So if you own a '15 to '18 F150 with the 5 liter motor, you're looking for one of the most well-built, one of the coolest looking and close to the loudest possible exhaust systems available, you should be checking out the Borla Stinger S-Type dual exhaust system with these very cool black chrome tips in the same side exit configuration. Now, volume is what matters most, right? And I said that this is close to the loudest but it's not quite there. If you want the loudest possible setup, you should be looking at Borla ATAK. But let's face it, while it sounds really cool, that might be a bit too much for some. And a lot of the systems that we sell do provide a nice bump in volume, but they are kind of quiet. So I would say this is a nice kind of middle-of-the-road option. It gets a very healthy four outta five on my loudness meter. I would say this would be right on the limit of how loud you wanna go if you daily your truck. And, as you heard from those sound clips, it definitely wakes up that five liter motor. But I'm happy to say, from personal experience, there's actually not a lot of drone inside the cab. Other reason I really like the Stinger S-Type is because of how well-built it is. It's actually made out of 304 stainless from end to end, which is an upgrade over the factory grade 409 stainless. So it's safe to say this thing will not rust or corrode especially if you take your truck off-road or you see a lot of snow or rain. It's not something you'll have to worry about. Other reason I really like the Borla Stinger and really all Borla systems in general is because it is a pure bolt on application. All the piping is measured to your cabin bed length so there's no cutting required. You don't need any power tools to get this installed. You can actually do it at home in the driveway with a couple of hand tools. This shouldn't take you more than an hour or two, so Borla makes it really easy to make your truck sound good. I'd say you could probably get this done in an hour or two. So for that reason, I'm gonna give the install a very easy one out of three wrenches on my patented to difficulty meter. So if you like the way the Stinger S-Type looks, you like the sound and you like the quality, go ahead and stick around. I'm actually gonna walk you guys through this install step by step. To install your new cat-back, you'll need the following tools: a standard drive ratchet, a 13 millimeter socket, and a 15 millimeter socket. Optional but helpful tools: got a cordless impact, a swivel socket, a 10 millimeter socket, spray lubricant, and an exhaust hanger puller tool. All right. So before we install our Borla, obviously we have to remove our factory cat-back. It's pretty straightforward. We can remove it as one piece. First step is unbolting the clamp in front of the resonator. To do that, you'll need a 13 millimeter socket. And if you're using a power tool, it is a tight fit so you might wanna use a swivel. All right. Now that our factory cat-back is unbolted, we can loosen it from the rubber isolators. There are three hangers in total, one in front of the muffler, one directly behind it, and one further back on the tailpipe. Once you pull those three hangers, go ahead and let the exhaust rest on the axle and the crossmembers. Take your time. You can actually pull it out from the rear of the vehicle as one piece. Now, when you pull these out, it's helpful to have either a pry bar or an exhaust hanger puller tool as well as some spray lubricant to make it a little easier on yourself. All right. Now we have our factory cat-back removed. We can start installing our new system, but it's a good idea to mock it up first. That way you can see where everything is supposed to go, and more importantly, you guys can see some of the differences and some of the similarities between the two, some of the similarities that matter. You can see that this is measured for your cab and bed length. So again, there's no cutting required like I mentioned earlier. Other reason I really like Borla's system to this is they retain all the factory hangar locations, again, no fabrication require. You don't have to move anything around on your truck. It'll just sit right where the original system sat in the first place. That's where the similarities end. The big differences that I really like about this setup, you do get a bigger diameter inlet coming in to the muffler. It's three inches. That's where you're gonna get all that deeper tone in this exhaust. As you can see, the S-Type muffler is a hell of a lot smaller than the factory one, so that's where you get all that volume from. Now, exiting out the back here, we got two and a quarter inch piping and then you got these really cool four inch rolled black chrome tips. I really like these because they pay homage to the Ford Lightning. I'm a big fan of that truck. It gives it sort of a street rod look and feel. Other thing I really like about Borla systems, they are made out of 304 stainless compared to the factory 409. 409 will develop rust and corrosion. As you can see, our system has started to do so behind the resonator. 304 it's safe to say will last a lot better and a lot longer, you won't have to deal with any rusting or corrosion to that extent. So without further ado, let's go ahead and throw our new system on. So the first step of our install is putting on our resonator and our mid pipe. You're gonna be reusing the bolts that you loosened earlier. So you're gonna need a 13 millimeter socket to tighten these down later. However, for the meantime, we only wanna hand tighten these. We wanna keep this loose enough so that has some play in it. It's gonna make it easier when we go to fit the rest of the exhaust on. All right. With our mid-pipe loosely bolted on, we can install our extension pipe. Before we throw the extension pipe onto the mid pipe, make sure you have one of the large clamps on the end here, that way you can tighten down the flared end to the mid pipe. You're also gonna throw this hanger into that factory rubber isolator. So go ahead and spray that down, make it easy on yourself. All right. With our extension pipe in place, it's the same process for the muffler assembly. Go ahead and throw this hanger into that factory rubber isolator just in front of the axle. Go ahead and throw the large end of the muffler onto your extension pipe and make sure you have this other large clamp on top of it before you do so. All right. So the last step of our install after our muffler assembly is putting our tailpipe on. Now for lack of better phrasing, putting the tailpipe on to this assembly with this rubber isolator is a bit of a pain in the ass. We're gonna take it the easy way. We're actually gonna remove this rubber isolator from the frame using a 10 millimeter socket, then we're gonna throw our tailpipe onto the muffler and we're gonna refit that rubber isolator. It's a lot better than trying to fight with the system and bending everything all which way. All right. Now that we have that rubber isolator removed, we can easily throw our tailpipe on the end of our muffler assembly. Before you do that, make sure you have the last two clamps in the kit onto the ends of these pipes here. Once you've done that, go ahead and keep a hold on this so it doesn't fall off. Thread that rubber isolator on to the hanger over here and then tighten down those bolts that we just removed earlier. All right. Once you got your tailpipe and that rubber isolator hooked back up, last step is making sure everything fits nicely. And you can go ahead and tighten down all your clamps. You need a 15 millimeter socket to tighten all the clamps in the kit. And then back at the Y-pipe behind the crossmember, you'll need a 13 millimeter socket for those two original bolts that we pulled out earlier. So once you got all those clamps tightened down, that'll actually wrap up our install. And that also wraps up my review of the Borla Stinger S-Type dual exhaust system with the black chrome tips in the same side exit fitting your '15 through '18 5 liter powered F150. I'm Travis. Thanks for watching. And for all things F150, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
