If excessive turbulence and wind noise have taken the fun out of cruising in your convertible, then you’ll definitely want to check out this MMD Wind Deflector for all 2005 and up Mustang convertibles. If there’s an area on your Mustang that needs a little attention whether it’s function or form related, chances are MMD makes something for your ride. This top rated customer item greatly reduces excessive wind noise while cruising at any speed, so you can finally enjoy the radio or have a conversation with the top down. The MMD Wind Deflector’s frame is made from ultra-strong lightweight aluminum, that can easily withstand those highway speeds and then some without bending or collapsing. The biggest star in this product though is that ultra durable see through mesh material, that is responsible for cutting down that excessive wind noise without impairing your vision through the rear view mirror. Now the nice thing about this wind deflector is that it can remain in place even with the top up or be used in conjunction with aftermarket styling bars unlike some other products. That’s exactly what we’ve done here, we have the MMD styling bar installed with the wind deflector and it fits great. Now if you do want to store it when it’s not in use, you can definitely fold this up into the included storage bag. Installing this deflector is easy enough so that you could take it on and off before and after each use if you really wanted, the two tied on straps attach to the lower trim panels next to the rear seat, tighten those straps up, and you should be ready to go in about 15 minutes. So if you love riding in your convertible but wish you had a little less wind noise and turbulence so you can enjoy that stereo, or not mess up your hair, then this deflector from MMD is the answer to your problems.

Ask a Question

Install this before or after the styling bar? I'm wondering if it is best to install the screen before or after you install a styling bar? Or does it matter? I can't afford both items at the same time so want to know which one, if either, should go first.

  • Honestly, it would be total personal preference. It doesn't make much difference at all which you install first or second. Just need to decide if you want a style mod first or one that has more of a function like this wind deflector!

Storing wind shield in trunk Does the wind shield fit in the trunk when folded and in the bag?

  • Certainly does! Just fold it up, stick it in the protective storage back and store it away in your trunk until you want to use it again!

Does this mar the trim? Wondering if this moves around enough to mar the top of the rear interior quarter panels where it sits?

  • Based on my research, as already mentioned ,it won't mar the trim, but but you do have secure it tightly, *and* adjust it (something someone like me wouldn't notice in the instructions because I rarely read them.) Once fastened down, you have to position the vertical portion and tighten a limiter bolt so it won't fold open too far and mar the style bar by rubbing against it (if you have one).

How far back can you let the drivers side seat because of my height I have the seat bottom and need a little more recline than normal? It seems as if in order to use the wind deflector you must have both seats sitting straight up.

  • I tested this in my '06: In full-recline, with driver's seat all the way to the rear, the headrest just comes up to the deflector without interference to either.

Clearance... How much is the depth of the horizontal part of the wind deflector. I have seat track extension in my car. So I can measure if it would fit behind the headrest...

  • The front edge of the deflector is about 14" from the rear seat headrest. So, measure the distance from the rear of your front headrest to the front of the rear headrest, then subtract 14". This will give you the usable track distance for your front seats. (The upright deflector can either be set vertically or tilted a few degrees forward, toward the rear of the front headrests.)

When this is anstalled, can you put it in a down position or is it always up?

  • Yes it folds down.

Outstanding! Been driving a convertible almost daily for the last 38 years and this is THE BEST accessory I've ever put on one. Could tell the difference immediately--at slow cruising speeds, but put up the windows and take it up to 80 or more and it's like heaven! Less noise, less wind, better heat/a/c and you still feel like you're driving a convertible. Yeah, it's expensive, but I wish I had bought one years ago! If you enjoy your convertible but your hair doesn't, you MUST buy this product!

    Good but...can collapse

Excellent at stopping wind with the windows up. Issue I have is on a very windy day, 20+ mph wind or gusts I've had the screen collapse on me due to the way it is constructed.

