So today we're talking about the dB Performance by Corsa three-inch single exhaust system in the factory side exit configuration. Now if you own a 2015 or newer F150 and you got the 5-liter motor under the hood, then you should be checking this exhaust out if you want one that's gonna be relatively mild and tame when you're just driving around on the streets providing a small bump in volume over the factory system but you also want an exhaust that's really gonna scream and amplify things when you actually get on the pedal and you're at wide open throttle. And I say that because of the way Corsa worked with dB Performance to design the very unique straight through muffler that's provided in this kit. So in order to understand the way this thing works we have to talk about mufflers a little bit. Normally when you have a straight through muffler like this one it has a large primary chamber around one or two flow tubes. Normally those flow tubes are perforated from the inlet to the outlet and that allows all that exhaust gas to expand inside the muffler and it provides some pretty consistent sound regardless of whether you're at idle or whether all the way at red line. That's not the case with this system. It's pretty cool the way it works actually. You have one primary chamber over that flow tube but instead of being a perforated flow tube it's actually a solid piece of metal with one cutout at the outlet and one cutout at the inlet. And this is what it does, when you're at low idle when you're just driving around and you don't have all those exhaust gases thumping out of the pipes, they're allowed to expand inside that chamber and that's what gives you that really deep and lopey idle and that really throaty exhaust sound when you're just driving around. However, once you actually mash on the pedal and you want to pump out some volume what happens is those exhaust gases actually gain a lot of velocity behind them so they don't expand inside of that chamber as much. That gives you more of a straight through sound when you're actually on the pedal. It's a pretty cool kind of dichotomy, if you will. You get really good volume with no drone inside the cab when you want it to be quiet, but when you want to show off and you're mashing on the pedal, boom, opens up, gives you tons of volume and tone. As far as how loud the system is going to be, I would give it a pretty healthy three out of five on my loudness meter and that's when you're at wide open throttle. When you're just driving around, I'd give it a softer two out of five on my loudness meter. Again a small bump in volume over that factory setup. It's a pretty cool design. Not a lot of systems feature a muffler like this and I just think it's something that you would really enjoy if you daily drive your truck but you also want to turn heads occasionally, right? Now as far as build quality is concerned, dB Performance definitely took their time as far as fitting this thing to the truck goes and let's face it, Corsa is one of the biggest names in the industry as far as build quality and as far as materials goes so you should expect to be getting a top tier system with this one, and that definitely is the case. The tailpipe is already welded with all the hangers on then so they line up pretty much perfectly. The muffler is obviously very well built, slips right into that factory mid-pipe, and they do provide all the necessary hardware to get this bolted on without any cutting, drilling, or permanent modification required. Now something that's really cool that I wanted to point out with this system is what it's actually made out of. Oftentimes systems that fall below the $1,000 price point are gonna be made with factory grade 409 stainless. But again because we're working with Corsa and we're working with dB Performance today they actually bumped up the quality here. This thing's made out of T439 stainless steel which is actually a variant of 409. It's got a couple of different materials in the alloy and basically it's designed specifically to prevent rust and corrosion in environments where you see a lot of extreme temperature changes. Obviously an exhaust system pretty much fits the bill there. And then they also use 304 stainless throughout this system which is more conventional but it's pretty much considered some of the best steel that you can buy on the market. This is all pretty impressive considering you're getting this system at around the $800 price point. Honestly, guys, a system that's going to provide this kind of volume with this kind of material is often going to come over the $1,000 price point so I think this is a pretty good steal. Now as far as the install goes, very easy stuff because we're reusing our factory mid-pipe and again there's no cutting required. So I'm gonna give the install a pretty modest two out of three wrenches on my patented difficulty meter and I wager it'll probably take you about two to three hours to get this system installed. Honestly, guys, the hardest part of this is gonna be getting that factory muffler and tailpipe off and that's just because of some of that rust and corrosion might have built up. All right. To install your new exhaust system you'll need a drive ratchet with a 13, 15 and 9/16 socket. It's very helpful to have an impact swivel socket if you're using an impact gun. And other optional but helpful tools include a dead blow mallet, some spray lubricant for your exhaust hangers, and a pry bar for your muffler. Okay. So once you got your tools gathered you're gonna need to grab that 15-millimeter deep socket and if you're using a power tool like me it's very helpful to have an impact swivel. We're gonna be working up here next to the driveshaft just in front of the muffler. We have to separate our muffler and tailpipe assembly as one piece from our mid-pipe. Now the band clamp securing those two things together is actually facing upward towards the top of the truck. So take your time with this one, you might need to get a breaker bar in there. So it's definitely helpful to have something like some PB B'laster, maybe some heat. Okay. Once you've got that band clamp separated it's time to lube up all of our exhaust hangers securing our tailpipe and muffler assembly to the truck. What we're gonna do, we're gonna spray them all up, let him soak for a minute, get them freed up a little bit, then we're actually gonna push the muffler with the tailpipe