Does this Axleback system and the Borla ATAK Axleback have a similar volume or is one significantly louder than the other?

    • This exhaust and the Borla ATAK exhaust will have similar sounds as mentioned with our loudness meter on the axle-back exhaust page. However in direct comparison, the ATAK exhaust will be slightly louder as the muffler chamber is smaller in size and shape than that of the FR500S axle-back exhaust.

Can these be modified to fit a 2011 GT?

    • This axle-back exhaust is desinged to fit the 2005-2009 Mustang GT models only and unfortunately will not work with the 2010 and up models.

This is a good price for this exhaust. Can you confirm that this item is an actual Ford factory part which would normally be available from a Ford dealer or is it an aftermarket reproduction?

    • This Ford Performance FR500S Axle-Back Exhaust (05-09 GT, GT500) is a genuine Ford Performance part. The MPN M-5230-S listed below item number stands for Manufacturer's Part Number and can be cross referenced to Ford Performance's website as well.

Does this Axelback had embossed the Ford Racing Logo? Is there a E Number for check the legality in Europe

    • This part does meet the 95 decibel drive-by noise standards for aftermarket exhaust systems when installed on stock applications. We can only speak for United States regulations however.

How much louder are these than stock? Looking for a more aggressive sound than stock but do not want something obnoxious.

    • The Ford Performance FR500 Exhaust has a very nice and throaty sound that easily beats the original factory exhaust without having to settle for an obnoxious option. This will have a nice muscle car sound when accelerating and a nice quite sound when driving at highway speeds.

The Best Sounding Exhaust on the Market

I purchased my 2008 GT with a set of Flowmasters already installed. They sounded nice and burbly, but the drone was terrible when cruising, just absolutely awful to commute with. The FR500S axle-backs have completely transformed my car. There's absolutely no drone and they're downright civilized when cruising around, but when you open the taps they scream louder than the Flowmasters ever did. I've always been in love with road racing Mustangs from the 60s and very early 70s, and that's exactly what my car sounds like now when on the power. Raw and raucous, with pops and crackles on the overrun. This was the best investment I've made for the car to date.

      How your Mustang should sound!

The FR500S Axle Back is one of the first modifications I've done to an otherwise stock car so far, and what a difference! The new exhaust tone is impressive, with a low, trans-am race car like rumble at lower RPMs that would make you think your car has cams. Full throttle is another experience entirely, and the FR500S mufflers come alive with a great, aggressive bark Cruising, they are barely audible at highway speeds and make for a pleasant ride. On deceleration, they make great popping and burbles. As others have stated, there is NO DRONE through any RPM, which was the main attraction for me to this set-up. They are a quick afternoon bolt-on to really liven the experience of driving your Mustang. The longest part of the install was using a box wrench to get the hanger bolt above the factory mufflers on both sides. Once the factory mufflers are off, the FR500S mufflers are routed perfectly around the bolts to be able to use a socket set or power tools. The original packaging from Ford left a lot to be desired, and my axle-backs were boxed with no other packing materials then some bubble wrap around the tips. The box was tattered when it arrived, so be sure to inspect carefully for any damage. Additionally, I'll knock a star on fit and finish because of the weld splatter on the mufflers. It could be cleaner. Overall, the FR500S axle-back has taught me you get what you pay for: OEM quality, great aftermarket tone and no drone! These are a definite must have!

WOW! Just what I was looking for... FINALLY!

So many people say they should have bought these years ago. I couldn't agree more! I have a 2007 Mustang GT 5 speed with 3.55 gears and the Ford Racing cold air intake and tune. Everything else is stock. I wanted louder exhaust but still be able to daily drive with kids and my wife. I tried Flowmasters with the Super 44's and could not handle the drone. Sound quality was not the best. Also fit and finish was poor. Went back to stock mufflers and then came across some youtube videos of these. I cannot believe first how well they fit. No adjustment needed. Tips look great! But then the sound... The sound is AMAZING! Start up is exciting every time. Under normal driving, you hear the growl but it isn't too loud. Just sounds like you have something without screaming it. And will make you smile every time. My favorite may be accelerating part throttle to about 3000rpm then hit the clutch and slowly shift so I can hear the exhaust gurgle down to a lower rpm. When you get on it, these mufflers open up! Sounds like a race car and will get people turning their heads! To me it is the absolute best; loud when you want it loud. Quality sounding rumble for normal driving and NO DRONE. I agree with others when they say it may actually be quieter in the car at 60mph cruising. As soon as you hit the gas, you hear them but cruising is silent. About me so you understand my viewpoint: I am 37 years old. I have a 68 Charger with built 383 with dual 3" and Magnaflows. Its loud all the time. Sounds great but definitely too loud for daily driving. I also have an 82 Cutlass with a 350 crate engine breathing through dual 2.5" and hooker mufflers. This is very loud and raspy all the time. Again fun for me to take out on the weekends but not so family friendly. The FR500S mufflers on the Mustang get loud similar to the others but are much easier on the ears for normal cruising. They seem like they have an active dampening system like new mustangs and others are coming with from factory. They really are amazing. The sound just makes it all worth while. I cannot wait to drive the car just to hear the exhaust. I have about 1000 miles in the exhaust and its still just as exciting as the first time I started it with the new mufflers. Watch video's on youtube. There are plenty. Then go ahead and make the purchase! Don't wait like I did.

