Matt or spray If you aren't worried about the cost or weight the product would add, which is better for reducing muffler drone and road noise, the matt material or this can spray? Also, will covering just the trunk area cut alot of the drone/road noise?

  • If either are applied at about the same thickness it would be about the same. This gets to the point of cost effectiveness. The spray is almost always more expensive, but is seamless and no cutting to fit is needed. If you think about your trunk this way, it's a open metal box so it amplifies any sound near it. The rear tires and exhaust are both in the box area. If you are able to get a good sound deadening in the trunk and the padding under the passenger compartment is good, a lot of the noises will be reduced.

Could this be used for speaker/audio vibrations? With the Mach 460 system in my mustang, the door panels tend to shake a bit and now that I plan to add 2 Kicker 12" L3's in the trunk with a custom fit box, all my paneling will definitely shake and rattle. If this would help the rattling, how would I use it? Like, what areas would be best and how would I apply it?

  • I hope you can read! Anyone reading this to you will need a bull horn. (JOKING!) I don't have that much in mine, but it's loud. The way I controlled my door panel rattle; using the spray, I masked off a sort of gasket on the door anywhere the panel touched. When it was almost dry I carefully took off the tape, a gasket! I also went to a hardware store and bought various rubber washers for any clip or screw that held the panel to the door. It may sound stupid and a lot of time, but IT WORKED! One question, do your neighbors like it. Mine don't.

Spray on other areas? I had this idea about spraying this under a replacement floor carpet. Good or bad idea?

  • Yes you can spray anywhere accept near exhaust or high heat. Rubberized undercoating does about the same thing. I did my whole trunk to cut down the Magnaflow Magnapacks ;)

    Seems to be a Gimmick.

For starters the content that comes out of this can will stain your product black. I dislike it for that product should be transparent. Anyways I sprayed the product in tight corner where the flat Boom Mat wouldn't fit. No difference to sound in my opinion. I will try it some more and will let my friend use on their vehicle.

    Boom Mat

This product covers very well but you will need at least 3 cans to do trunk area. Minor difference with road noise. It does make your sound system more crisp and reduce vibrations from a sub.

I am restoring my 2004 GT convertible with 13000 miles. Yes, OCD. I wanted a car that was completely Brand New to me, inside as the outside is pristine. I "gutted" the interior because let's face it, American Muscle Cars make great noise, but have tons of squeaks and rattles that can be bothersome. With that said, this stuff is a pretty great product. Great price, Ease of use in the tight spots and on seams, teamed with self adhesive sound barrier = GREAT !!!

    Boom Mat Works

I applied the spray to the trunk area to help deaden exhaust drone. It is really easy to apply and just took a few minutes. It covers any and all surfaces and gaps, etc. Best of all it works, it deadened road noise and drone. It works a lot better then the sheets because it covers any shape or gap.

About a month after I got my '10 v6 I got a muffler based on the fact that it was the loudest there was, it said if you like noise inside, this is for you. It's a flowmaster super 44 and i got it. Didnt have much money at the time so i only got one. I loved it for the first few months, now the drone is so annoying I cant take it. So i got this boom mat and its incredible! I sprayed it in the trunk under my spare and it makes a significant difference! ordering my second bottle now to see how much better it gets and find where else i can spray it! Still a little drone at 2500 RPM's but other than that its fantastic. Sprays on thick and even. Looks sweet as well. too bad no one will see it haha. Also I have 2 10' kickers, After spraying this stuff, the clarity is better, hits crisper and cleaner, and seems to hit and carry lower frequencies. This stuff is amazing.

    good stuff

This is good stuff. Works really good, just plan on buying about 3-5 cans to get the trunk but eliminates road noise and helps keep bass in.

One can isn't enough, and I don't want to buy another

I sprayed one can in my trunk, and used a package of the stick-on stuff under the rear seats and it didn't really seem to do anything for reducing road noise/drone. The car smelled awful for a week from the odor of the spray on Boom Mat. I plan on trying Rammmat later for doors and floor to hopefully accomplish more.

    it works pretty well

As the title stated it works pretty good, the only reason I have it 4 stars is because it took me 3 whole cans just for the trunk and under the back seat. I do have O/R h pipe and the exhaust dumps right before the axle so I wasn't expecting a miracle haha.

