Review & Install Video
Hey, guys, I'm Alex from americanmuscle.com. Today, I'm bringing you my detailed review and breakdown of the Barricade 5-inch straight oval side step bars in black fitting your 2015 through current standard cab F-150.
So in this video, I'm gonna talk about who this kit is gonna appeal to, the construction and materials that went into this bar, what you should expect to be spending, and then we're gonna take a quick look at the installation. We're gonna be looking at a very simple one out of three wrenches in the difficulty meter and about an hour's worth of labor, which I'll have a little bit more for you on that later.
So the Barricade 5-inch setup that I have here today is definitely going to appeal to any 2015 or newer standard cab F-150 owner that's gonna be looking to get into one of the most attractive as well as beefiest side steps on the market today. So no matter if your F-150 did come equipped with a side step or if it didn't, these are gonna offer you the maximum amount of footpad to get in and out of your truck, which is gonna make it considerably easier, especially for some of the guys running either a leveling kit or a small lift kit.
So these are definitely gonna offer a more unique and aggressive option. Again, it's gonna be one of the largest ones on the market today. But I do wanna say that while we will say these are gonna be good for some protection, I wouldn't really rely on them if you're gonna be doing some heavy trail work, as these really aren't gonna offer the maximum amount of protection on the sides of your truck. If you're looking to protect your investment, I would definitely suggest picking up a set of fender flares. But you can rest easy knowing that if you're gonna be bouncing around town, these will probably eat up some door dings. So you're not gonna have to worry about getting your paint corrected.
So something I really like about this kit in comparison to what you might find on your local dealer's lot, first and foremost, this is gonna be black and not chrome. I've got too much chrome on my own truck, and I think black is a little bit more sleek as well as aggressive, but for the fact that this is gonna be an oval configuration in comparison to a straight step. Now, at the end of the day, it's really gonna come down to the look that you're after as well as how much you want to spend as well as the brand.
So in terms of the construction here, the team over at Barricade is gonna have these manufactured out of a 5-inch aluminum tubing, which is then gonna be powder-coated in a sleek black finish, which, again, I happen to think looks that much more aggressive than a chrome setup. But if you are after chrome, it's got a slew of different options on the website that I would suggest checking out.
All right, guys, so in terms of the pricing here, you should expect to be spending only about 120 bucks for this kit, which, in my opinion, is a huge steal, as if you're gonna run this in comparison with some of the other options out there, you're gonna see that they can easily tip the scales north of 500 bucks. Again, for the money here, you're not only gonna be getting away with some really great looks that's gonna accentuate the sides of your truck, but it's gonna make it considerably easier to get in and out of your truck and especially for the guys that are running a small leveling kit or even a lift kit.
So switching gears to the installation portion of the video, just like I had said up top, you're looking at a very straightforward one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter and about an hour's worth of labor to get these on to your truck. Now, the installation alone here for a 2015 and newer F-150 is definitely a huge selling point for me, as there's really no reason why I'd wanna modify, hack, weld, or do anything to a brand new truck. This is gonna be a tried and true bolt-on installation. And, again, you're gonna have it on in about an hour.
So looking ahead, some things I'd make sure to have on hand would be a socket set and a ratchet and maybe even an extra set of hands when it comes time to tighten these down. These aren't the heaviest pieces of equipment. But once you're trying to button everything up, it's gonna be good to have that extra set there just to get everything in line.
So to get these on, you're gonna be utilizing the factory mounting hardware, which is gonna be found in the interior of your rocker panel and the supplied hardware that's gonna come with this kit from Barricade. So once your brackets are on one side, simply repeat the process to the other to get your bars on. And then I would secure them to a finger-tight just to make sure that everything is gonna be in place. Lock them down, and you're good to go.
All right, so just to wrap things up here, if you're the 2015 and newer standard cab F-150 owner and you're looking to pick up some really great and aggressive looks on the sides of your truck as well as making it considerably easier to get in and out, I would definitely suggest checking out this kit.
