Review & Install Video

Hey I’m Justin with, here with a couple of classic throwbacks for your S197 Mustangs interior. I’m talking about these retro style 5 speed shift knobs, available in your choice of either white or black fitting all 2005-2010 manual Mustangs. Back in the day in the muscle car era fancy chrome or LED shift knobs were not all the rage, in fact if you owned a hot rod or a Mustang, chances are you’d find something like this white or black resin knob, sitting on top of any toploader equipped 4 speed. Again each knob has been CNC’d from a single block of either white or black resin, and they’re not painted, so you’re not going to have to worry about them chipping off in your hands, that shift pattern has been engraved, so again, not painted, you’re not going to have to worry about messing anything up there. Since these knobs are resin, they’re not going to get quite as hot as a Billet or chrome knob per say, so it’s just something to keep in mind for all my warm weather friends out there. Installing a new shift knob has to be one of the easiest mods to tackle, simply remove the factory shift knob first, install the shift boot retainer, and then screw on the new retro style 5 speed knob. Getting everything installed should only take you a couple of minutes from start to finish. So if you’re looking to give your interior a small dose of that nostalgic styling that seems to work so well on these newer Mustangs, then be sure to check out one of these retro style knobs right here at

Nostalgic Styling. Add a cool vintage touch to your modern manual pony with a White Shift Knob. This shift knob features the 5-speed shift pattern right on top.

Quality Materials. This Shift Knob is a made from a solid white resin compound, not painted! So there is no need to worry about paint flaking off in your hand.

Simple Install. Just unscrew your old stock shift knob off and screw the new knob on, it's like changing a light bulb.

Application. The White Retro Style Shift Knob is designed to fit the 2005 to 2010 GT and V6 Mustangs equipped with a 5-speed Manual transmission or Mustangs with a 12mm x 1.25 thread pattern shift handle.

Technical Note. This 2005-2010 shift knob will not fit the 10mm Hurst shifter handle installed in the Shelby GT. It will fit the 2008 Bullitt Mustangs.

Fitment: 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 Details

    slow up on quick install

First of all the white knob is a plesent eye stopper. However install takes more than a quick reemoval of stock knob. The stock knob has a inside retaining ring that must be pried off to remove knob from boot.. removal of the boot is required and the new retaining ring (very tight fit) must be placed on boot. you can easily damage the boot if you get careless. final result is fantastic.

    Classic Look

Very easy install. Took about 10 minutes. I recommend fitting the leather boot on the spacer after you install the set screw but before installing the shift knob. Also recommend using a small amount of loc-tite on the spacer set screw. I have had this on my car for 1 day and already got complements!

Retro style shift knob on a 2010 GT

On my 2010 GT, when you take off the stock shifter knob you see that the top of the leather shift boot has a plastic insert. You can pry away the ring but the hard plastic insert is glued to the top of the boot. There is no way to get it in between the 2 circles of the boot holder. If you want to use the retro knob you have to put the boot holder on top of the plastic piece, tighten the set screw then put on the new knob. The only drawback is that the top of the leather boot sticks up over the bottom circle of the boot holder but does not look too bad.

    Shift Knob loods great

This shift knob looks and feels great. I have an all black leather interior and this small amount of white accent sets my interior off. Odds are you wont need the locking nut, and also make sure to throw a bit of loc-tite to hold it in place. Just a little bit of around Loc tite 270 hasnt budged.

    Nice shift knob!

Very nice prodcut. High quality material. Fit is perfect! Install was a breeze. I found that popping the whole boot out & installing the spacer from the underside of the boot worked best. Didn't even need the jam nut. Little red loctite....good to go. Love the classic look!

    Rediculously small

what a disappointment. after opening the mangled box, i almost didnt notice the tiny ball inside. ive had many ball shift knobs in my cars through the years, including some hondas, and none were ever this small. and it doesnt appear that AM offers a larger version so ill have to send this one back and go elsewhere. too bad because the price was great for what you get. the finish is ok. not TOO bad for $35 but could be nicer. i bought this for a gift and i dont even want to give it now. and there's no way id put it in my own stang. unless you're broke, go for something nicer for a few bucks more.

    Installed on 2007 Convertible GT.

This does give that retro look. The good- I had none of the problems others have had with the install. It went on very easy and in around 15 minutes just taking my time. It looks great and has the retro look and feel. The first person who saw it had a positive comment. The bad- The one I received had a tiny flaw in it by the 3rd gear mark. I feel this should be $25.00 dollar or less item. Bottom line- I like it and if you like the picture you wont be disappointed.

    not bad, rather small knob

Quick and easy install. The ball itself is ALOT smaller then I had expected, only slightly larger then a golf ball. Personaly I'd rather have one more a poolball size.

Does not Fit Bullitt Shift Boot

Ball itself is great and an easy install. The adapter for the leather boot however does not fit the Bullitt. The hole in the boot is too small for the adapter to fit.

Don\'t use it on A Bullitt

Despite what they say-The boot on the Bullitt is too small to get around the circles of the leather strap holder.

    Shift Knob

The white shift knob, looks and feels great. However, the collar provided for the shifter shaft, is will not fit the '08 Bullitt leather boot.

Great look, improves shift feel! 1st mod........

I installed this in about 10 minutes and used blue LocTite for all the threads. I didn't use the retainer nut at all and found the height with the Leather Wrap Holder Piece to be perfect. I love the look (glad I went with white over pewter), and it makes the gear box feel better, less "notchy". (I've been rowing Hondas for a long time).

    Easy Installation

2010 GT - Unscrew the stock knob, drop the spacer on the shaft, screw on the nut, screw on the shift ball, align the shift ball, bring the nut up against the shift knob, pull the spacer up tight against the nut, tighten the set screw, pull the boot up over the spacer collars, Voila, have a beer. I used an aggressive thread locker on the set screw, nut, and threads of the ball to keep everything in place. All around great upgrade.

    Very pleased!

It's nothing fancy, but for the price and for how it looks i would recommend it. I had a after market shift knob and retainer before this one, the retainer that came with the new shift knob is way better then the one i had before. But overall i enjoy the new look and feel of the product.

Great Shifter for a Great Price

When the factory shift knob in my '05 V6 literally fell apart in my hand while driving, I first tried a generic one-size-fits-all parts store replacement shift knob. After fiddling with it for a few weeks and not being able to ever get it to fit right, I was resigned to ordering a factory replacement shift knob with the correct threading and fit. When I did some searching, I was pleasantly surprised to find this simple, elegant, and affordable alternative from American Muscle. The price was so good I had to give it a try. Shipping was ultra fast, and the installation took literally less than five minutes. I absolutely love the look and feel of the new shift knob. Shifts are more precise, and I could not be happier with my purchase. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an economic upgrade to their factory shift knob!

shift boot retainer is a little tall.

First off I love the retro style but the shift boot retainer is too long and just kind of looks a little off. My first thought when I opened the box was that the knob was way too small but actually after I installed it I quickly realized its the perfect size. If you are on fence about buying this, just do it. good purchase. extremely fast delivery.
