Review & Install Video

Hey I’m Justin with, and I’m taking a closer look at Willpak’s Smooth Aluminum rear window louver kit fitting all 2005 and up Mustangs. Rear window louvers were all the rage back in the 60s and 70s, now your modern Mustang can enjoy that same retro styling, thanks to this louver package from Willpak. Taking a closer look at the louvers themselves you’ll notice they are made from a high quality lightweight aluminum, and then finished off in a very cool matte black finish. I’m guessing most folks will choose to leave this unpainted, much like the classic louvers, however if you wanted to you could have this panel matched to the color of your car for a totally different look. Another great feature of this product from Willpak is the fact that it features a 2 piece lift off design, making it extremely easy to remove the louvers in order to clean your rear window. This unit from Willpak features additional support both at the sides and in the center thanks to the included splints, which makes this product a little more rigid than some of the other options available on the market today. Finally, you’ll notice the louvers have been contoured perfectly to the shape of your rear window, giving you excellent visibility out of your rear view mirror. Since this is a 2 piece design the install will be slightly more involved, but if you take your time and follow the detailed instructions, it should be wrapped up in about an hour. So if you just can’t get enough retro styling and you’re one of the many Mustang owners who digs the look of a rear window louver, then you’ll want to check out this option from Willpak.

Retro Styling. Complete the retro inspired styling of your S197 Mustang with these high quality aluminum rear window louvers from Willpak. Rear window louvers were all the rage in the Muscle car scene of the 60's & 70's and now you can have the same styling for your modern pony.

Paint-able Matte Black Finish. Completed in an aggressive matte black finish these high quality aluminum rear window louvers can be installed as is, or be painted to match your Mustangs exterior.

Lift-off Design. These black Aluminum Rear Window Louvers will give your modern Pony classic muscle car styling and with its lift off design, you can still keep your back window clean.

Application. These Willpak Aluminum Rear Window Louvers are designed to fit all 2005 to 2014 Ford Mustang coupes including the V6, GT, and Shelby GT500. And they are not hinged so no need to worry about people messing with them.

Will these go through the soft-brush car wash? Or the brushless car wash?

  • You should use the brushless wash. No problems that way.

can you see good out of the back glass?

  • Yes, from inside the cabin, the louver is noticeable, yet it doesn't not inhibit the drivers seeing capabilities. The edges follow the contour of the window quite nicely, allowing an excellent field of view out the rear window.

  • the willpak louver has a single brace in the middle of the louver assembly is straight forward and simple. looks great on my 94, so i know it'll look good on yours too.

where do the slide splints go?

  • Hello! The side splints go on the outer edges, of the mounting side on the Willpak Rear Window Louvers.

do they fade from the sun?

  • The Louver should not fade from sun exposure quickly. Though, if the car is subject to the sun all the time, there will eventually be some fading.

    After a while

I have had these louvers on for about 6 months now and have experienced a few problems with them. First, 3 of the 4 mounts have come off the glass even with them being sealed as instructed. Second, some of the tabs that hold the louvers together (from the underside) have come disconnected from the louver allowing it to rattle.. Fortunately both of these problems were solved with metal epoxy. The louvers still look great but I don't think they were built very well to start with.

Love them, my Dad and me installed in no time. The only wait was making sure the tape set. It makes my Mustang look so sweet, get compliments all the time. But, the paint is chipping and it rattles like crazy in the wind. Other than that its pretty sweet!

    Look nice, but.......

These louvers look nice, but for the money you should get more. The instructions are somewhat vague. Take your time installing the the mounts. Overall fit once the mounts are installed it okay. I expected a better overall fit. You rely on the mounts to make the flat louver hold the curved shape of rear window. Upper clip mount didn't really fit the louver where it's supposed to hold. I had to gently shape it to fit. Time will tell how well the mounts stay attached. Louver looks nice though.

    Poor Quality

First these louvers are not designed to fit the contour of the rear window properly. I had to bend mine to make them fit. The OEM finish on these is terrible I had to scuff and refinish. After 3 months of listening to the rattle I have removed them. Like the look of the car with louvers, but I would not buy these. Plan on looking into purchasing some Rousch hinged louvers. They are a little pricey, but I should have held out and got those to begin with.

followed advice before i installed mine

I wanted to buy this louver because it looks closer to the original louvers of the 70's. I reeinforced the riveted undercariage with liquid metal and also place some silicone at the base of the bolts to help with dampering vibration. it's solid and looks awesome with great visability. much cooler and leaves me wanting to install side louvers also!

