Ask a Question

Boost How much would I be able to safely push through a gt40x crate engine? I believe it's a boss block with all forged internals. What cam do you recommend with this kit and what size fuel injectors and pump. How easy would you say it is for someone who has never installed a turbo? I am highly considering this kit in a few months. Thank you for your time.

  • First you need to be sure of what you already have. I would call whomever sold you the engine and find out exactly what is indeed inside as far as the rotating assembly and block, etc.. If you can get that information then your next question is going to be, how do you intend to use the engine. Are you going to use it as a daily driver or a daily driver and weekend warrior at the drag strips or just as a racing engine for drag racing or autocross, etc.? It sounds to me like you might have a motor from Ford Motorsports that usually comes with a pick of 1-5 different camshafts that Ford recommends to be used with that motor and heads and depending on what it's going to be used for there are 5 cam selections unless you go with a different Camshaft Company. Those cams from Ford are designed to work with a crate 302+ c.i. engine with the GT40x heads are listed on Ford Motorsports, and in Summit Racing's catalog in the back in the Mustang section, plus on their site but, can be purchased through American Muscle with a part number for a very competitive price, if not cheaper. They are commonly called either the B303, E303, F303, X303, and Z303 camshafts. I know that the B303 is said to work well with boost says Ford but again it all comes down to what your trying to accomplish here. As far as fuel pumps go you can't go wrong with the 255LPH size if your running a stock fuel tank that should feed your motor with plenty of fuel even with the Turbo added now or later and a fuel injector size of at least 36 lb./hr. to a 48 lb./hr.+ injector with fuel rails should work with your motor and the turbo. After you get all of your info on the parts you have and take the car to a tuner if their a reputable one then they should know how much psi/boost you can run safely with what ever type of fuel you will be running. Lastly a Turbo kit isn't for the average gear head to install, they are very complex systems and just one error and you will blow that motor apart, and check with American Muscle to see what is included in the Turbo Kit because it may have injectors and a fuel pump in it already. Good luck with your project!

Would this work with an 85 gt 302 with an edelbrock carb and an edelbrock performer intake manifold

  • The Hellion Single Turbo is designed specifically for EFI applications, and would not work on earlier carbureted models. Additionally using a turbo on a carbureted application will require the use of a blow through carb rather than a draw through like which is used in naturally aspirated applications.

Does this work on a full stock 3.8L v6? It is a 1986 Ford Mustang 2 door hatchback lx.

  • No. This Hellion Single Turbo is specifically designed to fit the 87-93 models with the 5.0L engine.

Would 10:7.1 compression be too much to be using a turbo with or would I be better going to a supercharger with that kind of compression? Dart 363, afr 58cc 195s weekend car with couple trips to the track. Thanks

  • There are a lot more factors to take into consideration to fully answer this question but a quick answer at that compression the Hellion Single Turbo - Tuner Kit would work.

Will I need bigger injectors and fuel pump? I currently have stock block with a Ford E-cam, 1.6 roller rockers, Edlebrock Performer heads and Intake. A 75mm throttle body and19lb injectors. What kind of horsepower should I be expecting with my setup?

  • The fuel pump and injectors required for this kit would ultimately depend on the amount of power you are looking to produce with this kit. Additionally, total power yields will vary as each custom tune is different, so we would encourage that you speak to your custom tuner for those specific details and estimates.

Can I put this on a completely stock motor and upgrade things later.?

  • This Hellion Single Turbo is a tuner kit, and may be installed with the options of your choice, as it does not come with a few components. If you plan to install this on a stock motor, it can certainly be done, and we would recommend running lower boost levels for a stock block.
