Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

Hey guys, Adam here with americanmuscle.com. Today, I'm bringing you a quick overview and installation of the Barricade Tail Gate Assist, which is available for all 2009 to 2014 F-150s. In this video, I'll be going over the functionality and benefits of the Tail Gate Assist, as well as all the materials and construction that goes into the kit. I'll top the video off with the installation, which I'll let you know up front will not require any drilling or modifications, and will be very, very straightforward, so I'll be giving it a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. The Barricade Tail Gate Assist will be for any '09 to '14 F-150 owner who's looking to make sure that their tail gate isn't slamming down every time they go to open it, which can definitely cause some damage to the cable or the tail gate itself. So this is definitely one of the more straightforward products we have on the market here, the Tail Gate Assist is exactly what it sounds like. It's to make sure that tail gate does come down in a safe, secure and slow motion, instead of slamming down like it does now. Now slamming it down, of course, is a lot quicker, but of course, it does put a lot more strain on the cable itself. It can be pretty dangerous to the people around the tail gate, and of course, the tail gate itself could get damaged. Now, that cable does hold up pretty well, but when it keeps slamming down over the years, it can definitely snap, causing that tail gate to come crashing down. That, itself, is going to be an expensive fix, so putting on the Tail Gate Assist can definitely slow down the motion and the rate that the tail gate comes down, saving you some time, money in the long run, repairs, and of course, that cable and your safety. So that second option I did just mention a second ago is the safety, and it's simply because when the tail gate comes crashing down, and somebody's hands are in the way, it can hurt. It's not definitely the super safest way to have that tail gate come down, so the slower it is, the more easy it is to stay away from getting hurt. So the way this kit actually works is, it does come with one single damping shock, which will attach to both the body of the vehicle and the bottom end of the tail gate. Now the cable you already have will attach on the same side, only the driver's side is what it comes with, so when it attaches to the body, it goes right under the cable. And when it attaches to the tail gate, it goes to the bottom end, instead of the top, where the cable goes. Now, since it doesn't require any drilling or modifications to get the job done, it does come with all the hardware you need, including the only tool you'll need to get the job done, too. Now one of the other good things about this kit, which is probably one of the most relieving good things, is that it actually doesn't come with a very high price tag at all. You can pick up this single damping shock to make sure your tail gate comes down safely for just about 30 bucks, which, in my personal opinion, is well worth the price if you're tired of that thing slamming down, causing all types of problems for the cable. And it could actually eventually lead to the damaging of your tail gate. So, if you're looking to just, you know, save some time, some money, some repairs in the long run, definitely a kit worth picking up. And, of course, it does save some noise and slamming that tail gate down can be pretty loud. Now, I've already pretty much given you the rundown on the install, but just to cap things off with that as far as the install goes, I will tell you all the tools, again, are already included in the kit. Just this little thing right here, this torx bit, that's all that you'll need to get the job done. All the hardware is here as well. I would say, at the absolute maximum, 30 minutes on the install, because it is very straightforward. It does get a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. Now, as far as it all goes, ev

    Tailgate success

Of all the new items I've added to my F150 truck, the Tailgate Assist is truly amazing. It's a simple but pleasing device and just plane cool. Everyone who has seen it, wants to know where I got it and want to buy one for their truck. Instillation was simple and took about ten minutes

    Game changer

At first I was hesitant to buy this because I wasn't sure if I need it but now I'm glad I did. It's one of those things where once you have it you'll always want it on your truck. Unfortunately I broke the first one I bought by stepping on the tailgate as it was going down and it stripped the threads on the shock. Completely my fault not the product.

    Tailgate assist

Installation less than 20 mins. This was much needed item to stop the tailgate from slamming open. Only drawback so far is I noticed a bit of rusting already on the black painted area where the piston rod enters the housing. That's why only four stars.

    Super easy to install

The tail gate assist was very to install. My only grief is with the instruction that came with. I did not bend the bar. I just placed it in and tightened it down and that cause the bar to bend into the correct place. Have it on my truck now for a bout 3 months and love it

    Wish the instructions were better

I really wish the instructions were better when installing this. The rod you have to bend should already be bent and shown better in the pictures. Hopefully we got that correct but who knows. We had trouble snapping the shocks on after we got it installed. Directions doesn't show that you have to pull out the little pin and then put it back in after you connect the shock to the brackets. We finally figured it out and then it was easy. The tailgate is heavy and this shock really helps assist the lowering and raising, but the instructions are not clear.
