    Review & Install Video

Hey, everybody. I'm Justin with americanmuscle.com, and this is gonna be my detailed breakdown and install of Barricade's Premium Molded Fender Flare Kit, available for your 2015 and newer F-150. So in this detailed breakdown of the Barricade option, I'm gonna talk about why you might wanna go with a flare like this for your 2015 and newer F-150. We'll break down the Barricade option from a construction and materials standpoint, and then, last but not least, I'll give you a brief little overview of the installation. And yes, there is the smallest of drilling needed to get the Barricade flares on your truck, but it's not into the aluminum body, so don't worry about that. Nevertheless, I'm still gonna go with a soft two out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter with a little bit more detail later on. So the Premium Molded Flare Kit here from Barricade should appeal to the 2015 and newer truck owners out there looking for an additional two inches of coverage to cover up an aggressive wheel and tire setup and wanna grab one of the most affordable sets here on the site. Now, in addition to that, there probably are some owners out there who wanna take advantage of the Barricade option strictly from an appearance standpoint, as adding a flare kit like this with the inclusion of the hardware will certainly give the truck a more aggressive appearance. But getting back to my number one reason why I think a lot of truck owners might consider going with a flare option like this is, again, protecting the side of your truck from dirt, water, mud, rocks, snow, whatever. Now, this is especially problematic when you have a truck that might be lifted or leveled a little bit with a more aggressive wheel and tire combo. Those lower offsets, you guys know what I'm talking about, right? You've got a little bit of the poke going on kind of like I have with my truck. Yes, it looks really cool, but the moment you hit the smallest puddle or whatever, it's instantly all down the side of your truck. By going with Barricade's Premium Molded Flare set, you are gaining 2 inches of additional coverage here, which should be enough to cover up the most aggressive wheel and tire offsets and should help prevent some of that sling or spray down the side of your truck in inclement weather. Now, taking that a step further, guys, some local laws might actually dictate that you can't have the wheel and tire sticking out from the side of your truck and, therefore, you need to have them covered up. And if that is the case, then these would also be a great option for you there as well. But moving away from the functionality side, let's talk appearance because, honestly, there's no denying adding a fender flare kit like this will certainly change the entire attitude of your truck. Now, there might be guys out there who totally don't even care about the functionality aspect. They just wanna add these from that appearance standpoint. And if that is the case, there's nothing wrong with that. In fact, a lot of guys might not even have those wider wheels and tires to cover up, and, again, if that is the case, there's certainly no harm in adding these just from an appearance standpoint. Now, kicking up the appearance a little bit further here with the Barricade option is the inclusion of the added hardware, fake rivets, whatever you wanna call 'em, kinda running around the edges of the fender flares themselves. Now, in my experience, this is definitely a love it or hate it addition. Some guys really might like this. Other guys might prefer the look of a smooth fender flare instead. And if you do prefer those smooth fender flares, we do have a few options here at AM from Bushwhacker Lund, and even Barricade does have the Raptor Style Flare, which I think looks really cool. They have a little running light included with that as well. So again, this is something you guys have to decide on when buying a fender flare. Maybe you like the rivets. Maybe you don't. We have plenty of options for both. All right, gang, so we've talked functionality, we've talked styling. Let's get into the construction a little bit more here with the Barricade option and overall pretty solid stuff, durable, automotive grade ABS plastic. It has been UV-treated to prevent any fading over the years with this matte black finish. And overall these guys should withstand some light abuse off-road, if you do some light wheeling, maybe hit a tree branch, something like that. However, that being said, you've probably been shopping for fender flares. You've probably noticed the Bushwhacker options, and they are a little bit more expensive. Well, guys, there is a reason for that. A lot of times, those Bushwhacker options utilize what's called a DURAFLEX material in place of the ABS. It will be a little bit more durable. Definitely withstand some more abuse than these guys here. So if you do thrash your truck, you do a lot of hardcore off-roading or wheeling, you might wanna spend a couple of more bucks and look into those. However, if you're like 99% of the owners out there for the 2015 and newer F-150s, you spend most of your time on the road with maybe some light wheeling here or there. These will be perfectly fine for you.I do wanna point, yes, you are receiving four fender flares here from Barricade. I know you're only seeing two, but these guys are kinda big, and I'm kinda out of space. So just rest assured, yes, you're getting four, along with all the included hardware to get these puppies installed. I also talked a little bit more about these guys being matte black with that UV protection. Yes, that is the case, but you can also spray these things to match your F-150 because some of you guys might not really be into that big contrast between the color of your truck and the black fender flare. Maybe you'd prefer more of a factory-style with a color match flare. And if that is the case, well, then, again, you can have these prepped and sprayed to match your truck and totally give you more of an OE-style appearance.I did briefly mention price earlier on in the video, but let's nail that down here. Again, these are one of the most affordable in the land of aftermarket flares at just south of 400 bucks, making them the second most affordable at least at the time of this video, right behind those TrueEdge options. But if I can be completely honest, guys, you won't be doing yourself any disservice by spending a couple of extra bucks and going with the Barricades here. You're gettin' slightly better fitment, at least in my opinion, and these are backed by a pretty solid three-year warranty as well. But switching gears, let's get into the install here briefly. I'm just gonna give you a general overview, so you have an idea of what you're working with when it does come time to start wrenching. And as I pointed out, yes, there is the smallest amount of drilling for your truck to get the flares in place, but, no, it's not into the aluminum body. So no worries there. I'm stickin' with a soft two out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter, maybe an hour or two from start to finish here before you're all flared up. Again, Barricade does toss in some very detailed instructions, guys, which should help you along the way here, and believe me when I tell you most of your time during this job will be spent installing the hardware, along with sides, or the edge of the flares themselves. Everything else is completely straightforward. Follow the detailed instructions, and you should be good to go.Wrapping things up here with the Barricade option, things are pretty straightforward, right? I mean, you're getting two inches of additional coverage, the fitment is on point, and the price is very competitive with some of the other big name flares in the category, especially if you're spending most of your time on the road. So that is my review here of the Barricade Premium Molded Fender Flares, which you can grab right here at americanmuscle.com.

