Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m taking a closer look at Willpak’s Smooth Aluminum rear window louver kit fitting all 2005 and up Mustangs. Rear window louvers were all the rage back in the 60s and 70s, now your modern Mustang can enjoy that same retro styling, thanks to this louver package from Willpak. Taking a closer look at the louvers themselves you’ll notice they are made from a high quality lightweight aluminum, and then finished off in a very cool matte black finish. I’m guessing most folks will choose to leave this unpainted, much like the classic louvers, however if you wanted to you could have this panel matched to the color of your car for a totally different look. Another great feature of this product from Willpak is the fact that it features a 2 piece lift off design, making it extremely easy to remove the louvers in order to clean your rear window. This unit from Willpak features additional support both at the sides and in the center thanks to the included splints, which makes this product a little more rigid than some of the other options available on the market today. Finally, you’ll notice the louvers have been contoured perfectly to the shape of your rear window, giving you excellent visibility out of your rear view mirror. Since this is a 2 piece design the install will be slightly more involved, but if you take your time and follow the detailed instructions, it should be wrapped up in about an hour. So if you just can’t get enough retro styling and you’re one of the many Mustang owners who digs the look of a rear window louver, then you’ll want to check out this option from Willpak.

Retro Styling. Complete the retro inspired styling of your S197 Mustang with these high quality aluminum rear window louvers from Willpak. Rear window louvers were all the rage in the Muscle car scene of the 60's & 70's and now you can have the same styling for your modern pony.

Paint-able Matte Black Finish. Completed in an aggressive matte black finish these high quality aluminum rear window louvers can be installed as is, or be painted to match your Mustangs exterior.

Lift-off Design. These black Aluminum Rear Window Louvers will give your modern Pony classic muscle car styling and with its lift off design, you can still keep your back window clean.

Application. These Willpak Aluminum Rear Window Louvers are designed to fit all 2005 to 2014 Ford Mustang coupes including the V6, GT, and Shelby GT500. And they are not hinged so no need to worry about people messing with them.

Will these go through the soft-brush car wash? Or the brushless car wash?

  • You should use the brushless wash. No problems that way.

can you see good out of the back glass?

cheergirl77

  • Yes, from inside the cabin, the louver is noticeable, yet it doesn't not inhibit the drivers seeing capabilities. The edges follow the contour of the window quite nicely, allowing an excellent field of view out the rear window.

do they fade from the sun?

  • The Louver should not fade from sun exposure quickly. Though, if the car is subject to the sun all the time, there will eventually be some fading.

    Purchase it a year ago

I must say I wasn't very impress after installing and getting wind noise in which they vibrated quite violently. l discovered the weatherstrip was to thin and needed to be thicker. After making that adjustment ,things worked well no noises. The louvers seem to be holding up well after a year. I live in the south where the sun can be terrible on discoloration. I must say the louvers have held the color and durability.

    Horrible paint job on them

Out of the box they had paint issues.love the look but Over the past couple months the paint has flaked off more. I'm not spending 3-500$ to get them re painted at a shop. Very unhappy about this . I would have preferred them to come unpainted and I would have painted them myself . Or put food paint on these in the first place ( which I expected for $450) 3 stars is a little generous.

    Louver

Nice fit! Please tell the manufactorer that they need to have something inside the package to stiff it up because there will be bends to the louver that's not so easy to straightening out. This is due to the transporting companies that are not so careful while transporting!!!

My 1969 MACH 1 (Well almost)

This was just what I was looking for. I talked to a fellow Mustang owner who had a plastic model that he said warps when it gets hot. He said he wished he had bought the metal one. I agree. Some complain of a rattle, but I noticed that mine only rattled when I shut the trunk. When I investigated the cause, it was the top lover touching the glass. A washer under the top mounting bolt should raise it enough to clear the glass. Anyway, I love the looks. I think it should be less expensive, but I am a penny pincher.

    No No No

Sorry for the bad review, but understand its my opinion, This louver is aluminium and I was going to paint it the color of the car. The aluminum is tiny and in time would lose its shape and not look good. This is two pieces and has to be put together, that's not a problem. Should be made manufactured in heavier material and one piece construction. This came damaged and had to be returned and after physically seeing the louver I opted for the MLS louver, and will attempt to have that painted to match my pony. Also what the aluminum version cost is not worth what your going to pay for it.

    Menacing look!