back towards the rear of the truck as one piece. That's gonna separate it from our mid-pipe, we can drop it down, and we can pull it out from underneath. All right. So we have all those hangers sprayed down, we let them soak for a minute, now comes the fun part and that's putting some good old muscle on this thing. What you're going to need to do is grab a pry bar or a dead blow mallet and you're going to need to smack that muffler or get some leverage on it and separate it from that mid-pipe. Obviously there's going to be some rust and corrosion in there so take your time with this, definitely spray it down as needed, and you're really gonna want a friend to help you with this. I got my buddy Adam here today to help me. He's gonna support that muffler while I separate it from the mid-pipe. Then we can drop it down and get it out from underneath. Okay. Factory exhaust is finally removed. Good for you because it was probably a little bit of a pain in the ass, right? So we're over here in comparison corner, if you will. And I wanted to put these two next to each other that way you guys can just get an idea of how crazy big the new muffler is on this system. And in the world of aftermarket exhaust, bigger does not mean quieter. In fact the reason I like this system, the reason it gives such a deep tone is because we're stepping up from our factory diameter tubing to three-inch diameter before we enter the muffler. That's going to provide that deeper tone. Then the muffler does all sorts of cool magic here. This is pretty much a straight through design. It's got one solid three-inch tube through it but there's two large perforations on either side, one towards the inlet and one towards the outlet. What happens is some of that exhaust gas actually gets trapped inside the muffler where it's allowed to expand. That creates a little bit of resonance, it creates a really crazy deep tone, then it gets shot back up out the tailpipe. That's where you're getting that awesome growl and that really lopey idle from. So again even though the muffler is bigger, don't let it fool you, it's not gonna be a super quiet system by any means. Other things that are nice to point out on this system is we're keeping all of our factory hanger locations and because it's factory exit configuration you don't have to install any new rubber isolators or anything like that. I also like the fact that this system keeps the tailpipe as one piece, just makes the install a lot simpler. And then obviously it goes without saying, Ford unfortunately left us without a nice fancy exhaust tip on there so they were nice enough to throw one in there for us. That's a really cool polished stainless steel tip right there, it's got a slight brush finish on it. Looks really textured, looks really nice. They also embossed the dB Performance Corsa logo on there and it measures four inches in diameter. So it's going to be coming out of the truck a good amount. It'll definitely look good when you're rolling around. And on the note of build quality, this entire system is actually made out of 409 stainless. Our factory setup is also made out of 409 stainless and you can see it lives up pretty well to the elements. We are out here on the East Coast, we do take our trucks off-road, we do put them through snow and rain, and the system's living just fine. So the new system you won't have to worry about any pinhole leaks or excessive rust. So now all that stuff is out of the way, let's go ahead and grab our muffler, we're gonna throw it on our factory mid-pipe. I'll show you how to get the tailpipe on there and we should be good to go. All right. So when you go to throw the muffler on you want to spray down that rubber isolator, make it easy to get that hanger in there, and there might be some surface rust or corrosion on the inside of the mid-pipe so it's also helpful to spray that down that way you get the slip fit connection in there nicely. To help you along you might want to grab that death blow mallet, very gently tap on the end of it, you don't want to bang it up too much. Okay. Now our muffler is secure we can throw our tailpipe on. You want to make sure you spray down both of those rubber isolators for your exhaust hangers, make it a lot easier to slide those in. And in order to secure the tailpipe to the muffler you'll need this band clamp in the kit. You'll need a 9/16 deep socket to tighten those down. All right. Now to throw in your exhaust tip you'll need that same 9/16 deep socket. So once you got that exhaust tip zipped down do yourself a favor, double check all your connections and double check your clearance because the tailpipe does have a little bit of a squeeze here next to this little heat shield for your spare tire. But that should wrap up the install and that also wraps up my review of the dB Performance by Corsa single exhaust system in the factory side exit configuration fitting your 2015 or newer five-liter powered F150. I'm Travis. Thanks for watching. And for all things F150, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.

Unrestricted Muffler. A straight through muffler can give your truck so much more than a factory muffler can. That is why the Corsa db. Performance 3-Inch Cat-Back Exhaust can be so much better for your trucks sound quality. Instead of muffling the sound entirely, it filters sound so you have an aggressive growl when you rev your engine.

Increased Strength. The Corsa db. Performance 3-Inch Cat-Back Exhaust System is a system that offers power as well as vanity. With exhaust flowing freely among 3-inch steel tubing and a straight through muffler, you can expect better performance than a factory choice. The strongest changes will be noticed in the forms of increased horsepower, increased torque, and better fuel efficiency.

Stainless Steel Structure. The use of stainless steel in this system makes it incredibly durable. This industrial grade metal offers many advantages. The most obvious is that it is hard to break or damage. Even more important in an exhaust system, though, is that it is resistant to corrosion as well - even with daily contact with exhaust fumes.

Direct Replacement. When you install the Corsa db. Performance 3-Inch Cat-Back Exhaust System, you simply apply it as a direct OE replacement. This makes installation fast and simple as it doesn't require any cutting or welding. Everything you need - except a few basic hand tools - are included.