Extra Protection. If your F-150 spends its time out on a worksite or along some off-road trails, then you've probably already found out just how quickly your stock fender flares scratch, ding and scuff. These upgraded, beefed up Barricade Premium Molded Fender Flares offer critical protection. They provide bare paint coverage and extra protection against kicked up rocks and debris, while providing your truck with some new, aggressive styling.

Durable ABS Construction. Barricade manufactures their Premium Molded Fender Flares from an OEM quality acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) material. ABS is known for its light weight, superior durability and impact resistance making it the ideal material for use on and off road. Barricade then completes their Fender Flares in an smooth black finish that matches your F-150's existing factory trim.

Paintable Matte Black Finish. Completed in a smooth black finish out of the box, these Barricade Fender Flares can be installed as is for a great aggressive look. However, if you're not a fan of the black finish, the Fender Flares can be painted to match your F-150's exterior color scheme, the choice is up to you.

Bolt-On Installation. These Barricade Fender Flares are designed to install using the factory mounting points and includes all of the necessary hardware for a straight forward install. Minimal drilling is required fit to ensure a perfect fit to your F-150, but no additional modifications to the metal body of your truck is necessary.

I keep seeing "only minor drilling is required, but no additional modifications to the metal body of your truck is necessary." Is that through the metal fenders or is it only in the fender wells? Do I drill through the outside of the fender? Can I take these off later and not have holes in my fenders?

    JohnD

Will these work on a F-150XLT 2016? Do I have to drill through the sheet metal to install these? Because it looks like the wheel fender is molded into the body.

    • As long as it is a 15-17, and it's not a Raptor, than these will fit no problem! And only minor drilling is required, but no additional modifications to the metal body of your truck is necessary.

      Barricade Premium fender flairs

I puchased the Barricade fender flairs for my 2016 f150 k King Ranch. First thing is that the right rear molding came in with scratches in it. After following the instructions and installing the edge molding I fit the left rear molding to the wheel well and it didn't fit as advertised. The top had an 1/8" gap from touching the fender. I moved on to the right rear and when installed it didn't fit as well. There was a 1/2" gap at the top. I removed both parts and repackaged them in the box. I called American Muscle to complain in an attempt to return the parts and was informed that since I had installed them that they would not accept the return. I'm out $400.00 and I'm stuck with a set of fender flairs that don't fit my truck as advertised! If I could rate them at zero I would but the review won't allow that.

Day after I bought my truck new (2017) I put new wheels and tires and then ordered these flares...put in a 2" leveling kit and now my truck looks awesome. They installed very easily, however it was much easier to watch the online video than to use the instructions which has very very small type and blurry photos. They are sturdy and bolted on in a few hours.

      Easy install, look Great!

I am very happy with these. The installation was very easy, took about an hour to install. The fit is good, not perfect, but very close. I have a friend with Bushwackers on his F150 and these fit much better than his do. Overall these are a great value and really make the truck look good.
