Adjustable. Tokico's D-Spec Adjustable Struts and Shocks are the result of sophisticated piston and valving design. Also, their damping specific adjustable struts and shocks utilize a unique variable-aperture bypass, which is controlled by an adjustable slide valve. The variable tuning range makes it possible to use D-Spec for street, auto-cross, drag racing, or even road racing.

Ask a Question

How do you adjust the struts? Do I need to jack the car up or can I just leave it on the ground when I adjust the struts?

CQ808

  • These shocks have an adjustment knob that you can insert and turn to your desired firmness. You should not need to jack up the car to adjust your shocks. With other Tokico shocks that I have had, they had a ring that I could turn without lifting the car, so I deduct that these are the same. Tokico is a good shock and I am sure you won't regret getting them.

Can I raise my car height? My car has lowering springs, and for some reason, the mufflers scrap every single speed bump I come across. I took them to the mechanic to get the mufflers raised, and the mechanic said this is as high as they can go. My car is not insanely low, but I need a solution to the scrapping. Will these adjustable struts raise my car, even if for and inch from the backside?

MoeAli

  • No, shocks and struts have nothing to do with raising, or lowering, a car. They are there to dampen the bounce from the springs. It is the spring length, and rate, that determines that.

Will these stuts help lower my car. I have H&R SS springs on my car but want my car even lower. I want to know if these struts help lower your car?

Gabriel

  • No. The adjustments are for the quality of damping from the strut. If you want to go lower you will need coilover shocks and struts. Coilovers have adjustment at the spring perches to raiser or lower ride height.

    good products for the $$$

I replaced my old worn out stock shocks with these and i was amazed at how much better my car rode. they offer lots of dampening settings and are great for someone who would use the car as a daily driver on weekdays and an autocrosser on weekends. i recomend getting lowering springs if you want the full effect of an aftermarket suspension.

    Great strut and shock combo!!!

As soon as I got them my friend and I installed them in the drive within an hour and a half. Two weeks later we got to out them to the test at Willow Spring International Raceway in Rosamond, CA. So far i have the eibach pro kit and these tokico d spec combo and I felt the car nose dived, rolled and pitched less, and keep in mind that they weren't on the stiffest settting, they were some where in the middle. This is a great combo for the price! I would strongly recomend these if your ocassionally use you car for track use.

    Awesome KIT

I installed these along with some H&R lowering springs a few days ago. I can definetly tell the difference in the ride quality compared to t he stock parts. American Muscle was great during the whole transaction. Highly suggest these to others that don't want to pay the high price for coil overs yet.

    Firm and stable

Bilstein's were out of stock, but I read good things about the D-specs, and they were on sale. Glad I pulled the trigger! Install wasn't too bad, this was my first time ever swapping shocks/struts. My only difficulty was that I did these in combo with CC plates. The hardest part of the install for me was getting the dust boot off of the old struts. I honestly think Tokico should provide new ones. Completed all 4 corners in a few hours and took it out for a test drive. I could tell the difference immediately. The ride is noticeably more firm and stable and the car just feels more nimble. I'm happy with this purchase and recommend them highly!

    Very good

I ended up having a dealer install them after having spent most of my week home fighting with my differential. I am yet to find a way to reach the top of the rear shocks to adjust them, without purchasing an extender. However I may be wrong about this and just not trying hard enough. I haven't lowered my car because I still have to use it in the snow, but even without that, these shocks with good sways keep the car so level it almost doesn't even matter! Pepole at autocross riding in my car are just astonished that a (V6) mustang can handle so well!

    Nasty shocks & struts!

I just got rid of my old dead shocks for these engineering oddities. I took it for a ride down Black Snake Rd., the name says it all, and it sticks like a track car. Pair these shocks up with Eibach 1.5 lowering springs and some wide Nitto 555's, and you're in for a ride.

    Must Get This!!

Well worth the money. This kit may be a little pricey, but it is well worth it. As soon as I sat down in the car I could feel a difference. I paired this kit with the Eibach Drag Launch springs. After my first launch I had a smile from ear to ear, the grip was AWESOME.

Do not regret going this route at all

I was trying to decide between this setup or the Bilstein HD's and let me tell you I do not regret going with these. The adjustments are easy to make, the install should take 2-4 hours and it was a huge improvement over my stock Mach struts/shocks. Very easy to adjust (they come basically as stiff as they will get) and pretty big range of adjustment. The car does not dive as hard under breaking, and the rear hooks up better. I have the H&R Race Springs with these and could not be happier. I DD my Mach.

    Good product, would recommend

I installed these myself in just a few hours. Great fit and comes with the bolts and nuts needed to install. I haven't messed with adjustments that much which is why I only said "good" for ride quality and handling improvement. The adjustment that Tokico recommends to start with didn't really feel any different then my previous shocks and struts. I'm sure once I figure out the right settings they'll be a nice improvement. I recommend these for anyone looking for quality adjustable shocks and struts.

Top notch quality, and improvements noticeable!

I am running these paired with H&R SS's W/ no front iso's and MM CC plates. Aside from getting the correct spacer variation with the CC plates,(I'm running 1 small and 1 big on the bottom and 1 small and 1 big on the top for those who purchase with MM CC plates, and I clear the underside of my hood.) which only took about 10 minutes, the install was a breeze, With it up on jackstands, and air tools it honestly took about an hour or hour and a half to do all 4 corners. Being as I'm lowered so low, I went one full turn harder than recommended from Tokico, and later softened the back by a 1/2 turn. I would buy again, Car rides like a performance cadillac!