First of all, the install manual is a little vague, but if you use some common sense and plan your steps out, you can't fail. Make sure you clean the window exactly as instructed (use 91% alcohol, none of that 50/50 rubbing alcohol nonsense) and apply plenty of pressure on the mounting brackets. TAKE YOUR TIME WITH YOUR MEASUREMENTS/PLACEMENTS!!! And wait for the full 24 hours before placing the louver on. I cannot stress these two things enough. This is a quality product, and I cannot be happier! Makes the rear end very aggressive (mine is the vista blue v6 with silver stripes).

    Rattles and mounts don't last

I've had these for 2 years now. I like they way they look, but for $500 they should be a better product than they are. The curve of the window doesn't fit the curve of the louvers. The upper bracket mounts don't last, you'll need to buy more than one. I just had the car in the shop for body repair and had them bend the louvers to fit, so far, they are staying mounted.

    easy install and great louver

i got my louvers right from the manufacturer's shop in my home town. Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Install was easy if you followed the directions. Have had them on my 07 for 3 years now. No rattles, no sqeaks, no problems, even at 200 kph (only a couple of times) Don't understand everyone elses problems with them. Have fun crusing.

    A Classic Look

I slapped these louvers on my stang in about 2 or so hours. These look very nice unpainted but drop dead sexy painted. For those out there that are saying "well...." I will say this, if you don't take your dear sweet time installing them it can look like crap the top of the louver will bow up looking slighty odd from the front of the car. One thing though after all said and done I get some many looks from other mustang owners! All in all I give them 5/5.

    Smooth Aluminum Rear Louver

This Louver looks great, very agressive, and is definitely worth the price. Make sure you follow the directions when installing or else it will be difficult. Definitely a 2 man job tho. it gives the original 60's look that i love and goes great with 1/4 louvers. i was debating between this and the ABS and decided to go with this even tho it costed a bit more but its VERY sturdy and have no noise complications nor any sight is blocked out the window. it makes the inside much cooler and darker. Definitey satisfied!!! Way better than ABS.

    look i wanted but....

look great on the car but the top does kinda bow up a bit even with the mounts all the way out. i thought for the price they would be built a bit heavier like the old ones. putting them on is easy just take care in marking mount positions. nicely packaged with padding. overall like them just wish they fit better and were constructed heavier for the price.

    Impressive Set of Louvers

Fortunately, I received the louvers with no bent ones from shipping. Some of the edges had the paint scraped off and one corner was slightly nicked. They look great and installed very easily. Only problem is it takes 4 simple slotted screws to take off to clean the window which is nice but theives will have no problem removing them too.

    Looks Good

Easy install. Take the time (like the directions say) and clean the rear window real, real good. I used windex, then went over it with rubbing alcohol. We mounted the kit, then stuck the brackets on. I let the brackets fully dry for 24 hours before we mounted the louver. Next day louver went on easy. Removes for cleaning. I only handwash my Mustang and would not ever go through car wash with the louver, it will easily warp.

    Aggresive styling

This is the first upgrade to my 08 mustang ive purchased so far and cant be any more pleased with it, while the instructions look complicated to install,it was actually very simple once we got started and its been on my car for a week with no rattle or movement whatsoever at 70mph, in short great looks, easy install, and fantastic quality.

    2006 louvers

read other reviews here and was somewhat worried about the noise people have talked about when up to hi way speeds. They must have fixed that issue, because I have gone up to 80 and hear no noises from the louvers. VERY happy with the look and fit. If you have been thinking about getting them, do it

    Looks great

Great looking upgrade. Decently easy to install with some common sense. Instructions are a bit.... well like I said, common sense is needed. Packaging was very low quality. Mine did not get damaged but I really dont see how they didn't considering the way they are shipped.

Spend your money on something else

I bought these about two years ago, and followed the installation instructions exactly. Despite handling them with "kid gloves" I ended up with a few spots where the black paint had chipped off during installation. Once I actually started driving, when I got to somewhere between 55 and 70 MPH the louvers would start rattling. Loudly. The range seemed to vary depending on road surface and outside temperature. The higher the temp, the lower the speed they started rattling at; I assume due to expansion of the metal. Bottom line, the one central support strap is not enough. Today they started rattling around 30 MPH and wouldn't stop, when I got out I found out why. The front of the top louver connects to the central support strap, which bends to an "L" shape at that point. I assume it was by means of a weld, which has now broken off. So after spending over $400 I got two years of aggravating use out of them and will now junk the set.