    Awesome product

I took a chance on this item when I was installing my new carpet. It came out thicker than I expected but works great. I purchased 2 cans but wish I had gotten 3 for better coverage.

    Good protection on your investment.

I used this to coat the trunk area. It helps with vibrations, with slight muffling, it just keeps the body panels from acting like a drum. It does smell a bit, so leave it sit for some time before spending a long time in the car.

    Pointless for exhaust

This has made no difference what so ever on deadening the sound of my exhaust. I just recently put a sub in and there is zero vibration, other than the license plate, that was fixed by putting in two bottom screws. So if you are purely looking to deaden the sound of your exhaust, than don't bother because it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference.

    some good stuff

one can was able to cover the front two fender wells , has a real nice texture to it , and isnt real bad about collecting dirt , it acts somewhat like automotive paint when it comes to dirt getting on it , and it works very well , you can tell just by tapping on it that it really deadens that tone , its not glossy or peally and dries very quickly , i would use it over mats , but mostly for weight reasons , and because it performs almost the same as a mat exept probably without the added insulation , but one can does not go very far , probably because it is very thick

Bought this awhile before it was available on AM but it's a quality product and works great, wanted to make sure my trunk wouldn't rattle when installing a sound system it worked great on my door panels and in my trunk. Will be buying plenty more for my floor pan when I buy new carpet.

Sprayed my trunk using one can, reduced squeaking from the sub-woofers, and added a solid "thump" to the closing of the trunk.

Gotta get that Boom Boom Boom

I used this product on three vehicles, two of them recently, a 04' Mustang Cobra and 01' Volvo s60 T5, I will explain the latter more as the application was extensive and result more rewarding. For the Volvo, having the vehicle its entire life I am very in tune with its changes. I removed the rusting factory exhaust exhaust and down pipe replacing it with a full 3" system. Having both subtle droning in a narrow band of the rpm and an overall increase in interior resonance I removed the entire exhaust system, 4 heat shields along the exhaust tunnel on the under body, spare tire and jack from the trunk well. I used a total of 3 cans, spraying both sides of the heat shields, the under body (area underneath the heat shields), the trunk well, and the muffler well area. The result removed the existing drone as well as lower the interior sound of the exhaust in the car while retaining the improved sound quality. The 04' Cobra received a coating to the spare tire well area only (I will post a picture with the spare/jack/fabric back in since there are enough pictures showing an empty well sprayed). The change was inaudible. The vehicle has a lot of noise supporting modifications including being a cammed stroker with a full off road exhaust system so I wasn't expecting a change, and will therefor continue application with a follow up in the future. I do have a third example for a 97' Cobra I owned years back having purchased boom mat from AM, but never did review. Important note, this car was naturally aspirated with higher compression, a lot of weight reduction, full exhaust (BBK 1 5/8 long tubes, BBK X pipe, flow master 40, shortened and dumped early underneath). I sprayed under the aftermarket front seats underneath the sound deadening insulation, entire rear seat area including floor, c pillars, seating area (under rear seat delete kit), and trunk (including spare tire well). The noise inside the car became very tolerable. The interior sound quality really improved and actually became very enjoyable too. I used a total of 4 cans. Application is simple and as an example 2 cans can generously cover the entire trunk interior. Shake the can often before and in between use. Some build up on the nozzle occurred a few times, just wipe, shake and test before continuing. It is all well explained on the can. If you start inverting the can, such as when I sprayed the under body of the Volvo along the exhaust tunnel, do so before the can gets down to about 1/3, otherwise the spray material is limited and it gets frustrating. Also, be mindful of higher temperatures approaching the header/manifold area. Header wraps, heat shielding and other high temp resistant material is recommended as this product is rated to 300*F.
