It was another morning at the ’03 SEMA Show, and the MM&FF staff –hungover– got a rude awakening as we walked up to the BBK booth. The head honchos caught our attention when they announced the development of a new 5-liter intake manifold. Of course, we scratched our heads, stroked our chins, and asked them to repeat their last statement. A semi-finished lower intake manifold with fuel rails was thrust in front of us. The sight of a new mustang part, let alone a 5-liter one, definitely cures hangovers.
It took a moment for our minds to shift gears from modular engine parts back to our beloved 5.0. While the 5-liter market is moving at a steady pace, we were surprised to see a new long-runner intake. That was two years ago, and we are happy to finally get our greasy hands on a genuine production SSI intake. We could have tested a prototype piece a year ago, but we thought it was better to test BBK’s production intake and get an accurate representation of what you will actually be buying for your Mustang.
The SSI intake has been shipping to the public since late 2005 and word around the Msutang scene says BBK did its homework. After all, the engineers had the advantage of analyzing the positives and negatives of all the intakes on the market. The finished product on these pages definitely looks different from other EFI manifolds in circulation.