    Must Have

this is an absolute must have if you drive a convertable. This allows me to drive top down in cold weather, freeway, extreme hot weather. With windows up and screen in place it cuts road noise and air swirl by 90%. This was one product that delievers more than was expected.

    Worth It

I too wondered if it was worth the price. It is. Cuts down on a lot of wind with the windows down. Wind is hardly noticeable with the windows up. No more complaints from the wife. No regrets!

    It works

It definitely helps with my long hair blowing around my face.. but only four stars because it is too expensive for what it is. It also shakes a bit on the highway which worried me at first looking in my rear view mirror... but there's no way to stop it from shaking at high speeds.

    Wind Deflector

I was also hessitant to spend this amount of money sight unseem/untested, but wanted my wife to enjoy our trips with the top down instead of constantly pulling her hair out of her face. IT WORKED! Not so much with windows down, but with windows up there isn't even a breeze.

    MMD Convertible Wind Deflector

Great Product. Needs some more Engineering done on the straps. I pulled on the strap the 1st time I installed it and the cheap plastic buckle that came with it broke. I went to Home Depot, purchased a 1 inch strap with a cinch in it. Cut the strap off the Wind Deflector and the Hook from the straps that came with the product. Put a continious loop between the Wind Deflector and the hook with the Spring Cinch that came with the Home Depot Strap. Now it is easy to pull on the strap and it lockes during the pull. To Release just push on the release and the strap let's go. For the price of this product I do not know why they put a cheap strap on it. The strap is hard to use. I think some people would of given up and sent it back to you.

    Works amazing, excellent

First thing I'll mention is that the price on this is rather steep. Don't think it needs to be this expensive. On the other hand it works great. Living in Canada, having the top down can be challenging with the temperatures we have. Had the Vert out with the top down this week(temp was +2C) and drove without the deflector on. There was a good amount of wind circling behind and into my back. Made it rather uncomfortable. Then installed the deflector and completely stopped the air from wrapping back into the front seats. Had it out on the highway and similar experience. Great product, but price needs to be reconsidered. They would sell a ton more by dropping it by 100 bucks

    Worth The Money

I have had this product for about 3 weeks. I have found it to be very effective in reducing the wind volume - especially at freeway speeds. When used with the windows up, the only wind you feel is on the very top of your head. The true test is going to be when my wife rides in the car with her long hair. However, all indications are that she too will be very happy with the product.

Blown away, but not by the wind

I was very sceptical. Seems expensive for what it is, but man does it work. No regrets.

    Must-have for all convertibles.

I got tired of the "thumping" my ears were taking causing some hearing loss and inability to hear my stereo very well. This is money well spent! I can now hear the stereo and since it blocks the wind, I can have the top down on the cooler days of which we get so many in Minnesota! I've driven the car comfortably on 60 degree days with the top down! It was amazingly easy to install, too. I should have bought one a long time ago.

    good enough

Its not hard to put in but the instruction weren't all that clear. Just hook the retaining straps under the plastic not the seat. No need to remove anything and you don't need any tools unless you want to loosen the screws and let the screen lean a little forward. Then you get optimal wind blockage but it just doesn't look as cool. The product is not quite as stable and tight as I would like it even if you tighten down the straps. But it is tight enough and the only one who is likely to notice the slight shimmy in the wind is you. I once worked with one of these on a BMW 325 and it folded in half twice for storage. This one only folds once but it fits nicely in its thick storage bag and it will fit in the trunk. I have a '14 gt

    kept collapsing

Bought it and loved the fact that it cut the wind down.but the top part kept callapsing to the point it was really annoying.returned it and tried another and it seems that there is nothing in the design to stop this so I returned it for a refund. American muscle customer service is top notch.

    Wind deflector--excellent!

Wind deflector is well made, looks sharp, and really makes a noticeable difference in cutting the wind and making a much more quiet driving experience with the top down. Installation was easy and fits with the style bar as published. The part is fairly pricey but worth the money compared to any alternatives. I highly recommend!
