did installing the new cover. Overall all first rate experience and I would recommend this product when you have a leak or need to replace the fluid. Makes draining and filling far easier than stock cover and is superior in quality and function.

    Steeda Finned Differential Cover

    April 21, 2013

I love this product. It is a really well machined part. It was very easy to install, will make changing the gear oil easy going forward and just looks cool. I would recommend this cover to anyone that wants his pony to be a cut above the rest of the herd. Mike D. from McKinney, Texas 2002 Mustang GT Convertible

    finned differential cover

    April 13, 2013

The cover is a great design and exact fit. You will need 1-1/4" bolts to fit the thicker cover since the short 3/4" stock bolts wont reach, but other than that everything was very easy and straight forward. Don't buy the 3/4 stainless steel bolts as they are too short unless you are using the stock stamped steel cover.

    Diff Cover

    October 07, 2014

I was in the process of changing differential gears from 2.73 to 3.55 and changing the differential to a Torsen2R. Seemed only logical to add the aluminum finned cover. Excellent product but the instructions seem to be misleading. They say to keep your vent in the exiting location (on the right axle tube) and plug the vent location on the cover. I did not follow these instructions since part of my upgrade was to eliminate the oil leaking from the current vent. Also, the existing vent fits perfectly in the new cover so all you have to do is remove the vent from the old location, clean it, install it on the diff cover, and plug the old location with the provided plug. This should prevent any leakage when making those hard left turns at the track. Otherwise, the product is very nice and a great improvement to the diff.