      Droneless with Great Bite

I've got a 2008 v6. This is, by FAR, the best muffler you can get for one. I've been through others, SLP etc, and all had drone and didn't achieve the legit, deep growl I wanted through the whole rpm range. You'll have to convert to duals for these, but it's worth it. I paired it with a MAC prochamber and catback piping, which did not line up well at all with it. It may be because it's a 6, it may be better with ford performance dual conversion, who knows. But the sound is insane. -No drone -Burble at idle -Quietish at cruising rpm, screams at WOT -High Quality It's not exactly cheap, but if you want to do your car right it's the right buy.

      Very disappointed

After reading tons of reviews I decided on to get the Fr500s axel backs but they weren’t what I expected. The pretty much sound stock and are not as aggressive as they are advertised. My sisters v6 with magnaflows sounds louder than my v8. I’m very disappointed in AM for saying that these are some of the most aggressive ones available. Wish I could return or exchange them

This should have been my first mod !

I fell in love with the car again. I'm kicking myself for waiting this long. Now it sounds like a Mustang ! I find myself downshifting constantly just to hear that awesome sound. Its loud when you want it to be and totally tame (almost stock-like) when just cruising. No drone ! And I got a little of my snap, crackle, pop back again which I lost after the bama tune. You can't go wrong with these. It is louder than stock (obviously) and I was worried about early morning start ups but its fine.

      Ford performance exhaust

These axle back mufflers sound really good but a warning to you if you have an off road X pipe and want to quiet some of the rasp down these mufflers do not do very well for that I originally had magna flow muffler delete pipes on and that was totally insane for loudness these mufflers quieted it down a little bit but not as much as I was hoping for I just have to live with my neighbors being irritated with me LOL but overall a good product fit Well and sounds good

      That's the sound I wanted

My 2008 GT has had a set of FlowMaster Thunders since about the 10K mark. They were annoyingly loud when traveling the highways as we do. I even added DynaMat to the entire interior with little quieting. Now at 76K, I wanted a throatier sound with no drone. After much research, I selected the FR500S, and I couldn't be happier. Loud when I accelerate, and quiet when cruising. I really don't like seeing the mufflers so I always paint them with high temp black paint. These took some cleaning before painting, as they do not come in a clean finished appearance. Ford needs to re-think their packaging, as with no noticeable damage to the box, the one muffler dented and scratched the chrome tip of the other muffler, as bubble wrap does not stop metal from damaging metal. Since I have experience with 5th Gen Mustang exhaust installation the installation was straight forward, but for some reason on my Mustang I cannot get the two exhaust tips level. It may require loosening the connections between the high flow cats and the x-pipe. I try that the next time I get her on the lift.

      Awesome!!

Very easy to install. Great look. The sound with these is unbelievable! This is the way all V8 Mustang's should sound! I couldn't be happier! One of the best moves I've made with mods. Pricey but totally worth it! Quiet at idle but when you're dropping the hammer you and everybody else knows it! And very tolerable in 5th gear on the highway.

      Worth the price

Nice upgrade over stock. Easy installation with basic tools. Didn't even have to jack the car up. Loud when you want them to be and quiet when you don't. Zero highway drone. A bit pricey but worth it for the look and sound. I've had them on for a little over a thousand miles and have no complaints. 10/10 would buy again.

      Great mix of sound!

When I was 17, in1969, I cruised around in a 1967 327-ci Chevy Impala Super Sport; my pals drove a 440-ci Dodge Coronet R/T, and a 383-ci Dodge Charger. We thought we were pretty tough stuff . This set-up on my 2008 Mustang GT recalls the very best of those period muscle cars: throaty rumble, mellow, fluted sound when accelerating lightly, and raucous, righteous roar when gettin’ it. And no annoying drone in cruising. It’s perfect. I couldn’t be happier. FYI: My buddy with a 2003 Mustang GT with cherry bombs is envious and says it sounds better, with less drone, than his friend’s GT with Dynaflow.

      FR500s on 2009 GT500

I got this installed at a nearby shop for $125.00. Took an hour. People in the shop waiting area heard it start up before I did and they wouldn't stop complimenting the sound. Absolutely amazing sound, screams when you step on it, perfect gurgle idle, zero drone. Also I felt an increase in throttle response by letting her breathe. 100 would recommend.

Great, but loud with LT's and no cats

These are great, but very loud with long tube headers and an off road H-pipe. I think I like them enough that I'm willing to give up the LT's to reduce the loudness and keep these! I'll try to update my response afterwards.