If you like the rear louvers look, THIS is the product you want to get. It gives your mustang a mean and menacing look. Ever since I put these on people have started taking pictures and recording my car on the drive. It's awesome! The only down side was the install time since it takes 24 hours for silicone to fully cure. But totally worth the wait! 10/10 for this product

    Paint wasn't perfect

I love the look. Wasn't too hard to install. Wish there was a better video online for this one with more instructions but I did it .paint was damaged in a few spots. Might take it off and matte black paint it over. If the paint was fine I'd say 5 star

    Willpak window louver

I have a 08 GT 500 and this louver really set it off. Good quality and definitely good looks. Very easy to install and I like how you can take it off to clean the window whenever you want. Willpak did a great job on this. Even though it is pricey, you get what u pay for!

    Well...

I found the installation to be very difficult. Instructions are more or less worthless. The only alignment suggestion is to install the louvers high enough to clear the trunk lid. Uh..okay. Since I have only one chance to stick the mounting hardware to the rear window, could you (Willpak) offer actual measurements for the location of the hardware--say-- from the top and sides of the window glass? No. Just clear the trunk lid. Gee, thanks for the help. Also, the instructions are not clear if the hardware should be left on the louvers during install (for alignment?) or not. Seemed to me that having 6 super-sticky pads attached to a floppy piece of aluminum was a disaster waiting to happen, so I opted to temporarily tape the hardware in place while attached to the louvers, then remove the louver and place the hardware individually. Despite hours of careful planning and aligning and re-aligning of the hardware, checking and re-checking the fit, the louvers ended up offset about 1/8" towards the passenger side...because it's flat metal going on a curved window. In retrospect, maybe if I would have done the two top hardware and worked down toward the trunk, rather than doing one side, then the other, things may have turned out differently. Again, thanks for the (lack of) tips and/or instruction. They do seem to be well built, just really (REALLY) lacking on instruction clarity and guidance.

Spend your money on something else

I bought these about two years ago, and followed the installation instructions exactly. Despite handling them with "kid gloves" I ended up with a few spots where the black paint had chipped off during installation. Once I actually started driving, when I got to somewhere between 55 and 70 MPH the louvers would start rattling. Loudly. The range seemed to vary depending on road surface and outside temperature. The higher the temp, the lower the speed they started rattling at; I assume due to expansion of the metal. Bottom line, the one central support strap is not enough. Today they started rattling around 30 MPH and wouldn't stop, when I got out I found out why. The front of the top louver connects to the central support strap, which bends to an "L" shape at that point. I assume it was by means of a weld, which has now broken off. So after spending over $400 I got two years of aggravating use out of them and will now junk the set.

I received my louvers and couldn't wait to install them . After a little patience and precision layout I installed the mounting plates to the rear glass, disappointed that I needed to wait 24 hours to install louvers. The next day I placed louvers on back glass and the studs lined up perfectly (much to my surprise ) I installed the nuts and boy what a nice addition !! It looks great !! People notice right away and really like them also . Very happy . RS

    Rear View Perfection !!!

Installation was somewhat easy. There was some rattle when I first installed it but within time it went away. Really happy with the overall look. Did seem a lil pricey but what the heck. Gave me that extra kick from the rear side view. Go cruising a lot here in Cen Cal people love it and get lots of compliments.

Waste of money and my time....

Well for starters they don't fit correctly -- there is about a 3 - 5 mm gap at the top on each side when they are centered exactly.. second.. the mounting hardware that came in mine is NOTHING like the hardware in their installation instructions, OR the install guides here on the website.. They look good from a distance.. but the alignment/size issue is blatant up close.. Next -- they rattle insanely over 65mph-- sure while driving in town no big deal-- but I do a lot oh highway driving and the rattling is HORRIBLE. Next after about 3 months the upper mounting pads came off the glass and to save them getting damaged or flying off, I removed the louvers.. the center and bottom plates were not loose at all however.. lol I thought I would shatter the glass trying to take them off.. All in all I have an aluminum window shade for my garage wall now, and thinking the $500 would have been much better spent on ANYTHING else for my Boss..

Rattling noise at high speeds..easy fix though

The manufacturer must have tried to save $5.00 on the vinyl foam. Go to O'reilly Auto Parts and purchase 20 feet of Part Number 01041. 3/16" x 3/8" Black Vinyl Foam and cover the entire inside top of each louver with the foam. Leave the factory foam on and just add too it. It will never rattle again.!! Other than that it's a great product.
